On another note: The World Weightlifting Championship is on right now. Really amazing to watch these guy/girls throw such heavy weights around.
It's pretty sweet since its at disney world in paris! haha Which classes did you watch? I only watched bits and pieces.
But here is my teammate breaking the American record snatch in the 58kg weightclass! Zelyx Rivera!

So that was a great thing to do after a gym session when i'm sick. I playex terribly, but at least i will sleep tonight.
Haha yeah, mens rugby is a whole new game. The level of play is so much better though, you can learn A LOT.
They couls have just run a pick and go every play, for the firat half of the practice they were picking up three or cour meters just by diving into a defender and pushing him back. Then their forwards got angry because wewerent rucking hard enough, because the scrums were unopposed, and because (even though it was grab and hold) no one was hitting enough on the tackles.
Learned a LOT about mauling and lineouts though, learned how our defence is really supposed to work, and got a few great tips on how to play flanker properly.
Still cant get the body position for lock down - but i'm not really a lock (yet) anyway.
Yeah i always feel like i'm an idiot when i try to play forward because i have no idea on positioning in scrums and line outs. I just run and hit people :D Finally made a rugby thread :D
What's the best way to recover your lower back? Mine hurts if I try to bend forward (opposite of arching the back). The pain and general weakness interferes with my squats & DL quite a bit so I decided to deload. Not sure what else I can do except foam roll, eat, and sleep. Should I skip squat/DL or make it really light until my back doesn't hurt anymore?

train up your deep core muscles - transverse abdominals and multifidus. if they are strong and you can activate them at will it will take some of the load off your long spine extensors etc during the day and hopefully allow you to recover better.
personally i would drop the deadlifts while you are hurting, maybe try some front squats (more upright posture) to keep the leg strength up while you recover?
jump on youtube and look up some exercises by Dr stuart mcgill. I believe he is a fairly well known lumbar spine rehab expert
FUCK. squats today hurt the small of my back today(only alittle nothing srs). pissed!!! im so close to squatting BW and I dont want to deload for form issues but i also dont want to hurt myself.
on the bright side deadlifts felt AWESOME today. my body felt so pumped after doing them. it was like a running high.
think im gonna take a 3day rest since Im busy friday anyways. hope Ill feel better saturday.

is lower back pain normal from doing squats? I feel I only ever get it when I struggle a lot during the last rep or two and round my back by accident.
Guys, there's a difference between pain and injury. Pain don't hurt and you power through it and become a better man because of it. Injury means you can't workout/do normal things and need to rehab to recover.
sometimes there is a difference between pain and injury. It takes experience to know when you have pushed your body too far and 'gutting it out' will not help.
as a very loose rule of thumb, if you feel pain very soon after a lift (within a few hours) you have quite likely pushed beyond your boundaries.
if you are sore a day or more afterwards, often this is not such a big deal and to be expected (DOMS etc)
pain is a tricky science. usually it is a warning of perceived tissue damage.

Eat more, rest more, sleep more. Stretches and massages will help.
Also, try taking a week off. You don't gain muscles by lifting more iron, you gain it through resting. If you somehow hurt yourself, it's weeks of recovery we are talking about.
Today I went for a 1 rep max with both squats and bench. Finally have some videos for you guys.
200kg x 1
felt easy so I went for
210kg x 1
Got that rep alright went for
220kg x 1 and failed that rep I was pretty tired after those other 2 lifts so maybe I'll try it again soon.
Its hard to see depth from that angle but if you look at the top right of the video you can see a reflection in the mirror which shows it better. Also had a few people watching and everyone said depth was ok.
Also got 115kg x 1 for bench press (lol at my t-shirt... I need to buy new clothes nothing fits me anymore...)
Overall Im really happy with those lifts.
I never would have guessed I could get these kind of numbers in just 9 months. Just goes to show the power of Starting Strength, Madcows, lots and lots of food and constant intensity while training.
Let me know what you think and if you have any questions!

I like reverse hyperextensions... high repetition like 20-30 for a couple of sets. Works for about 95% of people

This begs the question: how wide are you gripping the bar?
