Although even in a BO7, I don't know if we get even one of those types of games.

People are overrating the significance of small sample sizes. Solar is second, roughly 100 ELO behind Serral, and Dark is third, roughly 100 ELO behind Solar. Considering the volatility of ZvZ, there is no surprise whatsoever in anyone of the three beating anyone else on one occasion or another. This being so, it's understandable that Onsyde would send Solar rather than Maru.

A series win in ZvP boosts all 3 of Serral's (or any players) matchup ratings. Serral's insane ZvP and ZvT winrates guarantee he'll be number 1 in ZvZ even if he does lackluster in the matchup as he has for most of this year.

I cheered for Onsyde and I saw relatively early on that Dark was (as usual) controlling his spellcasters very well. Maybe Solar has a really good grasp of ZvZ timings on most maps but since this map felt like a no rush 10mn type of map, he was forced into late game ZvZ where Dark can shine? No clean sheet for Onsyde, it’s gonna be a difficult season with TL being strong as well

This is the first time I hear about this. How does this work, exactly? I just checked the Aligulac FAQ but could not find any details on it. There is a special case where "If a player only plays games against one race during a period, only the overall rating will change". But this cannot apply to Serral nor to any other active player, as they play many matches of all matchups during each period. In contrast, the general rule, according to the Aligulac FAQ, is that "The overall rating is always the mean of the matchup ratings." To me this seems to mean that the overall rating is a function of the matchup ratings, not the other way around. I agree that if the matchup ratings were a function of the overall rating, that would be a problem with Aligulac. In fact, it would undermine the sole purpose of the matchup ratings.

I can't tell you how it works but it's easy to verify. Aligulac ratings update around 5pm PST each day. Check the top players match history and look for someone who's only played 1 or 2 of the 3 possible race matchups during that 24 hour period. Their rating in the third matchup will still change pretty much without fail. It will be a much smaller change than the ratings in the matchups they did play but it's still impacted.

No clean sheet for Onsyde, it’s gonna be a difficult season with TL being strong as well Last season Onsyde also lost in Ace match to DKZ as well, so I am not so worried as long as they can still beat Shopify and TL, the matchup in generally favored Onsyde there. Plus, we have Basilisk also struggle a bit more now compare to last season, Serral already dropped 3 maps this season while he only drop one map for the entire last season. As for Solar, I always feel like multi-prong defense has been his issue, hes much better at a frontal fight than splitting the army left and right to deal with attack at different location. Meanwhile, Dark is the master at this, how he like to attack multiple locations at the same time like a Terran.
