Ship out everything for picks, assets and hope. The problem with Dallas is that both years there was pretty much nothing to draw FAs other than Dirk. Both seasons teams who also wanted him had better pieces around him. Signing FAs does work, and could work for Dallas, but they need to have pieces in place first.

They literally signed a whole team, except Dirk, Marion, and Carter, for a single year. And now if they don't land another superstar they'll probably build another makeshift team to try the 2014 FA sweepstakes.

I know in one random article, it cited one of Dwight's hesitations about the Rockets were the style as well. And what happens to Asik? If I were the Rockets I would be. Morey probably going to try to shop Asik (and maybe Lin soon) at this point, although he said in a Q&A he'd rather keep Asik as a slightly overpaid backup so that they have amazing defense all 48 minutes.

Only thing I can think of is if there's a guard that can do more off the ball than Lin to allow Harden to handle almost every possession, but idk who they can get who fits that. Looking forward to booing the rockets next season! Problem with Lin is that he is probably the 3rd, or even 4th scoring option (behind Parsons) at this point. If the Rockets also land Josh Smith Lin would hardly be getting any looks. Lin is a ball dominating point guard who excels at the P&R and slashing, unfortunately James Harden is the same type of player and much better. What happened last season was that Lin was spotting up a lot more than he did in NY and that was a real issue for him because he doesn't have a reliable jump shop. If he can't develop one then I see no reason for the Rockets to keep him.

Rockets also drafted a really good shooting PG in Isaiah Canaan who could be their back up or 3rd string. A great shooting PG is ideal more so than a high assist guy. I expect the Rockets will still run, but Dwight will significantly improve their half court game. Also hack-a-Dwight with how many fouls Harden draws will result in getting in the bonus early most games. Only problem with Josh Smith is that he also is a poor free throw shooter.
