To each his own, I guess. how about this, hero dominated the entire tournament while grubby struggled his way into the finals.
That I agree with. Hero was much more convincing (at least on paper, didn't see many of his games), and I'd never put money on Grubby where he's at right now. But just the fact that he struggled all the way to the finals gives one hope.

You kind of missed mentioning this kid named Taeja when you listed Hero's opponents, I think he is an ok player. And by ok I mean that I don't think Grubby would have taken a single game off of Taeja.
Honestly though neither tournament really stacks up to an MLG or IPL so w/e.

The grubby hype train on reddit is making me a bit ill (saying it was the best multitasking they have ever seen in sc2) but the games were very fun to watch and Grubby played better than ever. Still don't consider him a Naniwa-Stephano level player yet but give him some more time and he will be. He's very dedicated and has a great mindset.

And you misunderstood him, he is trying to tell you that Sting is very good even among koreans and not just a B-teamer any more. So the gap is not as big as you make it sound (for a very small amount of foreigners). Pretty sure he was still a B-teamer when he was NSHoseo.

Funny thing is, sting is still a relative no-namer. He's obviously good, but I doubt anyone would put him as a top 10 terran in the world, or in the top 50 best players in the world. This IEM was a relatively weak tournament and he just happened to be the korean destined to win it lol
He did play solid though, other than his retarded defense on cloud kingdom. The rest of his decision making was great.

Grubby is in the top-10 bracket of European protoss, no more, no less. He did well this weekend, but he is no better than the likes of Titan, Fraer, Monchi, BabyKnight, Mana, Naniwa & Sase.

Well yes he was, although they still used him a lot in IPTL, but not any more. He left NSH on august 10th and has beaten a lot of to players since then. What was Life before he started to wreak havoc in GSTL?

we can theorize about how good Sting actually is, or we can watch him take on the best players in the world in only 4 more days.

it's funny how ppl try to downtalk grubby's performance of today
yes he is not as good as hero, but on a good day he can be and he showed it today/yesterday vs really good opponents

all those 3-2's, poor kid must be tired

I can agree with this. Grubby can show moments of absolute brilliance (see CK game).
On the other hand, he can appear incredibly amateur (see Entombed - losing 4 immortals and a bunch of sentries - top 3 ways to give a won game away).

fixed. Btw that makes him top5.

Grubby vs Slivko's game 4 was so good that even the casters were dumbfounded. From the first person screen on site, Grubby really was all over the map. A true treat to watch!!

Probably yes :D. What I meant was he was not sombody you would have mentioned if you had to name some good koreans. My point is that Sting is not a weak korean and his win does not prove that the gap between foreigners and koreans is huge because any noname/b-teamer can win vs one of the best foreigners. Well whatever no need to get to absorbed in this, I should just stop .

Yeah, he is very good at thinking on his feet, but less impressive in his ability to grind out straight up macro-games.

I actually think that group of players (and you could certainly add more, hasu, welmu, socke etc.) are all very talented, so it is by no means an effort to diminish Grubby's accomplishment. It was a good weekend for European players overall, I think. Good games shown and they pressed the Korean players to the limit (except for Hero who was in a league of his own at DH).

I don't think people are trying to down play Grubby at all. It is more a reply to all the 'the best multitasking ever', 'THIS is how you win vs infestor/broodlord', "Grubby redefining PvZ', 'Grubby is Code S level' just base on 1 game.
