During his early years, he was young, and before Guardiola, the team was a mess. Look at Iniesta, are you contesting that he would not fit in another team? I highly doubt it, and Iniesta before Guardiola wasn't even a starting player in Barcelona. Look at what he became... Maturity means a higher tactical level as well as better decision making. I agree though that Xavi needs a certain system to shine. The same system Pirlo shines in: 1 or 2 purely defensive players around him (Gattuso, Busquets) so he has space and doesn't need to waste energy on getting the ball back for your team. Actually Iniesta was well in the first team before Guardiola. Iniesta is also significantly younger than Xavi and didnt spend years in limbo. He is infact still young and a very different player to Xavi. There is no suggestion that Iniesta wouldnt have become as good as he is before Guardiola, Again what you are doing is conjecture. You cant make the same arguements for Messi and such because that would be just guessing. You have half a decade and more of footage of Xavi being just above average and nothing special. Big difference.

Between Xavi's career start and the arrival of Guardiola, Barcelona have had maybe 2-3 years (out of 9) of great play, which was the 2 years and a half where Rijkaard built a really strong team. Before that and after that, the team was far far far from the level at which it is now you can't even compare... If the teammates don't work for you, when you are a pure teamplayet like Xavi, you're screwed. When he has players around him doing the dirty work he shines, when they don't give a crap, well Xavi ain't Busquets, he's not gonna tackle everybody.. Your making my point for me. Im not hitting on anything, fact is he requires his setup to be as good as he is. And there is nothing wrong with that. But he still requires it. Sure its a team sport and I have no point said that Xavi is not one of the greatest ever. This is why people call fanboy. Your making excuses for criticism that isnt even all that meaningful. All of this is irrelevant and stemming from me saying I'd rather have Yaya Toure in the team of the year. There is no need to get horny over Xavi just because I feel like Yaya Toure was a more valuable player over the course of the year than him or Xabi Alonso and frankly he was. Xabi Alonso is not as good a player as Xavi to me, but hes certainly more versatile and has excelled in various setups. Thats a big deal whether you like it or not. And judging by how valuable you were to a major league winner I feel like Yaya shouldve gotten some plaudits. Thats all. No need to make it anything bigger than it is.

In his first year you could already tell he was gonna be big - just like Messi - and he outperformed Guardiola in his very same field spot. When he played with Van Gaal he was very good but having Kluivert (and worse guys) as the main scorerers is way different than having Eto'o, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho or Messi.

He would work in any team that has tactically devoted teamplayers like Juventus, MU, hell he would even work in Real Madrid if they had a slightly more controlled playstyle. No I didnt say he wouldnt work. I said he wouldnt be as good. And he was just above average and give me a fucking break Kluivert and the team Van Gaal had already was pretty good. Its just Van Gaal has a special ability to fuck his clubs up like Mou around the time hes leaving. No one would be creaming their pants if Xavi was playing in a Van Gaal team. No one. He would just be a great player. Not one of the greatest*. Big difference. He wasnt particularly valuable to Rikjaards team either. I dont know what you guys were watching but he was just a good solid spanish playmaker to have. I bet even Guily got more starts than him during 05-06. (then again i think he was injured)

He would almost certainly walk into most teams in the world, and great ones at that. His fitness level, at age 32, is still top-notch, as is his passing (as you mentioned), ball control, pressing, dribbling, and decision making. His pace might be lacking, but he has a good turn of speed which is pretty much all you need as a playmaker, and he also makes well-timed tackles more often than not. He has proved that he can get forward and score goals too, but his duty as a deep lying playmaker rarely let's him do so. People tend to get too hung up on one aspect of a player, which is deemed his/her best. Xavi is about so much more than just passing, even past his peak. His lack of a physical presence is a downside, but it's easily compensated by everything else The bolded statement just proves my point. What other position on the pitch would you put Xavi in, if not for his current position? He's short, lacks pace (as you mentioned) and has no physical presence to speak off. Obviously he has more skills than just his passing ability, but it's the ability that makes him the playmaker. Guys like Yaya Touré and Gerrard can and have been played in far more positions than Xavi could ever realistically play in.

Carling Cup Semi Final 1st Leg Bradford 3-1 Aston Villa Full Time Want to add, the way "away" goals work in this cup competition is that, if the aggregate score is a tie at the end of the 2nd leg, then it goes to extra time. If after extra time it is still a tie, before it goes to penalties it will add in "away goals" rule. So if Villa win 2-0 at home it will go to extra time, if after 120minutes at Villa Park it is still 2-0 Villa, they will go through on away goals. Bradford are in League One (aka division 3)

After reading this you should check who acted captain for portugal in their last games, for at least 1 year. Then see who appeared as captain at the ballon d'or vote. As a final hint I'll say that one can not vote for oneself and that national teams' captains can vote. So, can you accept that cr7 is a dbag? xD
