It's quite the exception to see a football player who can even squat 600 (double bodyweight for some of them). Most of them are just huge freaks of nature. Only the real go getters actually hit the weights hard and properly. Realistically all of them should be putting up MASSIVE numbers in the weight room but you usually only see their bench and 40 times.

I go to a D3 school and our S&C coach has a Squat + bench + power clean based program, and we dominate almost every school in our division so you have a point there

Yeah we had one three year span at my old high school with the same strength coach who just made all the linemen lift until we had five guys with 500 pound squats + deadlifts and 300 pound bench + power cleans. They fucking demolished everyone. Don't think they've had a winning season since lols.

Every player I've met from Syracuse could squat minimum 500, and we're pretty awful at football. They don't squat often though, AFAIK. Maybe once a week.

Yesterday Snatch 45kg (PR) Today C&J up to 80, both shoulder hurt so much I had to stop. At least the pain finally forced me to jerk properly and not use arm strength. FS: 120kgx2x5 (PR)
Edit: Go figure, a powerlifter whose weak point are his shoulders :p

I graduated from there in May, but I still only live about 40 minutes away.
What's the internship?

Aww sad day guess I won't meet any TLHF people then
Chemistry research experience for undergraduates (essentially doing research with a faculty member to get a feel for what grad school there would be like)

I don't know yet, depends on whether or not I'm accepted (probably won't really know till March) and who exactly accepts me
If i do end up there, are there good places nearby for training in Weightlifting? (also how're the campus facilities?)
|
If you're jut going to be there for the summer, the campus facilities are adequate, even if they're not nice by any means. There's certainly not enough equipment to go around during the year, but you won't have that issue over the summer. There is a platform and a set of bumpers in the archbold weightroom, it's usually being used for deadlifts though so regardless of them buying decent bars I can't speak about the current quality of it.
As far as places to lift off campus, if you have a car there are 4 crossfits (syracuse, salt city, 315, and dewitt, listed in order of quality imo) within 15 minutes drive of campus, as well as a gold's gym, so you should be able to find whatever you're looking for. I never tried to work out any kind of "just weightlifting/open gym time" deal with any of the crossfits, so I don't know if they'd go for it. If you don't have a car, then only Crossfit Syracuse is within biking distance (~5 miles iirc?)
I've got some friends who are recent chem graduates, and I was bio, so if you've got any questions about the department or about campus in particular drop me a PM =)

Sweet, thanks! Not a done deal yet but I'll drop you a line if anything comes from it, thanks!

A 5 mile bike ride after a crossfit session is probably not something you want to do

Which is fine, since he asked about weightlifting, not crossfit.
