How is dragon priest not-that-viable? It's priest so it's got lategame tools (plus it's dragons), plus it shitstomps aggro with taunts and sheer trading value. Control priest does the same vs aggro but is better for control. Wait what. Both Control and Dragon are roughly equally viable. They're probably 2nd tier decks, if I were to rank them by tier list; not the super OP decks of the meta, but both compete very well. Wyrmrest into Velen's Chosen is just a gigantic swing that aggro decks can't break without a silence. EDIT: Also, Control Priest doesn't do the same as Dragon Priest vs Aggro unless you sacrifice the control matchups, and even then, it's not reliable compared to Dragon Priest vs Aggro. The problem with Control Priest has always been unreliability due to dependence on combos and borderline tech cards (and not drawing Auchenai/Circle vs Zoo, for instance, would usually spell death), and the extremely delicate balance between it's aggro and control matchups, so that as Control Priest you usually built towards anti-aggro or anti-control. I almost never lost to dragon priest as handlock. Double owl is great, shadowflame resets the board where dragon priest can't reload that easily, and they have no burst to be scared of. When everyone was playing dragon priest I played handlock and went from R5 to legend in two afternoons. You should almost never lose to Control Priest either; that's generally an even worse matchup because eventually JARAXXUS EREDAR LORD OF THE BURNING LEGION wins you the game because #noreach and control priest runs out of options, unless they get godmode draws out of thoughtsteal (like, x2 shadowflame+giants). Then again the same applies to Dragon Priest because thoughtsteal is still key to the Handlock matchup for them, but more midgame pressure vs virtually no pressure at all. You need to run Velen+Mind Blast to reliably beat Handlock with Priest.

Control priest can certainly win if they have both lightbombs at opportune times. Their lategame swings are Ysera and Paletress and they can certainly get lucky. I'd rate handlock vs dragon priest at 90/10, but it's more 75/25 for handlock vs control priest.

Even when I ran double lightbomb post-GvG, you're still depending on the Handlock player making a mistake and overextending. At higher level play, that just doesn't happen. The Handlock has to deliberately misplay to lose, because lightbomb is a known factor (and there's usually at least x1 in a deck). And when you run double lightbomb and other heavy control tech, the aggro matchups suffer deeply.
The only real difference between Dragon and Control right now is that Control does slightly better vs control and worse vs aggro. There are some matchup variations (Dragon does somewhat better vs Patron, though the matchup is still horrible, because taunts and midgame pressure, slightly better against midrange Druid, but again that's a terrible matchup for Priest anyways), but overall, similar.
Hence why I rate them with roughly similar viability.

The handle and lock will have to be changed another day, it took about one hour to do, and I missed half a day of work (and thus lost a half a day off) because of this. group projects are annoying when people don't know what their talking about and snap at you when you try to ask for clarification of what a term actually means and not just what they think it means.
and then they still refuse to believe you when you show that the dictionary says their wrong.

Spoilers - it doesn't get better in the work environment. Source: the project my department if currently working on.

well presumably you don't have people arguing with the dictionary definition of a term. but yeah I figured that.
basically someone was using some convulted means to try to define a term instead of just looking it up. I also got snapped at because someone apparently thought that 18 and 19 year olds weren't considered teenagers and didn't think they had to clarify they were talking about teens under the age of 18. once again just take 5 seconds and look it up. "a person in his or her teens."

Well I hit legend playing handlock so idk if that's high level play but take that for what it's worth. Typically you HAVE to extend into lightbomb territory if they get successful Shrinkmeister combos (either SW or Cabal) on your drakes. Voljin is great for picking off drakes too. Keep in mind my idea of control priest is the chinese firebomb priest build with gilblins.
|
Ehhhhh? Chinese Lightbomb priest is anti-aggro, not control. I mean, it's possible to lose against that as Handlock (honestly, I think my record with that is BETTER against Handlock than with a more standard anti-control priest because DETH DOES NOT SCURRR MEH), but the typical "control" priest is generally CoH-centric.
As for Shrink+Cabal, that's an 8-mana play which, while a major swing, is still very late into the game. A turn 4 drake is very hard to answer for priest (there's shrink+SW: Pain, but it's a significantly smaller swing).
As long as you only play 1 giant at a time, Priest is not in a happy position. Two giants is where yes, you over-extended into lightbomb.
