Despite being 1 game from the finals, I was not super impressed with TY in the playoffs last year. The win against GuMiho felt more like a GumiThrow than a TY win (GuMiho's reaper control on Catalyst was beyond horrid.) and the series against Zest involved a lot of really bad builds.
That being said, TY stomped Trap 4-0 in the ro16, so I have a hard time imagining him losing to him here. If TY were playing Bunny in the first round, I could see Bunny winning, Trap beating him in the winner's match, then Bunny winning the rematch with TY. Since that's not the case, TY feels pretty close to a lock to make it out.

Bunny and Ragnarok are seriously underrated. TY and Trap are massive favourates, but any of these guys are good enough to make ro16 had they been in differen groups.

Bunny isn't much better at 6-14 but that includes GuMiho, Impact x2, MMA, Trap, and Solar. That's 3 wins over ro16 players and one over someone he'll be competing against to make the ro16.

I'm just imagining Bunny scrambling to plug in his keyboard and mouse and so on while three Afreeca guys loom behind him tapping their watches

Well that snowballed quickly.....4 medivacs and Trap just dies
|
Colossus builds just seem way weaker than gateway or disruptor stuff.
|
how does such a simple attack deal so much damage? Did Trap just forget that Terran might attack you with medivac drops or what
and now Bunny just throws the game away. I don't really understand what I'm watching right now

observer and casters missed that 14 probes died while Bunny and Trap were in that big fight. This is still somehow winnable for Bunny. What a weird game

After that game I really don't think Bunny is underrated. I think he's rated exactly where he should be.
Trap though is somewhat overrated. But he won, and I guess that's all that matters.

That build by trap was a direct counter to what Bunny was doing. Zealot charge is so good against marauder tank and that flank was sick.

okay, I guess I will have to start SCV-scouting again on ladder

Trap winning this group like only a true Protoss would - needing the inferior player to throw hard as hell and then cheesing out the superior player.
|
do terrans even win vs P in normal game? whenever i watch they lose unless they cheese or hit lucky early timing
|
Personally I gotta say, I really don't think TY deserves the #2 spot for Terran after those games. Bunny made it look closer than he did.
|
This build puts on so much pressure at so little cost. 250 minerals and you delay the command center so long, hold the terran back, and get great scouting information. This is going to become standard for a while.

Consistency is what determines such things, and TY isn't showing it. Maybe he just had a bad day, but that wasn't just bad, it was straight up awful.

Gumiho was going to be my choice, actually. He showed the ability to handle herO's Protoss shenanigans that TY conspicuously flunked.
To be fair, Inno also looked much better against Stats than TY did against Trap but that might just be because Stats is more predictable.

To be honest the Bunny-Trap series was a lot more hideous. TY at least just died to cheese in 5 minutes twice. That's disgusting, but you can live with that.
I'm not sure how I'm gonna get over Bunny blowing a 60 supply lead for no reason.

What are you basing it on? Last season of GSL, where TY squeezed past Gumiho? A poor performance this season is enough to make up for one game last season in my book. TY hasn't exactly been playing tons of offline games.

Protoss has options, he could have thrown down an early nexus instead of the second gateway or stargate depending on what he scouts. With perfect defense by the terran, the protoss at most is out 250 minerals later in the game when he has to rebuild his pylon and gateway.
Note: I won't say it's a perfect build against everything, but it puts on a lot of pressure early while still being viable.

I wish they'd bring back more the older maps, the way they did last year. Nostalgia has some value.

Overgrowth (1 base to small for LotV), Whirlwind (iirc it had abyssmal ZvP winrate in Kore at a time) and Daybreak (carriers) were more or less playable, but Bel'shir Vestige for example was a WoL abomination where you couldn't take a 4th base EVER and I imagine Ohana would be the same. No reason to recycle WoL maps when there's tons of better ones out right now...

Weird how Bunny basically conceded air control from the start by going for hellbat drops against.....mech? Maybe he thought it was bio or something.
|
if bunny gets air control and defends well this might well turn into a stupid split-map borefest let's hope TY kills him before that
|
trap's games looked straight up bad, his opponents just looked worse. Garbaggio group.
|
A 3 game TvT series without cheese, weird.
|
I am stunned by the lack of proxy reapers
|
|
The result of Trap and TY was perfectly expected. Don't think anyone expected it to happen like this though.
Also mech won every time. Mechanic > Bionic confirmed.

|
This last series was at least somewhat interesting.

Might have just wanted us all to know. Nice guy TY.

One day of GSL vs the World is at a different venue. How nice.

Same as last year. Well, a different venue (last year was some university) but someplace outside the Afreeca studio.

But I wish Code S could have a nice venue for the finals every now and then.

They did it that once in 2016 and then never again as far as I know I think they used to do it until GOM had to start saving money and then Afreeca tried again but it wasn't worth it. Just feels weird to have all Korean Starcraft take place in 1 studio.
I guess what I'm saying is I miss the Nexon Arena.

Wasn't that because they paired it with the BW thingy?
And yeah, I already mentioned last year's GSL vs the World.

I personally feel T vs P or P vs T is really unhealthy right now. It favors T too strongly if the game gets to mid game on equal footing and it is P favored if protoss gets good harass/early aggression. So the games are just really not exciting to watch if who ever's side your rooting for implements what they need to do.

Well that's because they stopped doing the mini thread thing so others could make them

I thought we had templates pre-made and then we just had to copy and paste the code?

They stopped doing that like two years ago.

Probably because all the new threads are filled with html and liquipedia embeds so the results get updated automatically so regular folk can't use them.

I remember there was some discussion about it at the time but can't recall the reason given. That would make sense though.
