However, is it really worth the frustration that it can bring? Especially in team games, where tempers flare and you have to deal with people that are not just enemies, but allies that can be just as antagonistic, it can go from an enjoyable experience to a headache-inducing shitstorm in about 3 seconds flat. 1v1 competitive games are a bit better, since you know that if you lose it's your fault (or people abusing shitty mechanics, but then you can take the high ground anyway), but they can also be frustrating. I think it's something that's just been ingrained in my head from gaming over the years. Every single player game, no matter how brutally difficult, is winnable. So losing games that you should be able to win because someone else throws it is absurdly frustrating because in any other game playing at your top condition, and indeed sometimes better than you ever have, should be more than enough to get you a win. But with teams, sometimes that's not enough. And that sucks, it really does.+ Show Spoiler + Not trying to start an argument about "my team lost the game I should be higher ELO", but you know it happens every so often no matter what game you're playing I have no illusions that I'm done forever or anything like that (see? learning!), but I think I've once again reached a point where the games are more annoying and frustrating than they are fun, and I'd rather stop then go bonkers again.

edit: It seems like at least a handful of people got screwed out of it because of the late announcement of the cap. Hopefully there will be another nearby tourney soon. At least I can still get to Smashing Grounds

It's really fun being competitive. Pitting your skill against someone else, getting a win by defeating another person, and watching your skills noticeably sharpen over time. However, is it really worth the frustration that it can bring? My friend is very much the same way. He'd rather play single player games rather than team games almost 98% of the time. He'll play with me sometimes but I'm really the only person that he plays with on a semi-consistent basis. And honestly, if single player games are your jam, more power to you. Nothing wrong with playing nothing but single player games. But I think the most important lesson that I've learned about gaming is that I play games to have fun. So if I'm playing a game and I'm no longer having fun with it I just stop. It was really hard to do initially (E.g. "Man I really need to complete this game for the sake of completeness") but once I got to the point where I just played games for fun I've felt that my gaming experience has been more liberating in a sense. Just my 2 cents.

They announced last night that they were capping P:M at 64 and there were ~10 spots left. ~_~ edit: It seems like at least a handful of people got screwed out of it because of the late announcement of the cap. Hopefully there will be another nearby tourney soon. At least I can still get to Smashing Grounds Sorry to hear that, dang. I figured that if there had been a cap the whole time and it hadn't filled up yet then there wasn't much to worry about. It's not too big of a deal for me but I can definitely see how a late cap announcement like that really screws with people. =(
