No one really could have argued Christiano not deserving it. But its the same with Messi. In the end this voting procedure is not optimal because how many do you think voted Messi instead of CR9 not because of skills, achievements but because they like him more than CR9.

I think the majority voted for him because they think Messi objectively had a better year than Ronaldo. Remember, these are professional players, coaches, and journalists. While some bias creeping into their decision making is inevitable, most would also vote for the player they think was the best. As I keep saying to Ronaldo fans, if he had won the Champions League as well as La Liga, it would be a different story. Even Messi not outshining him, individually, by so much would've made it a lot closer, or perhaps made him the favourite. As it is, as impressive as Ronaldo winning La Liga with Real Madrid was, it just wasn't enough to make people overlook the ridiculous things Messi did.

Knowing that they will be publicised afterwards must surely influence the voters - mainly in favour of fellow countrymen and current/former teammates. Very good point actually, should be anonymous. Never thought about it before. There will still be bias, but maybe a little bit less if it is anonymous.

Pretty much the best football report i have read on Sky Sports in a long time, sums up everything you need to know about Lampard and Chelsea in their attempt to change the club, and in Lampards case, move the legend on.

In relatively smaller leagues with money at stake, to great extent thats probably true. But we dont care about those so at the highest level it doesnt matter. I personally couldnt give a shit about the developement of the game in another country being hindered or stunted because of stuff like this. Maybe I should but I dont. Just want to watch the game.

Chelsea 0-2 Swansea Full Time Chelsea dominate the first half, probably the best passing they have done all season. Ivanovic gets the ball from the keeper just outside the box, looks up way to early, loses the ball. Mich gets it, GOAL Michu finishes well. Chelsea 40minutes of hard work down the drain Chelsea pretty much do the same as they did in the first half. Torres didn't do anything, we couldn't break the Swansea bus down. Ba comes on with 10 minutes to go, has 3 great chances. Ivanovic gets the ball again, blindly plays a pass back, Graham runs in, 1 on 1, knocks it past the keeper, slides it in. Chelsea 0-2 down, 80% overall possesion and we have a mountain to climb. Thanks to our own defender. To top it off Ba scores a great goal in the 91st minute, only for it to be ruled "offside" when he was clearly onside
