My friend gave up on P:M, I suck at sandbagging as even if i SD 2-3 times a game I still win.
Is there a guide to MTG drafting, I have done it a couple of times but its going to take like 20 times to wrap my head around it since I can't remember shit and generally I play HS, Chess and Smash with strategy rather than tactics.
3rd time I played I got second. 3 of the people I played had played it for 3+ years.

Drafting comes with practice. 9/10 unless you're at a table with people who KNOW how to draft and do it frequently you can just force the colors you want to play and go from there. Reading signals and players comes with time, but as for drafting theros, I just force GW/GU Heroic.

There's not really a "simple" way to start drafting. The best you can do if you've never done it before is look at the cards in the format, get an idea of what you'd want to play and what to look out for, and go from there. Everything else is just practice.

i did it! rank 5 ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/OeQG2zb.png)
not sure if i want to go higher or just savor my rank. if you're a good player, i would love advice on how to alter these decks to make a push for rank 1 :D
here are the 2 decks i use, feel free to criticize or comment: ramp druid: (last card is a ysera) control hunter: (last card is ragnaros)
recent changes include taking out the yetis from ramp and adding the drake and tazdingo, and pulling out cairne for sunwalker. i figure the extra taunts are worth the loss in stat value, especially against zoo and hunter. there's no preferred draw in this deck IMO, i just kind roll with the punches. you have to take the hits for a few turns til you get your early taunts. i suppose farseer and senjin early can't hurt, but mostly i use swipe and wrath to clear the board til i can drop my big hitters
i know that the hunter deck is a mess - no kill command, no hunter's mark, no timber wolves, no tracking, ooze doesn't fit, no misdirection etc - but it works alright. pretty reliant on getting the traps out against warlock/hunter, and i always want to get the bow if possible, but it's primarily a control deck so i don't go for a ton of rush combos. leeroy + UTH is my big lethal combo. perfect curve in your hand is either: leper, knife juggler, animal companion, houndmaster if first; leper, coin into animal companion, eaglehorn, trap + hero power if second.
i run ragnaros in every deck atm to get around hunter traps. try to eat both hunter's marks early (gadget/sunwalker/twi drake/etc) then drop rag on an empty board instead of testing traps. hardest matchup for both of these decks is control warrior by far. zoo is pretty tough for both but the druid is better against it. i know they're both legendary heavy, p2w only way to play

if you do enough reading, you can get a sense of general archtypes (they're usually 2 color pairs like UW, UG, RW, UB, RG, etc). With those general strategies in mind, you can then go for one of them depending on what powerful cards you see. This isn't the "right" way to draft, but it's the easiest way to go about it without A LOT of practice.

If people here are interested in watching DotA2, they should give that Starladder LAN Finals Game 2 of Alliance vs EG a watch. It was a fun game to watch. It was entertaining, and pretty tense even if not all of it could be said to be the "perfect" play.

Starladder makes me wish LCS/LPL didn't basically kill all those secondary events because only non-LCS/LPL teams can participate in them.
The list of teams for Starladder's League portion looks depressing as hell (only team of note to be in it was NiP, and they ff-ed all their matches).

I did this for a while when I was still playing Magic (it's been quite a few years at this point--you can see a few of my posts among the early ones in the TL MtG thread). It had its uses, but it's also easy to get into some bad habits this way.

That way if you want to be competitive at their events, you have to keep buying everything as soon as it comes out.
Also, at official GW tournaments, you're only allowed to use figures made by GW. Sometimes you're even only allowed to use figures made by GW within a recent timespan. I was literally barred from entering a GW tournament for having figures in my army that were made by GW but over 10 years ago at one point. Well, that's not entirely true. Aside from the reeeeally old codexes (Sisters of Battles, Orks, and Blood Angels), most everything can be competitive if you build it right and play smart, it's just that certain codexes have an easier time. Heck, even Space Wolves, who are still using an old 5th ed Codex, are fairly competitive with the right units and allies. The Space Marine codex and Tyranid codex (both the newest aside from supplements) are considered balanced middle tier. Certain armies just mesh better with the ruleset. BA, Orks, and Tyranids are hurting right now because 6th ed really messed with Close Combat style armies, while Tau, Eldar, and Astra Militarium are shooting-focused armies that never did well with CC, so they're flourishing. The introduction of Allies made Eldar great because they can ally in units and then buff them with their amazing psychic powers (hello Jetbike Council with DE allies). Daemons are fucking broken because of a gimmick that gives a Daemon Prince a 2++ invulnerable save that's rerollable, so basically you can't kill the fucker and have to tarpit it. Hopefully that gets fixed in the next edition, tournaments are already saying 2+ and 3+ rerolls are defaulted down to 4+ on the reroll because they're so annoying. That last one sounds kinda sketchy. You might have been barred for trying to proxy an old model as a new one (which is one of their sticking points), but I see plenty of people playing with old pewter models. Hell, Sisters don't actually have any new models made in the last ~5 years or so. As your number one fanboi (and a Daemon player) I feel that I need to correct you on ScreamerStar. For starters, that list has never, and never will, win any major tournaments. It is a cheestastic list that does very well against bad to medium skill players but a high level player with a solid list will win a large majority of the time (provided it isn't kill points but fuck kill points). There is plenty of shit that is broken in this game that you can bitch about but please don't complain about ScreamerStar. It's trash and detracts from the actual Daemon lists that have placed high and require quite a bit of skill to play. The most recent GT (Adepticon) had Daemons placing top three. All three of them were playing Flying Circus in a missions and matchups that were pretty horrendously favored towards that list. Not a single SceamerStar in sight.
I am going to a local tournament this weekend that is a pretty straightforward list that is very similar to the list here. http://daemons40k.blogspot.com/2014/02/wanna-see-my-lvo-list.html He played at the top table and eventually took top 20 in the tournament (going 4 and 1).
Here's a look a the Flying Circus that are a little less fun to play IMO but still aren't "broken". http://www.frontlinegaming.org/2014/01/27/belakor-doing-work-a-battle-report/ http://www.torrentoffire.com/4339/how-the-win-went-down
Seriously, fuck ScearmerStar. Trash list that gives Daemons a bad name.

I agree. I'm curious if it would still happen even if it were allowed for LCS teams. There is very little incentive for it, and it conflicts with how draining LCS is. I agree though that it would be cool to see LCS teams there.
Also the TSM invitationals are coming back. So, maybe we will see LCS teams in NA at least there.

I honestly haven't seen a Daemon player "in the wild", so to speak, so my experience with them comes from battle reports on youtube, where you see a good amount of Screamerstar.
I quite like Flying Circus lists. Partially because I can go ahead and buy some more Night Scythes and do it myself (>.>), but I find the new Tyranid Flying MC lists quite good as well.
I didn't know you played, .AK. Always cool to find someone

Yeah its cool meeting new people. Although we probably won't be playing any time soon because I live in fucknowhere Alaska but its also nice. I need to go for a bit but the friend that got me into 40k plays Nids and is loving his flyers right now (they are also gorgeously painted). When I home I'll post some up for you to look at.

I think it's funny that one of the draws of season play with LCS is that it ensures stability with salaries for the season, yet with the frequent patch cycles and changes they can patch someone's signature heroes out of the game and turn all-stars into has-beens.
