No, he did not play like an amateur, not even recently. Anybody who is saying something like that is either ignorant or stupid. Just a month ago he won 18000 dollars in a tournament, taking second place behind Rain.
Can't wait to see what new stuff Flash has come up with this time around. Last few tournaments there has been a MAJOR increase in his skill in between games and he's also shown us some pretty cool stuff (sim-city for example).
This is going to be a great match. Pretty ambivalent about who to root for though. On one hand, I want DRG to show us his amazing form from last year but I also want to see how much Flash has progressed in SC2.

Whatever, that's a nice surprise right now.
I for one am super burned out from IPL5/GSL and wouldn't be watching if not for who these players are. It's from replays for a small online tourney, eh.
I was afraid that Flash would be too much of a lolturtlenoob in this TvZ and die to a 5-base Zerg, but his push was devastating and his macro was impeccable.

Small downside is he does this build basically every TvZ.

his push was devastating because DRG stuck to his 2011 style of Zerg, even built 5 random mutas when he should have gone full infestor and a billion banelings.

Yeah. Either he turtles too hard and gets crushed by the Zerg, or he manages to avoid dying and crushes the Zerg with sheer macro and positioning.

DRG was stuck on three bases for awhile because of Flash's hellion/banshee pressure, he didn't have the gas to go straight to infestor/baneling. The mutas were a bad investment but only because DRG did nothing with them.

DRG is clever. By making these games close and interesting he is increasing interest in SC2. Finally, pros realize they are entertainers first and foremost.
That was a really cool double wall fro flash. I think once DRG saw the thors he should have just turned around. That defense just looked completely unbreakable and now flash is in a great position

These aren't early gg's from DRG - he keeps ending up horribly far behind. So far behind that the only way for him to win is for his opponent to make gross unforced errors... and his opponent is Flash, so that's not going to happen.

I guess he's completely deflated from the early baneling bust at Flash's natural. And after failing to kill 3rd of Flash, and saw the huge army, he's frustrated, don't want to fight in that game.

Online tournament, what do you want?
You are comparing online small tournament to offline huge tournament.

Yeah I'd say the casting is probably the least enjoyable part of this series. These guys just seem a little stiff to me when it comes to the filler moments that really make the difference between good casting and great casting. Good analysis by axslav though.

More like pandering. No reason to play ling/bling/muta when infestors are so far and away better at every stage of the game.
I think that while in general infestors are a better choice (dat lategame) the ling/bling/muta style allows for a lot more aggression, to the extent that you can straight up kill your opponent, in the midgame. While BL/infestor is a strong combo I think Flash's skill at lategame macro and large army control is a bit too dangerous to go up against. In this case a style that is going to catch him off guard and kill him before those advantages can snowball is preferable.

Flash is absolutely the best Terran in the world right now. I don't even see how anyone can debate it now: best control, best macro (all races), best builds, best sim city, best everything.

I like Polt but he plays like 2 builds and has poor macro compared to Flash. Flash is a more complete player. He'd have gotten just as far in IPL had he played. I'm not trying to insight anger from people but just look at his play: he's so good already.

Apparently previous foreign tournaments are relevant to now? Not denying Flash is playing incredibly well recently, but best Terran? That is just far too ridiculous to claim now.

Seriously? He's pretty good but his inexperience is still quite evident. And there's these guys called Polt, Ryung, Bomber, Bogus, Taeja and MVP who might take issue with that.
If he made mutas Flash would just make like 3 Thors and hard counter them. DRG had lost that, at most he'd kill a couple tanks then die a few minutes later.
DRG didn't have enough minerals to make more than 4-5 mutas. He had under 300 minerals and gas the whole time so he just wanted to switch straight to BLs to save his ass in a longer run.
Just so all of you know, muta transition doesn't work because he can make 4 thors at once... effort tried this against flash once and got destroyed lol

I forgot Flash would a-move into a few Mutas with his tanks and watch his army die. He'd have just pulled back in his base (turrets) for a minute and pumped out Thors and won much easier than in the game. It's been tried before and its not going to work. Flash's base defense and reaction time to air attacks is way way too fast.

I love when low lvl players are asking why a player didn't build X units without having any idea why it's not always possible to transition to whatever the hell you want.
and assuming that the other player would have reacted the same way, flash isnt dumb, he isnt gonna get countered by muta
I am not trying to bust anyone's ball here but it looks like MLG messed up again and the Korean PlayXP community knows about the complete results of this event. It is a shame that an organization like MLG can not even prevent results from leaking out even before its actual broadcasting.

Do you mean results of whole tournament, like who's the champion, or just this series between DRG and Flash?

Yea pretty sure it's the whole tournament. Out of curiosity I went to check out the thread too with the help of Google Translate. Good thing my memory is pretty failz. Also, it's not like I'd be able to watch most of the matches hahaha
Edit: I can't read Korean though, and it could be the guy's predictions for all I know, but from what styleworks said and how it writes the correct results for today's game, *shrugs*

GG MLG.
Wow fuck! Why did I click that spoiler >< For some reason I thought they only spoiled the first round, didn't know the whole thing had already been played out. Oh well.. guess I won't be watching the rest of it now. DO NOT CLICK THAT UNLESS YOU WANT TO KNOW THE RESULTS OF THE WHOLE TOURNAMENT.

Yea. I don't quite understand why people do this. It's one thing to spoil a tournament that's been played and broadcast, but this just feels kinda thoughtless.
Edit: Apparently he actually translated and made it more viewable. Oh well.
Are those results or predictions? The first page of this thread states that the finals will be played on the 20th of December, is the tournament really finished?

So those are results not predictions? If so... GG MLG Tournament of Champions.

Sick I had to show up just in time for teh ill spoilers, I knew I shouldve left as soon as I saw the spoiler talk starting. Damn you silent_owl come on now. Sad ass face for my 100th post
Disappointing the results got spoiled. Really hope blizzard adds a option to hide all match history for HOTS, and I hope MLG starts using cloaked maps for Korea.

Especially game 2 he blundered an attack that could have done some real damage. He broke through into the natural and his banelings went up the ramp and died to Hellions instead of going into the over-saturated mineral line. With the amount of banelings he had he could have completely destroyed Flashes eco.

It was the whole tourney. I myself was pretty disappointed after reading PlayXP sources, too. I didn't go into details just cuz ppl might flame me for spoiling the whole thing for them. As far as PlayXP is concerned, they said that someone found the details of this tourney through match history for all players. Oh well...

It's always sad when results get leaked but TSL had cloaked maps so dunno why MLG's can't be. The feature you're talking about is allready supposed to be added to hots.

MLG should start using cloaked maps for every region. There's no excuse not to use them for online events where they broadcast from replays days or weeks later. Same goes for IPL/NASL/everyone else, really. If results get spoiled because they don't use cloaked maps, it's their own fucking fault.
For example, it happens for just about every IPL event, whether it's Fight Club or their qualifiers for events (team leagues are more difficult to look up) and they just don't give a fuck. I don't get it.

I agree they should use cloaked maps but I'm also glad that blizz are adding a option to turn off map history, sometime's players pick the wrong map or tournaments are lazy and don't use cloaked maps and that would fix a lot of that.
