Surely the BASILISK boys won't be so cowardly as to sit this contest out
|
Looking forward to the Lulz on this one, it's gonna be good specially given the people who have already signed in 🤴
|
Heh I read it as 2player, 3player and 4 player maps but it really looks like 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4, this will be a bit crazy.

I hope someone streams some of these with the team chat. That was fun when Rotti did it in some past tournament, might have been the last nationwars?

was fun to watch, maybe for the future change rules to no minerals sharing between partners, should make it alot more interesting to follow

Trading resources can be an important part of a team strategy.

maybe because trading resources is what killed the 2v2 scene, almost everybody just left during wol because its not fun to play nor watch

Might as well to delete team games altogether, then. The idea goes against what teamwork is.

I've watched enough team games that not playing does not mean my point of view is invalid.
The problem is more the units balanced for 1v1, but not necessarily for 2v2. And Blizzard not investing more on team games from day 0.

4 of the 5 new 2v2 maps use a design that I believe is over-emphasizing phoenix mech play compared to some prior map pools, leading to lower diversity in gameplay. This is the 'shared main single ramp to shared natural design'. It creates a longer main to natural ground travel time compared to air travel time, since units have to walk over to a centralized ramp to bounce between the main and natural. This makes stargate play stronger compared in 1v1, since you cant track air units between your main and natural effectively. Maps that use this feature can still reduce air play by minimizing deadspace, separating allies, creating open naturals, reducing gas at naturals, using a base layout that creates 'protected bases', minimizing obtrusive ground terrain, airblockers, reducing the air attack angles on main and naturals, etc. The new maps are aesthetically gorgeous and take a lot of balance concerns into consideration, but I think it would be interesting to see maps move in a direction that take the phoenix mech dynamic as a more central focus.

Looks like Terran and Protoss are really dominating so far, but I wonder how much of that is due to balance/maps and how much is just due to the players? Even in 1v1, Zerg can look weak outside the very top tier of players, and there's a glut of 'mid-tier' Protosses (especial in Europe).
Just as a reminder, Zerg did quite well in the WTL 2v2 Tour back in 2022, with Dark/herO and Serral/Oliveira reaching the finals.

The game isn’t meant to be balanced for 2v2… stoping people from trading minerals, which is literally intended game design, will not bring balance to the game mode. No idea what you are on about.

i think you need to work on your reading comprehension. i didnt say this will miraculously fix the balance in 2v2 - i just said it could provide better games where not almost every game turns into feeding mass phoenixes.
if somebody would seriously want to try balance the 2v2 mode - at this stage it could only done with new maps.
no idea what you are on about.

Then try to directly petition Blizzard to accelerate the process, but even then I don't think this will lead to anything.
Bluntly put, this week's tournaments are also there to test said multiplayer balance as they are the end result of the mapmaker contest held earlier.
Is it too much to ask about not expecting miracles ? Because that's what you're asking, despite you denying it.

ok really last post here since you also have a little trouble with reading it seems:
all i did was suggesting a change to rules, to make games more diverse and maybe interesting to watch for the viewers. if wardi is interested in trying it out or not is his business, if hes happy with the quality of the games i guess there is no need to change things up for now.
not sure what you two bozos are doing in this thread

Enjoyed this week's games!
I wonder what the right cadence is for these kinds of team tournaments. Back in BW Proleague, there was a period where 2v2 was being played regularly, but it was scrapped because it just wasn't nearly as interesting as 1v1. However, BW 2v2 has some flaws as an spectator esport because of how the balance works on standard maps (very rush/all-in heavy), whereas SC2 tends toward longer and more complex matches.
I don't think SC2 2v2 is ever going to challenge 1v1 as the core of competitive SC2, but I do feel like there's room for some more 2v2 tourneys before we reach the saturation point of audience (and player!) interest.
