The P:M devs are doing a really good job of getting it close. There are some differences (I don't know the specifics), but it's a hell of a lot of fun.
They are releasing Mewtwo and Roy soon - Mewtwo looks siiiiiiiick
The hardcore players still prefer Melee, but as far as providing a much closer experience to Melee while also including an expanded character roster, P:M does a damn good job.
Mew2King has gone on record saying he prefers P:M I believe. He's absolutely nasty at it too.
-draft what I thought was a pretty good rogue deck and go 1-3, it all went downhill starting with the pally with a million hammers, truesilvers, and swords of justices.
-draft what I think is an awful priest deck and go 7-3. Priest just OP?
The funniest thing was when it was priest vs priest and I'm going first with cleric 2 owls and a spellbreaker in my hand. I start with cleric, he coins crusader. I owl suicide cleric. He plays lightwell. Owl. He plays lightspawn. Spellbreaker. I felt really bad for him.

You actually understand it perfectly, Priest is batshit in arena, pally is batshit in arena, rogue is crap (yes rogue is totally fine but it's clearly worse than Priest/Pally/Mage in arena, plus I had a point to make).
So...someone give me the rundown? I tend not to pay attention to this kind of stuff anymore and I';m assuming it's not something I'll ever buy/play.
Seems like all the MMO stuff from EVE that I want, without the whole "full time job" aspect. At least, that's the impression I got from my bro-in-law describing it to me.
I remember playing the spore concept demo where you ran around as a vector-drawn triangular pyramid eating other triangular pyramids indefinitely. It was fun! I eventually got the creature designer they released and had fun with that too, including improbably breaking it so that I could make a creature with a leg so short you couldn't see it so a foot was just sticking out of the body.

Yeah MMOs all look fucking amazing but it's almost kind of nice that the whole genre just eliminates itself from my radar indefinitely.
I always hate when games come out that I want to but won't get to play---MMOs I know I SHOULDN'T ever play even if I was interested so it's a little better for me.
PlanetSide2 is great cuz it's big enough to feel like a whole world, and there's lots of personal development you can do with the certs, but I don't feel bad not playing for months at a time.

Honestly, I feel like the Arena format needs a little tweaking. If nothing else, the fact that you have to play every card you draft creates some issues. One being that it's hard to make risky picks early and then ditch the cards if you didn't get the later picks to back it up, so there are certain safe reliable picks you just make over and over again. Combined with the fact that the card pool is very neutral-heavy to begin with, you end up seeing a lot of the same cards every draft.
You don't need the shared card pool of drafting in MtG, but even making it draft 40 use 30 would make me feel more comfortable overall with the format.
Edit: Admittedly this issue partially solves itself as the card pool evolves. Part of why Arena falls back on the same picks is because we're playing with a base set that's got primarily got a card pool built around basic functions and not around specific archetypes and synergy. It's essentially the equivalent of a core set draft in MtG, and core set drafts blow because card synergy is fairly weak and archetypes are nonexistent, resulting in you just valuing card quality highest every time.

I also hate getting a deck with maybe one epic, and then facing someone with 3 legendaries ~_~
