+ Show Spoiler + Hero of Goma Fada was my promo card. Blue was shit, lots of lifegain interaction in white but not much lifegain, which was in green and black (both pretty light). This time around I had almost no removal at all (stone fury, complete disregard, outnumber, that's about it). I really wanted to try BW since I think it's my favourite colour pair, but since I opened Omnath, I decided to give it a go and made two decks. I used the GR first: + Show Spoiler + Omnath, of course. Blisterpod, Eyeless Watcher and From Beyond as ramp/source of chump blockers. Because of that I added Deathless Behemoth as I have the potential to bring him back over and over. Another combo in Zada, Hedron Grinder with 2x Earthen Arms (game ending if I can get to 7 mana, stupid good for 2). Rolling Thunder which is really versatile. Then a few landfall creatures, Makindi Sliderunner, Valakut Predator and Tunneling Geopede because I need early drops to hold. Kozilek sentries are trash but I added them because of this, need to hold till I can draw a Zada combo, Omnath, or Deathless Behemoth. Went 0-2. The other guy had a GR full of landfall creatures, game 1 he played them turns 2 3 4 on curve and utterly destroyed me. Second game I was a bit short on mana but held a bit, only to be met with combat tricks and he ended me. I decided to switch decks. Did a playtest, I barely won but he got mana screwed so not very indicative considering his deck. Turn 2 was a bye (phew). + Show Spoiler [BW deck] + Drana's Emissary from my first booster, I was really happy to open it as it's exactly the kind of cards I'd try to add to my existing collection to make an actual deck. Kalastria Healer, I had him last week and was really tempted to try him but not enough allies. This time, I had Serene Steward, Bloodbond Vampire, 2x Cliffside Lookout and Makindi Patrol and my Hero of Goma Fada to add. Courier Griffin for additional lifegain, Retreat to Emeria to trigger more allies synergy, Angel of Renewal and Kalastria Nightwatch as bombs. Defensive options/removal in Roil's Retribution, Lithomancer's focus, Encircling Fissure, Tandem Tactics and Demon's Grasp and Complete Disregard. Third series was against an opponent with more or less the same deck as me at the start of last week: scion generation, one or two big eldrazi, and smaller ingest ones. First game very close, I end up stabilising a board and getting some life back through the Healer ally trigger and dropping the Emissary. After this I have 3 flyers so grind him down. He exiled 9 of my cards during that game. Second one is him being on the defensive a lot because he draws a bunch of lands. After awhile, where I again have the emissary, he topdecks to defend himself, followed with Kiora. He makes a mistake and uses her +1 to swing with the elemental then untap it for defense, instead of not attack and use Kiora's -2 to try and search for another creature. I exile the elemental on his turn with complete disregard then kill Fiora, and finish the game from there. Series 4: First game is a landfall-buffed creatures played on curve which stomps me in a couple turns, not much to say. Second game has me dropping the healer and a string of allies pretty quickly, and after the drop the vigilance-granting ally and swing after he got some damage in with his landfall-buffed creatures, he switches to the defensive. A 4/4 is still really strong when you look at most allies' stats, and he showed me a Swell of Growth earlier so I'm very wary. I end up with Kalastria Nightwatch then a scout to make a flyer with vigilance a turn, and between that, the health swings from Healer and Emissary and my numerical advantage I'm able to finish him off. He has Infiltrators too, which make it a pain to get damage in because they'll trade with any creature with only 2 thoughness, and nothing I have has the 4 strength necessary to kill them. The third and final game I have 2 marshes in my starting hand, feel confident because I have 10 plains in the deck even though 3 of my cards require white mana, and end up not drawing lands for 4 turns. I drop a healer but my opponent 3 or 4 2/1 creatures and I swiftly die. He tells me after the game that I should have immediatly traded the healer for his first 2/1 when I saw he played other things and/or I didn't have other options, because keeping its rally effect isn't worth the health snowball he started. I get one pack, one (ignorable eldrazi) promo card, and the remnants of another guy's pack who only took the rare out of his. Another healer (got 3 now, yay! Obvious staple in a BW lifegain ally deck so I'm happy), Retreat to Emeria (if they costed 2W they'd be good I think, but 3W feels so harsh... isn't that very slow for allies?), Blighted Woodland and Ruinous Path. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with what I have, and it didn't go too late (21 people so 5 rounds, only did 4 because it's a shop so it closes at 7 PM). I lost more than I won again but the games felt closer and I only got screwed twice (and only one time was it really a "draw, pass, look at guy killing you"). As I've mentioned on skype, I find the landfall mechanic extremely bland on cards such as [url=mythicspoiler.com/bfz/cards/valakutpredator.html]Valakut Predator because they become binary aggro creatures: when buffed you're unlikely to trade so you want to force your opponent not to attack, and keep them for blocking. But with the value they get per mana (as long as you keep playing lands each turn), you can't really race them, and if you try chump blocking you'll run out of blockers before he runs out of mana if he curves out properly. It doesn't feel like there's much decision-making involved either. I prefer the landfall effects of cards like Atoum Stonewaker because I find it more interesting, and the card itself is easier to remove, so there's a tradeoff for the power you get. I know that in terms of curves and stuff it has implications on deckbuilding (since you want to keep drawing lands, not just curve to 4, 5 or whatever aggro decks do, then keep playing cheap stuff, so it has more components of tempo compared to aggro/burn), but that's not something really visible to me (even less so because building such a deck doesn't interest me as playing it wouldn't either). I prefer balancing allies for example, or looking at their stats, effects and costs before choosing in which order to play them, for example. I know there are stupidly fast ally decks too (took one to the face last week, double strike and trample kills you quickly) and that mine here was a bit more grinde-y than facerush, but that's what I prefer. Swell of Growth is interesting in that it lets you trigger landfall on the opponent's turn, for example, however if it's just to give your blockers +2/+2 (on top of buffing one of them) then it's still the same boring straight-forward stuff. Ingest/Convert is interesting but both clunky and gimmicky, which is a shame.

Glad to see this one went a little better Alaric. I'm really interested in what both full versions of your decks looked like because from the sounds of it both versions were very strong. Makes me feel like I missed something.

+ Show Spoiler [GR] + Evolving Wilds 8x Mountains, 8x Forests (I think) 1-drops: Outnumber, Blisterpod, 2-drops: 2x Kozilek's Sentinel, 2x Earthen Arms, Reckless Cohort, Makindi Sliderunner, Seek the Wilds 3-drops: 2x Tunneling Geopede, Valakut Predator, Retreat to Kazandu 4-drops: Belligerent Whiptail, Eyeless Watcher, From Beyond, Zada, Hedron grinder, Vestige of Emrakul, 5-drops: Shatterskull recruit, Stonefury 6-drops: Deathless Behemoth 7-dops: Omnath, Locus of Rage Other: Rolling Thunder Decent curve on paper I guess? If I can curve the Sliderunner into the Predator then the Whiptail, it's decent aggro. If I don't have to deal with aggro, Seek the Wilds, Tunneling Geopede and From Beyond can put some pressure while setting up ramp for Deathless Behemot/Omnath, and if I can get Zada out (or at least set up a Zada -> Earthen Arms play w/ Scions) it's a huge swing. But I don't have anything to deal with big landfall guys like Predators, Territorial Baloth, Geyserfield Stalkers, etc. especially if I'm not on the play. Maybe it was just that the guy had a good curve and I drew my shit cards the series I played this deck (Kozilek's Sentinels are useless in these situations because they don't kill anything and can't survive a block, which was why I put them there as I lack devoid spells). Now I kinda want to do some more games with it. + Show Spoiler [BW deck] + I didn't put the Sandstone Briddges in because curve and tempo. 7x Marshes, 10x Plains 1-drops: 2x Cliffside Lookout, Lithomancer's focus 2-drops: Kalastria Healer, Serene Steward, Felidar Cub, Tandem Tactics, Kor Castigator 3-drops: Complete Disregard, Encircling Fissure, Shadow Glider, Drana's Emissary, Makindi Patrol 4-drops: Bloodbond Vampire, Courier Griffin, Inspired Charge, Retreat to Emeria, Silent Skimmer 5-drops: Hero of Goma Fada, Roil's Retribution, Kalastria Nightwatch, Fiend's Grasp 6-drops: Angel of Renewal Looking at it now, my curve seems a lot less early-oriented than I thought. I got really lucky with some of these draws. On the other hand I didn't realise I had several flyers and they basically broke a stalemate for me before my opponent could topdeck something strong. Kalastria Healer obvious MVP, along with Drana's Emissary. Cliffside Lookout did some wok by providing early drops, thena chump blocker / ally trigger when I drew the other. Makindi Patrol helped put pressure by letting me attack with high thoughness creatures / flyers during board stalemates. Retreat and Inspire Charge ended up Ingested in most games they appeared in. ![]() My curve/baseline creatures are a lot less solid than in the main deck here. I've got a few combat tricks and the fissure to bait my opponent into bad plays while preserving my board though, and I underestimated the pressure some allies can put out by simply being on the board (maybe because the only time I faced allies was last week when I got rolled by RW with strong draws (double strike hurts), so a lot more aggro), like the Healer and the Patrol, both meaning guaranteed damage in if I dropped an ally. Steward didn't put in as much work as I'd hoped, she combos well with the Healer but if I have to sac one she'll go first. Because of retreat to Kazandu and Jaddi Offshoot I thought of trying to splash some green in, or attempt BW, but overall it was actually too weak to be worth it. Grovetender Druids (I opened one last week) would make a better splash. Lifespring Druid was ridiculous when it appeared, allowing strong converge plays, but I had more to do with the card appearing when people were confident they could afford it. Beastcaller Savant and Ally encampment are much better at what they do, albeit with restrictions.

No, but you can play it online and there's full english translations available (assuming language is an issue for you). There's details on the sf forums if you're interested. edit: also we can play together in late-october / november if you're interested.
