That doesn't even make sense from a Brood War player.
Bisu wins ClubDay MSL, then loses in the next group stage to Savior and Zero. Luxury wins LostSaga MSL, then loses in the next group stage to Effort and Hwasin. Calm wins Avalon MSL, then loses in the next group stage to Best and Light. Flash wins BigFile MSL, then loses in the next group stage to Ssak and Classic. July wins Ever2008 OSL, then loses in the next group stages to Flash and Much. Effort wins Korean Air 1 OSL, then loses in the next group stages to Action and Leta. Flash wins Korean Air 2 OSL, then loses in the next group stages to Kal and Hyuk.
And that's just since I started watching pro Brood War. Does that show how volatile Brood War is and that there's no way to use mechanical skill to distinguish yourself from everyone else?

Nah. There are skill differences but it's just SC2 is a too random game. A high level player will definitely keep coming back (see MVP for example) but it's just very unlikely the player manages to win or make it to the Ro4 or higher 2 consecutive times.
I posted this before but it has to do with how one or two mistakes can easily cost you the game.
Here's a post I made in another topic.
WC3 and BW have much more consistency than SC2 because they're more gradual games. Hopefully HotS can help with this since the new units make it less about high damaging clumping AoE DPS units and more about spreading them out (Tempest, Swarm Hosts, Widow Mines, etc).

With the focus he's puting on HotS since december, he's gonna be a monster after march Leenock deserved the title more then jjakji You seem to have missed the part where Jjakji demonstrated an exceptional understanding of various timings and anti-timings that he used to pick apart Leenock's business-as-usual approach. Leenock got outplayed.

Agreed. The finals was definitely epic and it really showed Jjakji's exceptional preparation against Leenock.
Sadly he got hit by the GSL curse after.
But also to add onto my previous point about SC2 being more volatile and more random, this totally didn't happen in BW or WC3.
BW had Fantasy and JangBi OSL finals twice in a row.
Fantasy actually made it to the OSL finals three times in a row!
Flash made it to the finals of the OSL numerous times. Basically, same things happens in BW.
Now, SC2 has a skill difference, and it shows (MVP for example) but it's more random. The chance of staying at the top is possible but the chance at going back to back finals is harder in SC2 due to how easy it is to lose or win games due to mistakes.
Due to the Fog of War mechanics in RTS game, randomness like this is a given. However, with SC2, everything is much all or nothing compared to BW or WC3.
So while Jjakji won and fell off shortly after, due to SC2 randomness, it doesn't tell the whole story.
Also an important thing to consider about Jjjakji is his training environment. NSHoSeo is definitely not one of the top end teams. They may not have the best coaches (or rather, there may be less dedicated coaches helping the players) or environment to practice compared to other teams.

The only surprise here is that Huk even won a game.

Which is caused by a lower skill ceiling, burst macro mechanics, and the disincentive to expand.

If you watched the match you should not be surprised. Sniper's mistake big time; sniper stopped huk's 8 gate all-in and was on 3 bases vs Huk's 2. Then for some strange reason Sniper decides to attack Huk's army by coming down the ramp. He totally underestimated Huk. If he just played it out regularly from that point with infester tech, Sniper would win 100 percent.

Could you explain why the competition in SC2 is so intense? Why one or several players can't dominate the scene?
And do you think that in BW (Insanely popular in Korea with many progamers playing this game) competion was low?

My theory is that the only reason Sniper lost is because someone told him that being a repeat GSL champion could be fun and he decided that he was having none of that.
