they said EU server in gameplay rules, i have accounts on both NA and EU. alot of tournaments are open to everyone regardless if they have an account for that server. Like the EU playhem dailies or the teamliquid opens. But this thread makes it sound like only if you live in EU. They werent very clear on the main site. and like i said in my original post, the official rules on the plantronics site are coming "soon". Where they list the eligibility stuff.

It means that you can submit one of your replays from a game within this tournament
|
Why do you need Real-ID when registering? I don't want bunch of randoms to get my real-ID.
Otherwise, great initiative.
|
LaLuSh, good question. This is due to the fact that in previous events we've run, we simply required an alias and character code. However, during one of these said tournaments, Blizzard started to allow alias changes.
What ended up happening is that at the beginning of the event, players entered their alias and character ID during registration. Because we locked this info and do not allow players to make edits to their alias after they register (to help protect against smurfing and players using multiple accounts), it creates an issue as players change their alias and character code through Battle.net. Their next match opponent no longer had the most up-to-date information, and many times players simply forgot they had even registered with their old alias in the tournament.
To remedy this problem, we decided it's best to require that players input their Real ID, so matter who changes their alias / character code mid-event, their opponent will always have the most up-to-date and accurate contact information.
Also just wanted to say thanks to everyone that registered and will be following along during the event! Registration is now officially closed, and the first matches start tomorrow (or today European time) at 8pm GMT on Monday.
We'll be releasing videos cast by a professional shout-caster for the Epic Replay Promotion as well as doing a live-stream for the event finals! Stay tuned for details or follow the event progress @ http://gamecom.plantronics.com/sc2eu!

Nooooo, not another tournament that thinks it has hot enough prizes to have players show up on ~12ish different occasions during a 2 month period.
If I realized this when signing up I would have boycotted this tournament on principle.
Didn't you learn anything from the GeForce tournament, which might I add, had about 5x to 10x of your total prizes (and still people didn't show up). Look at the post I wrote before the GeForce tournament had even started for proof of my disdain of tournament organizers who think organizing these type of prolonged tournaments online is a good idea.
There are more posts from me in that thread, but I can't be bothered digging them up. The most important of which, is me complaining about something that is very common among tournament organizers who schedule games on a million different dates:
Outsourcing the rescheduling process and inter-player contact to THE PLAYERS.
Plantronics mail: The times listed on the tournament bracket are the DEFAULT times that your match should be played. However, we understand that there are a number of time-zones in the European region, and one particular match time may not be good for everyone. We encourage you to please contact your opponent to schedule your match at a time that works for both players. In the event you and your opponent agree to play at a different match time other than the one listed on the bracket, you will need to open a support ticket to let an administrator know. You have until 4 hours before the next round's match-up to play your match. Failure to adhere to these rules may result in a double forfeit! Please remember to keep an event administrator in the loop as to when your match will be played if other than the default match time listed on the tournament bracket.
To pull off a tournament of scale successfully with these kind of rules requires a world class admin team. With increasing prize pool, comes increasing incentives of reporting opponents absent and requesting undue walk overs (how does one as an admin know who's telling the truth?); increased conflict over scheduling and the (un)availability of opponents. Let's hope your tournament isn't big enough for this to occur. With decreased prize pool, comes the increased likelihood of no shows. Often times both players from a series will be absent, leaving extra work and confusion for admins. But I liked that you've got a roule for a "double forfeit". Because you'll probably need to use it a lot.
Good luck with your tour. Hasn't been one instance in the history of history thus far where a tournament with a million scheduled dates -- and with rules outsourcing scheduling and walk over reports to players -- has been successful. But I hope yours will defy nature and be the first one.
I've coined a law that describes how these types of tournaments usually play out:
Goody's law: As online tournaments grow more prolonged, the probability of Goody being the only top player to show up on all scheduled dates approaches 1.

several questions,
1 you don't list players codes on your site, so how are we meant to play? 2 you haven't released the maps or rules yet and the games are meant to start in 2 hours 3 what if people can't play at the exact times?

Proves my point.

1. You are provided with your opponent's Real ID on your My Matches page. http://gamecom.plantronics.com/?page=my_matches&eventid=1812.
2. The maps and tournament rules have been available since the tournament was announced - http://gamecom.plantronics.com/?page=page&abbr=rules&event_id=227&eventid=1812.
3. You can reschedule with your opponent, you'll just need to open a support ticket letting an admin know. We spaced the rounds of the brackets out to accommodate players who are unable to make the default time. Generally speaking, you have about 48 hours to play your first round match. This is all covered in the email that was sent to all registered players.

I have no idea what the issue is lol. We ran a similar SC2 event in the US that had the exact same format, with 2x the players and it went well.
The times listed on the bracket is simply the default time. If one of the two players cannot play, they can contact their opponent and ask them to work with them on a time that works for both of them. We spaced the rounds out enough so that you have at least 24+ hours to reschedule your match with your opponent. I understand that you don't like the fact that you have to play multiple times, but unfortunately this is a basic reality of a 512-player tournament.
If you don't like the tournament format, that's fine, no one is forcing anyone to play in a free online tournament. I'm sorry you had a bad experience in another online event ran by a separate group, but we're honestly just trying to put on a free online tournament (which includes a very modest prize pool) for players in Europe to the best of our ability. I understand this may not be the type of event that a top-tier professional player would be interested in due to the large player turn-out, but there are other members in the community who would like a chance to play and compete in an online event for prizes.

Please see my above post which addresses all these issues.

heh. The admins of this tournament are properly useless. An opponent of mine showed up a full 22 hours too late for the match, started whining, and told me he had sent a ticket. A day later the match was changed to loss for me.
So apparantly, if you whine hard enough to these admins, they will change the outcome of the match even tho you weren't even online for the match to begin with.
The real funny part is that they never bothered to contact me to get the stories straight, nor even to inform me that the match had been overturned. The only reason I know is because the guy told me himself.
If this stays it has to be the most unprofessional admins in the history of a tournament. The next match was suppose to start in 2 hours, and I don't expect an answer before tomorrow. Which means my opponent will have to play his match twice.
Heres a protip: If someone opens a ticket a full day after a match is suppose to be played, you might want to contact his opponent to see whats what.
|
I'm in the tournament, some of the complaints in this thead are a bit weird (character code IS available...you click on your match in the brackets page whilst logged in and you will see your opponent char code at the bottom of the page on your matchup...)
Faced up to a silver and a gold player so far and no problems with scheduling, you can schedule your own times to play at the set time, not difficult guys?
One thing I will say is that the website has to be made clearer, it is extremely hard to find information you want.
http://gamecom.plantronics.com/?page=events&id=227
The crapness of that page is the problem, it needs to have links to the brackets and map pool information on that page. Otherwise you'll lose a lot of players because navigating around is so arcane, I'm having to paste in web addresses from the emails I get. Otherwise it has been a good tournament
|
"One thing I will say is that the website has to be made clearer, it is extremely hard to find information you want."
Yeah, I think this might be the root to all the problems.
My problem a couple of posts above has since been fixed, but that doesn't mean I'm any less annoyed at the admins who let it happen in the first place.

Yeah, where are those brackets :O
