I want to believe in Mvp still, but I don´t think it is going to be easy for him. Playing from Korea and it is so hard to say if he is in a good shape.

I think Snute is the best player of the group skillwise. With the cross-server lag in mind, things might be very close between Hasu and MVP. MVP`s biggest advantage could be that he is brilliant at designing new builds and with the new patch he could try to catch Hasu offguard with some sneaky widow mine play.

I think Mvp is still best of the players in the group. Snute lost pretty bad against ForGG but also against Happy as well. But with Mvp playing with huge cross server lag, he could get 1st place especially since lag can hurt a lot in a matchup like TvZ.

That is true. Firecake might be the best swarm host user out there!

Bad trade for Mvp, he lost a ton of Hellions for 10 workers. :/

Nope, there is big difference.
Firecake is playing more like Soulkey, getting Mutas, but just initial 10-15 Mutas and then switch to Swarm Hosts and Roaches, Solar just kept getting Mutas and Lings, and died every single game, and I think he lost 2 or 3 to mech playing same style...

There never really was, yes MVP was down 50 supply but he was completely safe. Firecake was never in any danger for anything other than losing a bunch of drones, which he didn't. This is both players doing a gentleman's agreement to duke it out lategame. And it's great.

Soulkey would have won with just pure Mutalisks and SHs as he constantly kept attacking. Not just sitting there doing nothing.

If he can get strong enough air army he can trade very efficient and eventually take another base. But yeah, it is hard to secure a 5th on Frost with mech

And should favor Mvp eventually (I hope so).
Well yes, but Firecake is really comfortable in this kid of situation. Still, MVP has experience and mechanics. Looks pretty good for Firecake so far, but he really needs to go more caster/air heavy soon.

My point was army composition, and Firecake was attacking at the start. Unlike Soulkey, that gets like ~10 Mutas at the start, then switch to Roaches and Swarm Hosts, and then get back to mass Mutas, Solar just keep getting Mutas, Roaches and Lings and just die to mech every time.

I happened to catch the end of that game. Why was Tefel so bm towards Happy?
MVP was tailor made to take out this group. He still has some of the smartest play in terms of unit compositions and using small groups of units in very productive ways.
BCS over ravens are a risk if the Zerg builds 20 + spores and starts the yanks. But on a map like this, looks like BC transition is pretty good because you'd have to make like 50 spores to cover the entire map lol.

Yeah, with PDD Spores really do a lot.
For every raven they make, add 12 more spores. This map is big enough.
Which doesn't make any sense, because you can't have 70 Spores in one place, but you can have 10-20 Ravens + 10-20 BCs in one place.
The point isn't to win a fight. It's to win by attrition. Imagine you are Catz or Scarett and have made about 120 spores. In the middle of that you have 5-6 vipers to pul out units to die on eby one and 12 infestors to fungal anything that clumps up. That's how you win. Terran will take about 2 hours to clear through all of that shit. I can't name a Terran player that won' fuck up at some point and lose things to either hook or fungal.
These floating buildings are like some mass Terran nomadic migration lol. Like the opening in one of those SC single player missions where you have your buildings come in from off screen and land then u start a base :D

Nah, we're probably just on the same wave length when it comes to strategy.
Trying to fight this with mutas is suicide, mass spore and turtle is how you win. This army cannot be engaged, you have to put the terran into a position where he cannot force the engagement at all.

Problem is due to the armor the bounce attack of the muta is fairly useless, and so would infested terrans be. If he would have had mass corruptors it would have looked completely different, but they can't kill landed buildings (still he had lings for it, so a better idea). Add some vipers, and you can pull them in one at a time. Sure everytime you pull one, a viper gets yamatod, but that is not a good trade for terran.

FireCake is known for his BM. He played with ToD or Dayshi in a custom game, just a game, nothing real big. FireCake was losing the game, he required a pause, he was afk during 20 minuts and he never came back during the game.

They should just remove Zerg as playable race from the EU server for the good of the game. It must be in the genes to turtle. All these super turtley Zerg styles always come out from the EU server.

Yeah but neither ToD or Dayshi are kings.

You've never listened to Tasteless have you?
I have, and I love Tastosis. The things they talk about is actually funny, rather than trying to be a "stand up comedian", like others. Not mentioning any names.

If you're gonna compare banter you should kinda bear in mind that people have different tastes in humor.

Man that build is so hard to stop if the Zerg doesn't scout the second factory. Terran can do any number of things off the 3 reaper + 6 hellion opener. If the Zerg doesn't scout and prepare for which they can instantly die like we just saw.

The build Mvp did isn't really "going mech." Remember Fantasy did something similar where he opened factory then reverted to Barracks play. Simply getting BFH and two factories isn't an assurance the Terran is going mech these days.

Thats the problem with Frost and Alterzim as zerg. If you don't get lucky and scout enemy base with first overlord you won't get second overlord in position to scout like in 2 player maps.

There is also one more thing. The ramp from which you enter the main (and natural) is very small so terran really shouldn't be able to get in with the helions. I think one or two queens on hold position block the ramp. So Firecake probably didn't expect such mass BF helion play from Mvp on Alterzim.

I am more and more beginning to suspect Stephano's entire purpose in Sc2 is now to troll protoss players. Watching him win from 2 bases vs 4 on Yeonsou in a 75 minute game was hilarious. The occasional BM is pretty good too.

Prob specify the structures. In all of WoL 11/11 meant two proxy rax on 11. Since 11/11 3reaper is a meta thing I don't know if it'll last long enough to become the HOTS standard for what 11/11 means.

Nope. He used most of his lings to counter attack. The plan was good as he already had a spine and a spore but the spine was slightly late to burrow and he lost two queens. Then lings can't do shit and it's the panic.

He is playing from Korea with massive lag and mech is less affected by that than playing bio style. Also, Mvp was a meching guy vs. zerg even in WoL.

Thats my point. Mvp isn't a foreigner Terran who has one playstyle and forces it down the throat of every map. These Korean Terrans seem just as good at bio as they are at mech.

To be fair that is because Firecake opened very heavy speedling. Losing the items Mvp lost sucks but isn't really a mistake. It wasn't from an overextension was mostly just good play by Firecake to trap them. The implied eco damage from that many lings is basically worth what Mvp lost.

Mvp's like oh you're going for swarmhosts, i have exactly 45 seconds to move into your third, position my army perfectly and kill your hosts before there's to many of them. well, let's go then. i'll also get double upgrades and a raven transition going in the back in case this doesn't win. lol jk of course it wins.
@Niko : ToD answered me about the French stream. ToD asked them to stream RO32 but he knew that there were no French stream. He was allowed by ESL to stream it. But two hours before the first group someone, according to ToD it is maybe Dailymotion, who told to ESL that they don't want ToD to stream it. ESL decided to agree with Dailymotion and that's why we don't have a French stream.
About Dailymotion, it's not 100 % sure, ToD himself could not confirm it.
it's not too surprising though with the way mech has been looking pretty solid lately. if mech was viable in pvt Mvp would be a really big threat since it really suits his style of play

And you could trade the other three games for games played against any number of players (there are thousands of players in Masters) and it wouldn't look different?

I was just about to say that. He just brings out the worst out of his opponents somehow. You can't say Innovation played like a mid master terran when Mvp came back from a huge worker deficit. Or his finals against Squirtle.. or all his games against Nestea even when Nestea was still considered top zerg etc.

twitch working fine for me as well... I am just glad it worked great for Mvp games, now I dont care that much although I am cheering for Snute to advance

Let them doubt, let them doubt the king..
The more you doubt him, the stronger his comeback.
would you liquibet Mvp in a finals or would you pick against him so he would win?
Personally I almost always liquibet against IM and IM players. I am very superstitious when it comes to these things. It costs me some points, but I have to do it.

firecake stayed on 3 bases vs 3 of hasu and kept massing hydra roach ling to counter attack. hasu eventually got colossi and established superior economy to win in a 30 minutes long game of hit and run

Yeah, Alterzim is ok, but Yaonsu... I can't wait for the day when that map will get removed.

The correct way is to sac the third, stack spines at the natural, go mass lings with 2x evo and spam queens. It still probably would not have been enough consider the map is a pile of steaming shit, but that is the generally accepted response for zerg to 2base all ins.

It's a concession to broken areas of gameplay, basically saying we can't make ZvP late game work because of deathballs and mass SH, so we'll just make a map that is so stupidly big and open so you can't use SH effectively. It's enabling bad parts of the game by designing boring and inflexible maps around them.

He started to do what he does best and just kept defending, while Firecake stayed on roach/hydra and tried to kill him on 3 bases. By the time he got a 4th Hasu go Colossi out, then Firecake got Vipers and had the game won but didn't kill the third after killing the colossi, so Hasu go HTs out too and killed Firecake's 4th with dts and it was over from there. Nice defense with blinks and feedbacks from Hasu, but Firecake kinda threw the game.

Nothing. Much better to just be Soulkey and win out right against 2 base all ins.
Yeonsu is just terrible map for ZvP. You dont have to be an expert to realize that. But afaik, WCS EU and AM have vetos so I am not sure why zergs dont veto that map...

The 2-2 lings and infestors which will shit all over the gateway/immortal army. It's perfecty ok for zerg to be a little behind protoss with your third when you go this build because your tech and upgrades are miles ahead. I'm still chuckling at some game where Scarlett did this and ended up fighting 0-0 stalkers with 2-2 adrenal lings, it was kind of funny.
But as said, the map may have been a big factor in this as well.

Except Zest on every map with everyone.
That was quite a burn right there, hehe. You're mean. But Zest just got lucky and it won't repeat, and I expect SKT1 to 3-0 KT next time the meet.
I've never ever seen a protoss player split his sentries when facing fungal. You would think that they could, if only they were used to microing their units.
Why do Zerg's always do that? FF go down and they keep trying to run their units/army passed them and then run away once 30% or more of the army is passed and then get trapped by the next 2 FF and lose all those units... It's just baffling to me. Hasuobs wasted like 5 FF but Snute tried to keep run passed them for some reason just getting more and more units trapped. I just don't get it and I don't think I ever will.

To be honest, casters usually aren't microed that way. Not saying that they shouldn't, but I barely saw anyone microing their casters apart from knowing to land good spells and to back off when needed.

Tbh, I feel like Hasuobs wouldn't even be competitive if the game had limited unit selection. Maybe it's a silly thought, but he's so calculated with his army control that I don't think he would cope well with more twitchy play where you have to micro a lot of units individually very quickly.
On March 05 2014 05:19 Wertheron wrote: God an entertaining ZvP... is it possible ?
Honestly it's mostly because Snute is just way better than Hasu. He can do this because his mechanics and control allow him to stay in Hasu's face and trade decently. Against a really good defensive toss all that will accomplish is to get all your units stuck in FF and killed.
Letting Snute take 4 bases and macro freely after losing your third twice is not going to work.

It's not like he won national tournaments in a game revolving around individually microed units!

You have to micro Templars a lot
And yet again, most of the pros still got their Templars in one group, barely any of them spreads them. I know you have to micro them back and forth so they don't get sniped, same as Vipers and Infestors, but no they don't really spread them so they don't get caught by AoE.
And that is what that guy was talking about, majority of players just don't spread their spell casters.

Nah I don't think so. There was limited unit selection in wc3 too. And if it was like this he would have practiced this.

Hasu's micro is not bad, but his multitasking and mechanics are not on the level of Snute's. Snute would be well advised to open safely here and go mutas if Hasu does not go SG.

Wasn't Hasu a WC3 player or something?
Yes, but people are prizing "WC3's micro" way too much, since microing in WC3 and army control wasn't too hard, it was definitely easier than in SCBW, especially because WC3 is a lot slower game.

I've never watched or played any significant amount of WC3, but surely the description "more twitchy play where you have to micro a lot of units individually very quickly" fits WC3?

Do you know anything about WC3? The 20 army supply in WC3 does not strain the same way 140 army supply in SC2 would. And the micro is more about timing, precision and control than speed.
Zerg plays this kind of like BW mech, an almost unbreakable defensive bastion and then launch ling raiding parties all over the map, analogous to vulture harass, kind of.

If you put quickly under " ", then yes, since units had between 300 and 1300 HP, and do like 30-70 dmg while game speed is significantly slower than BW, let alone SC2, so, yeah... WC3 emphasized Hero control and strategies resolving around certain heroes a lot more than unit control and macro.
Also, this is coming from the guy that played WC3 a lot more than SCBW.

Let me explain before I get a warning for balance whine: basically, Snute went allin on that. Swarm Host allin with 4k gas banked, that's how it feels. Dunno if I like the meta so far.
The concept of infinite free units in a RTS is really weird. Snute did use the unit really well, maybe perfectly. I just don't like the design of it and don't understand how it made its way into the game.

Not at all, he was taking a fifth and gradually secured map control. Zerg can sit on 4 bases for a loooong time with this army comp, Snute was never in danger of mining out or blowing his bank in this game. He was ahead and in full control the whole game. That was pretty much as immaculate as a SH game will look.

Maybe because free units exist since Warcraft 1 and kept on sticking around in Blizzard games. Usually they have a drawback though, but the weakspot of swarmhosts is easy to negate if you are pretty good in general. Need to make spines and spores slower then units even on creep, so the static defense has to pull back before everything is burning and suddenly swarmhosts aren't as problematic anymore, or Broodlords or Infested Terrans. And you don't need an super range unit that one shots them x3.

All unit interactions should obey the second law of thermodynamics. *nods*
Anyone else think that other tournaments besides the GSL should give out pins? Right now Mvp is the only one that has sufficient number of pins to look good on the uniform. It just looks odd when a person only has 1 pin on his uniform. It'd be cool so see other players like Polt and Taeja have pins to wear on their uniform.

Where did you watch the vods? I've been looking for the last couple of hours, but can't quite locate it. If you could link it, I would very much appreciate it yo.

If he can somehow find an answer to protoss with mech or something I can see him winning EU now that it's offline.
Mvp showing up in Europe and winning against protoss with mech would be the greatest thing ever. Maybe it is possible to play some kind of mech+WM combo now with better mines.
