I didn't know that Percival has left Maru's team to join Team GP.

Outside of DPG-GP, the matches could all go both way.

I'm digging the expanded map pool with Oblivion, Overgrowth, and Frost in place of Beckett

Jaganatha+NA server = easy DRG win vs Clem Gogo Team NV!

This is, I believe, Overgrowth's first premier competitive appearance since August 2016.
|
DRG beat Serral and Clem in the same month he lost to Bee and Skillous.
|
I never expected that DRG could take 2 map win over Clem. Clem's struggle against Korean Zergs were very true after all since he lost to Dark and got swept by Rogue last time.
But, I will give benefit of doubt since Clem may not familiar with new map, Overgrowth.

Nah, I wouldn't put his loss on the map choice. For some reason he just isn't playing as well as he normally does...

Loving the reskinned maps!

As per usual Harstem is TL's only reliable option.

Not really a fan of using old maps and reskinned on top of it (especially if some players use skins as well), looks hard to see properly and the balance on old maps seems wonky I guess it is to create chaos and prevent DPG from just rolling over everyone, with smaller teams making upsets by practicing on the old maps, but meh...

I think that's the first time I see Vania face

Oh Vanya, why would you ever do that?
|
China6284 Posts
Vanya for a hot minute thought numbers can deal with infestor plus vipers lmao.
|
Clump of 30-40+ mutalisks got killed by combination of fungal /parasitic bomb at the end. What a very unclimatic ending after Vanya lead with one base and ecomony.

What the fuck kind of lunatic decided this would be a good idea?
And also, if the teams don't decide these things anymore, who does?

To be honest, I dont hate it. So, in the previous WTL season, teams would send their starting player by map choice from the 3-maps pool. This season, player is sent out by match order, the map order shall be revealed a day before the match? Yeah that means players cant pick their favorite map anymore (from the 3-map pool) and will have to adapt to the stranger map. Also, with WTL right in the middle of DH EU, it probably would inferere with the prepartion of those EU guys. I just hope they get the schedule work out and we dont have to see the ugly situation like with Clem last season.

Knowing players aren’t set based on maps takes away a lot of the team strategy. There were a lot of mirror matches before, but I like this much less, much more randomness to each match
|
If you now want to snipe the opposing team's ace player or want to have them play your weakest player so the ace doesn't beat anyone you're counting on, you're entering a total gamble (and this whole process lowers the chance we'll get to see specific snipe builds too). And then even if you got your snipe pick right, you can still get unfavorable maps and get fucked anyway.
Possibly having less mirror matches (and it's not even guaranteed) isn't worth basically killing the strategic aspect of a preparation style teamleague to me. If anything, actually give me more mirrors and spare me from ever having to watch a PvZ again.

I fail to see how teams can plan the snipe or avoid the opponent Ace player just base on the map selection alone. Unless there is a map that clearly favor that player race or play, aka Beckett for Terran, its still a 33% chance to get the right matchup. As the player, I would hate it because of having less time to prepare. As a viewer, I dont mind to see it unless everyone going to play like Bunny did last night.

Past teamleagues have shown beyond doubt that maps are the single most important predictor when it comes to sniping players. Even if it's only a minor advantage as opposed to a clear imbalance, you use that to maximize your chances. On top of that there's player tendencies and preferences (e. g. what maps do they veto the most?) for maps. The reliability of predictions around that are what made the idea of snipe plays in Proleague viable and something teams had to plan around.
When the maps are known, predicting which player plays what map is actually nowhere near random chance unless all players on the opposing team play the same race.

I should have checked the line-ups before voting Afreeca Freecs haha .

Just realize Has is playing the last match in WTL, and he still playing Nice in DH, can the team send someone else if Has couldnt make it?
edit: Apparently the game is a replay from earlier.

What the hell was that play Rogue?

Experimenting on some units, maybe? But, that one was not good strategy. That's why he slammed the desk.

Rogue channels his inner Toto Wolff.

It's pretty refreshing to have Frost (no pun intended) back in the pool, at long last a map where it's an actual commitment to expand (other than the natural), the third base in particular being on low ground with no real choke.

DPG with an pretty amazing start

Cham is the best Zerg in KR, damn.

Never expected a big upset for today matches. Poor plays from Rogue especially, and Cham is really a kingmaker today.

This first round of WTL is REALLY exciting so far, except for that one 0-6 match we didnt really expect but not really suprised neither.
|
frost hype, did not expect to see that map again
|
Terrans need to play bio on Frost, mech never worked on this map back in the day either against a good Zerg.
|
Did anybody bet on team gp? To me it's the biggest upset I remember. Winning three games against Rouge + Dark combined, just wow. They did not look like don't care about the result...

Was this Cham‘s best day playing StarCraft II ever? I think it may be.

Definitely. The feeling was just like when Memoika beat Maru 2-0 or Hyperion beat Reynor 2-1 even though Cham had considerable MMR rankings in comparison to Rogue and Dark.

With Cham dominating day 3 talk (holyshit what a double upset), I wanna point out byun's "tactic" of always going armour first ending up with a 1-3 bio against a 3-3 toss lol
