I usually grip it with my ring finger on it, just felt more comfortable that way. But I have to try widen it a little more since of my infinite long arms...wrist wraps are a lifesaver though.

My back always hurts if I bend forward or if I'm squatting anything heavier than 135 (my work set is 255). Next week, I'll start at 225 and try pauses at the bottom since that seems to help with keeping my chest up. I'm guessing the source of my pain is from poor form.

Finally have some videos for you guys. just something i learnt recently, reminded me when i watched your bench vid and you make a groan as you tried to come back up i think a guy helped me get my breathing right on bench, and it makes sooooooooooooooooo freakin much difference. you need to exhale on the push, when you are coming back up, and inhale as you go down. guys if you havent got your breathing in the right places etc you should do that asap, it is awesome! well for squat and bench at least, i havent learnt how to do it on the others yet

For squat and dead I go with valsalva the whole way. Just happens to be what works for me - but I agree, proper breathing is really important and it's something you should play around with yourself to see what suits you best. I've apparently gained the reputation among some of the organizations I'm in here on campus, as well as between my friends, of being somewhat of a personal trainer. I've got more people asking me to go to the gym with them (either to get them started, what they should do for X goal, to keep them motivated, or just because they like going to the gym now - in order of how long they've been going with me =p) and while it's great for keeping ME honest, it's a HUGE timesink. IDK how the fraternity bros do it when they roll up to the gym five or six guys deep, even if they only bench. It must take hours! I don't even have enough gym sessions in my week to accomodate all the people who are trying to go with me... and I love helping people get in shape, but damn =/. Need to do that for a real job. Should just get my personal Trainer certification.

I pulled my back a while ago and just squatted light (like 95lbs/135lbs just enough to feel the pain start but not bad) for like 5x10 or 3x15 and it worked wonders.

How many workouts did you have like that before you felt improvement? My back has been pretty tight for a week or two now and I thought this would be a good idea. I feel like if I have one really light weight high rep day it would help a lot.

failed at 80x3 clean, got 1 up, then the 2nd rep felt like it weighed a tonne, just couldn't pull it up, then proceeded to fail 75 kg. anyway, work's been crazy busy this week, and i didn't get enough sleep nor enough quality food (didn't have time to cook, so bought most of my meals this week) all week I think i'm going to try to go to the gym every three days instead of three times a week until I'm less busy
