He wasn't a starter at Barça. I think either Xabi Alonso or Busquets are fine picks for that position. As for the defence, I guess better options could be chosen there, but it's not like other players are infinitely better.. the only player I really disagree with is Marcelo. Oh and yayyy Messi <3 | ||

He should have gotten Alonso's spot. The defenders chosen are just retarded as well. There's plenty who are more deserving than fucking Marcelo and Dani Alves. Ramos is kinda questionable as well. | ||

Oh and yayyy Messi <3 Well team of the year to my understanding is a performance based award. Yes Yaya Toure was not the player he is at Barca. So what ? He still carried a team to winning a league. The award isnt for perceived best players. And frankly hes won more games for his team that won a major league than Xavi has. That should count for alot more. + Show Spoiler [ minor digression] + Secondly lets be real as much as I love the way Barca play Xavi as a player would be a useless relic in other teams. He is not as versatile as Yaya Toure. He works in a system so that criticisim will always play a role now. History probably wont remember that but whatever. Xavi was around for years. And I mean years so was Puyol) and no one gave a shit about them. Puyol couldnt start ahead of the likes of Patrick Anderson despite being in the team for years and Xavi was just a regular starter during Rikjaard and pre Rikjaard, he understudied for Pep, who in his later years particularly wasnt that great either (How good he was before that I dont know I havent seen it). As for Xabi Alonso, meh theres tons of players who played better than him over the year. You could take Schweinsteiger in there pretty easy, even Ozil or Ribery. Lahm got jipped hard too. Pique as good as he has been this season was god aweful for the early part of 2012 till the Euros really. He wasnt sharp, lacked his usual anticipation and got injured alot. You could put a John Terry and Lahm in that defense no probs. Frankly the problem is that these awards cater to major international events to much when there is one. Thats basically the kicker. You would have seen a ton of Germans in there if they had won EC. Maybe even Pirlo for that matter if it were Italy. Thats why its such a joke and its sad because its players, coaches and media reps who pick it so its like they dont even bother to think about it and these things can be meaningful. No matter what players say they do still care and its nice to be noticed and lauded even if its just a little bit | ||
