Liquid easily. Jaedong isnt in form, and EG will need him to go big
|
EG not much of a team league power anymore, but I suppose if JD plays really well they could pull it off. Betting on TL though

Your Heart and FATC picks aren't likely to happen. Even though the best strat in this revive-style, all-kill team league is to send your strongest players out first Liquid wants to give playing time to their Eurpoeans. Probably Snute first, with 2 out of Mana, Bunny, Taeja, and TLO with HerO playing for sure

lets hope they save the koreans for last =P

There needs to be some serious hype for this match (and both teams should be trying to hype this match up big time). It's a marketing mistake not to build hype and attention to historic rivalries such as EG-Liquid, and frankly this rivalry has been taken too lightly by the teams in the past few years.

No it hasn't. Jaedong was one of the most accomplished players in 2013, and EG had a solid lineup throughout 2013 (Revival, Oz, aLive) to a point where EG was a stronger team than Liquid.
Even today, EG-Liquid isn't too one-sided by the numbers.

I'd say TL has a huge advantage, especially with an out-of-form Jaedong.
This is also at 11 am on a schoolday, so I doubt Xenocider will be able to play

Jaedong can beat HerO and Taeja. But I think people are underestimating EG's non-Jaedong lineup. Xenocider, Suppy, JYP and Huk have actually been doing decently well in EG's other main teamleague, the ShoutCraft Clan Wars, even beating IM and Startale.

Liquid and EG, the eternal rivalry of blue, both come into the next ATC match looking for revenge. Liquid’s starcraft two squad has been picking apart EG’s since their ill-fated proleague partnership ended. On the other side of the e-sports world EG’s dota 2 team has been punting Liquid’s four man squad out of NA events left and right.
So which team will take this match? Based on recent results you’ll agree that it has to be liquid. TL’s recent acquisitions, Bunny and MaNa, are both strong additions to the team while EG’s most recent player transfers were the loss of their 2013 Korean core, aLive, OZ and Revival.
The rivalry is as strong as ever but Liquid, the perennial team-league favourite, has taken great strides to broaden the gap between themselves and the weakened EG squad. If we examine the support players of both teams we see a clear advantage to Liquid.
TLO and Snute have both improved considerably in the last year and, while Bunny and MaNa haven’t yet caught fire under the liquid banner, it isn’t hard to see why Liquid picked them up. The one weak point in Liquid’s supporting cast is Ret; though he was once a top tier player it has been some time since he has shone regularly getting knocked out of tournaments in the early rounds.
EG’s line up is reduced from last year, their focus has moved more towards the NA scene and away from Korea. Huk is on an upswing after laying dormant for most of 2013 but besides his reinvigorated play the EG NA squad is looking weak: Suppy and Xenocider both have to focus on school and their coming finals while Demuslim has never been able to realize his potential. Maybe ThorZain can bring back his old teamleague form but it has been a long time since he was Mouz’ consistent Korean killer. iNcontroL is, as he always has been, an incredible asset to EG as a team but his actual level of play is no longer the top of the NA scene as it once was. JYP may be the only hope besides Huk for EG’s non-ace players to take games from the strong liquid squad but, besides his excellent run at DHW (defeating MMA, Polt, NaNiwa and Jaedong before being eliminated by Innovation) JYP has not shown the high caliber of play once expected of him.
When it comes to the ace, an even more important factor in this the day of ace revive rules than ever before, Liquid once again seems to come out on top. While TaeJa has not being playing up to his old standards he is still a standard bearer for the liquid team. He is always a threat to any team and has, in recent times, seemed to have Jaedong’s number. If TaeJa should falter HerO is always there to back him up and, as long as he doesn’t have to play starbow, HerO should do fine; though for those rooting for EG there is some hope in his recent 2-0 loss to Losira in the recent GSL Global Championship Qualifier.
EG’s ace has seen a significant downturn in his play lately, most recently being demolished twice by Innovation in EG’s embarrassing first game of the ATC. One can never truly discount the Dong though, he is one of the best rts players of all time and, the only TBLS who seems to have successfully transitioned his individual league reputation into SC2.
With Jaedong’s recent weakness to high level terran play early wins from EG will be crucial to force Liquid’s HerO and his timid PvZ out against Jaedong while hoping for JYP to be able to topple the Terran powerhouse that is Taeja. Similarly for Liquid early wins are crucial to allow their aces to battle out in the match-ups they find most favourable.
With the strength of Liquid’s foreigners seeming to be much greater than that of EG’s and the dual Korean aces of the former being in better form than the latter it seems likely that the boys in slightly lighter blue have the advantage. However, in the all kill format one hot player can make the difference and, as we’ve seen so far this season, an all-kill is very possible for either side. So grab a drink and sit back to watch another great chapter in one of the best esports rivalries unfold. Whoever wins I can promise you one thing, these games will be excellent.

Thanks. I plan on it, I did the Millenium/Axiom one as well since that LR is posted and I'm doing my best to create a coverage team for this team league. Anyone interested in helping out is welcome to PM me.
As soon as I see the LRs for more matches I'll post more previews. Any thoughts or suggestion you, or anyone, has on how I could improve them would be appreciated.

Nice read, thank you. Please keep them coming . Are you part of Waxangel's team? Because he was also looking for people to cover the ATC I think. I am working to create that particular team, yes.
Cool, good luck! Looking good already .

There is no rivalry between Taeja and Jaedong (which is sad).
On a more serious side of things: It'd be great if they would let their foreigners battle it out and go for koreans as ace only - but that won't happen. So I won't be hyped, but hoping for a Taeja allkill

That's the thing with Starcraft though,
Jaedong could all kill TL 5-0 but Taeja could just as possibly all kill EG 5-0
All that matters is who shows up on game day prepared and able to better execute their gameplay and get the momentum.

Jaedong has fallen in the early rounds of Go4SC2 against DMC and KnowMe lately, I doubt he has the consistency to beat Taeja+ double HerO. I think a Jaedong all-kill is about as likely as a Snute all-kill atm, it can happen, but it does not have the same chance as one of the hands of Taeja/HerO.

Man I was really hoping it would've happened by now, but no sign of a proleague partnership. It's important to have teammates close to you and practice/talk with them, have a coach etc. even Jaedong can only do so much alone.
This tweet also worries me a bit.
Of course you get bored after you dropped out of WCS and live alone in Korea without a chance to play anything there. Playing in Proleague would really motivate him and give him short term goals to work for and I really hope EG changes something.

If I had my way JYP and JD would sign on with prime for proleague, bottom dwelling teams make me sad. They'd both get decent playtime and Prime would be improved. It would be a net benefit to both organizations.

I can`t say that I liked oz Alive or Revival very much on EG, since I am a foreigner biased fan.. and wanted to see more stephano, Huk Tzain and Demuslim, but since Stephano retired and only good korean is JD, Tzain is somehow on a break I don`t see EG anymore as a contender in any team leagues they play. This is just sad cause like 1 year ago they were on the top of the foreign scene, together with Liquid. Now I guess Acer, Axiom Mouz and possible more teams are better then EG. Looking forward this year for EG to step up and make a big comback somehow.
Also: sry that i forgot about JYP, but really was not that hard to forgot that guy is still in EG.

I dunno what it does for you, your opponent and you both have equal stalker production except you're giving your opponent the higher stalker count by getting the MSC that only stalls the engagement while both build up their stalker count.

Hopefully Hero. If Taeja has been having trouble with his wrists, it's not a great idea to expect him to win 5 games in a row.

Well, Hero took some probe losses before the overcharge, so that by that time, the worker counts were roughly equal.

Because it's too much of a short term view. Jaedong has been struggling in the past month, but unless it continues, we can't conclude that Jaedong is suddenly a bad player. Now if it's June and Jaedong is still looking rough, then I would probably start reassessing Jaedong's skill

Even with wrists problems, he probably has the best chances. Also if his wrists are in bad shape right now, they would probably send HerO first because it was possible for Taeja to play all 5 games right from the start. That would suggest his wrists are fine at the moment...

Is there any reason to believe his wrists are worse than usual? I'm pretty sure that Taeja can play 5 games in a row, he's a pro player. If he couldn't even do that then he couldn't practice => he couldn't be a pro gamer.

Well, Liquid has lost. There is basically no way they can come back from this. I don't think any of the foreigners are capable of beating 5 of EG's in a row, Hero is too inconsistent, and Taeja's wrists really limit his former endurance.

You have to hand it to JYP though for staying cool throughout the game despite losing the nexus. He did almost everything he could to get back into the game, including sending his small army across the map to buy time to build the third which could have ended disastrously.
Bunny definitely threw, but you can't discredit JYP's resilience in the game, and the great targeting on the vikings in that last battle.

Omg, have Bunny on my ATC. Biggest throw I've seen in a pro game I think. As in playing badly, I mean seriously just running all his scvs into death not even retreating with them when his whole army got FFed away from helping the fight..... Flying the vikings and running the scvs into death without backup twice in a row. Yeah maybe stimming the whole army that is on the wrong side of FFs work at other times but not when you have only 2 medivacs and almost all your scvs making the attack into an all in...... Phew, close one. JYP's gameplan was really good there, forcing overcharge with the first oracle and then hitting the window when blink wasn't done to either kill HerO or kill enough stalkers to make blink useless. Really good defense by HerO though, the probe pulls were clutch.

HerO isn't going to All-Kill, if he comes close, they will just send out JYP to cheese him out. More likely, EG sends out JD or a foreigner next, then if they don't win, they send out JYP again to salvage map score.

Or IdrA vs. MMA in MLG (even though it was a "mental" throw rather than a poor choice of engagement in this case).

it has been changed, you had 2 revives per season, so Taeja could play 3 times in 1 clan war for example

This is one of Incontrol's story I heard him tell once. One time there was a player from Brzail no one had ever heard of, but he knocked out Boxer because he was Boxer's biggest fan of all time and had studied every one of his games. So he created the perfect sniper build to knock out Boxer. Then he was subsequently knocked out by the next person he played.

In all fairness there was a time not too long ago that Taeja wouldn't lose to anything. He clearly isn't where he once was.

I wouldn't put it past him, basically at this point if wins v JD he'll have to face Huk and either JD or JYP; HerO is a better player than each of those three but any of them could beat him. So it is totally possible that HerO will all-kill, I'd give him about a 35% chance of actually doing it though.

So HerO is pretty good at this game.

Good moves by Hero. Though I think he prioritized the cute stuff over the engagement a few too many times.

Well the argument that HerO's is a true all kill is that he would get 5 kills in a row, whereas JYP had a break between his fourth and fifth. They still both lost once tho.

Eh, that's a silly thing to argue about. Basically if 1 player kills all the other players (IE gets 5 wins), we'll consider it an All Kill

Acer is the best team outside of Korea.
How many times has MMA all killed Team Liquid?
|
Perhaps, if you follow SC2 at all, you realize this result isn't surprising. Really, Hero and JYP are very strong players. Outside of maybe Taeja or Jaedong, There isn't a real threat on Liquid or EG that can beat either. Originally, I thought iNcontrol's game was alright. Seriously, he played well and had he not thrown away six Stalkers to a nexus cannon, he might have won. Oh well, Cannot wait for the ace match. Protoss vs Protoss. JYP vs Hero. Winner takes all.

Hm we can call it an all-kill, since it gets complicated otherwise, but for a real all-kill the important thing is killing them all in a row without losing once I think.

Three times so far. Twice in the ATC finals, and then again recently in the Dustin March Madness Showmatch.

Well, that was because Liquid came from the winner's bracket (undefeated in playoffs), while Acer was coming from the Loser's bracket (1 loss in playoffs). So Liquid deserved some sort of advantage, and that was fair.

I agree that they get some sort of advantage, but not so much of an advantage that it would be a challenge to lose. Inno and MMA arent great at TvT at the time? just send Taeja to win both games, Hero vs Nerchio because HerO's PvZ was vicious, throw foreigners to hopefully secure the win. Makes it a bit boring.

AllkillTeamStory sees its first reverse all kill, EG suffers their second defeat at the hands of a single player, the Korean versus foreigner statistics are now at 27-2, JYP made a strong case to be considered EG's ace and we saw our first nine game series. This one was excellent, no doubt about it.

LOL this is the worst game ever.

The HerO they need, not the one they deserve... (or something like that)

DAMNNN reverse all-kill sick HerO. Congrats!!

Very good, wasn't expecting HerO to pull this off, but i'm glad he did. EG now has been all-killed twice.

So, what is this? 1(Lineup)+10(5 wins)-1(1loss)+2(broken 4 map streak)+1(Team win)+2(Closer)=15 points for HerO? That sounds quite nice.

So basically all JD needs to do is do some push ups in a damp prison-hole, climb back up and defeat sOs to get back his mojo.

The only time a Korean protoss has lost to a player who is not also a Korean protoss is when Stardust lost to a foreign 'toss (Jim).
In fact, protoss is 17-7 in the league outside of mirror matchups (five of those losses come from foreigners losing to Koreans, Hartsem to ForGG, Welmu to Leenock X2, Nightend to Leenock, and Jim to Jjakji; the only times protoss have lost to foreigners outside of the mirror match up are foreign tosses losing to foreign players: tefel over Has and Ian over Bling)

That was my math as well. Though, as I pointed out above, five of those toss losses came from foreigners playing Koreans. The real story is the 27-2 record of Koreans against everybody else this season.

Naw man, I think what he's saying is:
JYP killed 4, but it was everyone on teamliquid. So he did all kill teamliquid. Then Hero killed everyone on EG, and that was an all kill not a reverse all kill because they were already all killed. And then JYP played HerO for the hell of it.

wut? how is that an all-kill, unless u mean JYP won whoever Liquid sent to play at least once. But let's say they sent someone else for the ace such as Mana or TLO (unlikely) then it won't be an all-kill. anyways, JYOP played good. :D

I disagree because the ace revive means the ace has to be defeated twice for a reason.
