Is there any chance of getting a stream-timer overlay for the full length of the stream and putting the replay stream to an on-the-hour schedule? C'z it's a pain in the arse trying to get onto the replay at the right time, and you can't really tell where it's at without looking at the scores. It'd be nice if I could just go "Ohey, I've only missed 5 minutes..." or "Played 67 minutes? Nuts to this. I'll be back in 53 minutes..."

Essentially that implementation would have to be done on the end of MLG. They save the replays and the rebroadcasts are carbon copies of what was broadcast previously. They'd have to implement something in the backend that would tkae the length of the video and then super-impose a timer over it in the videoplayer. Putting it in the video itself would require a full re-encode of the video which is extremely time consuming. There's also the obvious problem that having a timer like that would act as a spoiler. Additionally, rebroadcasts don't have scheduling functionality as of yet on MLG, once you hit the button, they loop until you tell them to stop.

And, yeah, if you jumped in at 80 minutes, you obviously know it's not likely to be a 4-0 roll, but that's information you'd have without the timer too, just by seeing the players and/or the score being right next-to their names. But more importantly: The scheduling. What the fuck? Why would they even build their system like that? It's not even that hard to code into it. It's literally just putting in a CRON job to reset the replay, or maybe a scripted command line call to their video server to mess with the playlists. Or if they're half-assing their setup, just completely kill the per-channel daemon and restart the whole thing. It's like maybe twenty minutes worth of (competent) coding. o_O

Him, Misty and Brock constitute the entirety of my acknowledgement of the Pokemon cartoons. He lives forever and all is well. Secondly, no. That image is now a representation of my feelings towards MLG's streaming technology. From looking at some of their job vacancies, it looks like they might be using individual Node.js microservers to stream for each channel. So, yeah, they could just have scripts or CRON tasks set up to perpetually kill and reboot the stream at a user-defined interval. They could even probably allow live re-encodes for overlays on the server side without much trouble, but I'm a bit iffy on that, because my knowledge of Node.js as a video server is sketchy at best.

It has been the sole reason why I got interested in Starcraft 2 as an eSport (Only been interested in the lore up until now). In the past when trying to get into StarCraft 2 it has been far too intimidating. Clan Wars on the other hand, with its peculiar maps and 2v2 games felt much more accessible. Since this season started, I have even gone back to watch Season 1, as well as "I suck at StarCraft 2", Sandisk invitational, etc.
