Probably because you get some free hits while trying to do so, zerg units don't have much range. In this case it would maybe have been worse.

i think the position was already too cemented for symbol. i wanna say that soo actually wasn't able to micro past symbol's roaches, but maybe he could have sent a few roaches to the low ground and hit the nydus from behind?

It was in a corner so the only way to get it is to send an overlord and have all your roaches run all the way around the cliff to kill it. In that time, Symbol would have made another one, killed your roach warren, your lair, your queens and some drones.

He couldn't get in range of it because symbol's forces were blocking the path, if he tried to force himself in there around the units by the time he killed the nydus he would have 0 roaches left and that would just be gg with symbol using the roaches currently in the main + rallying more to the natural or even rebuilding the nydus.
