I ran my Elo-based probability script a few times again. Based on the ratings, Sniper is an overwhelming favourite to win, and in the other matches, the ESF players are favoured by about 55-45. (Is Shy really that good?)

Most likely winner: GuMiho (54.308%) Most likely outcome: Trap 0-2 GuMiho (27.958%)
Hm. I will check this out again after the games. I wonder how accurate this could be ^.^
I tried it with the GSL semis, and it flunked both tests. XD
Though to be honest, the only thing you should read from those numbers is that Sniper will likely win, and the other matches are essentially open (which doesn't mean that they will be close).

So we should maybe call it the 'statistical jinx'? :D Thank you for posting it though. I like to read those statistics before the game so please keep them coming

Lost his pashun.
Can't see Sirius beating Sniper, Sniper seems to be eternally underrated and has shown that especially in ZvZ he is not to be messed with. Shy vs Seed i predict being very one sided as well, even though it's still PvP and anything can happen...Shy has also proven himself to be quite competent so i dunno if it's going to be as much of a romp for Seed as i predict it to be.
Bogus vs Happy should be fun, and i do think Bogus should win that, but it's going to be close. Gumiho vs Trap is a difficult one, i really like Trap but i like Gumiho even more, so i'm just going to hope that it's a great series and not try and predict that outcome >_<
There was Infinite today, and a year old at that? Odd, kinda goes against what has been the standard for a while now. Not that I mind, I really wish we could go back to playing Fiction every single day.

It just occurred to me how incredibly formulaic almost every k-pop music video is. You can almost interchange them and you wouldn't notice the difference.

Absolutely, but to be fair..Sniper is probably the first Really hard opponent he has faced so far. Salmosa isn't that great and MMA looked pretty bad as well, so Sniper is really going to be his first proper test.

That's some bad play by Seed. Why go out when you just expanded, and your opponent has already capitalized on the expansion for a while? Should just swallow the disadvantage and turtle for late game.

Judging by their hands during warm-ups, it seems these Kespa pros are now using the standard SC2 hotkeys instead of using the BW hotkeys like ForGG and other ex-BW players who switched over just a little earlier.
shy improves to 14-2 in televised Korean SC2 matches
edit: agree with Fionn 100%, but I also think BaBy is gonna be really good.

Interesting. I thought it was over when he let Seed up. Having two immortals apparently is enough. Nice econ advantage by sHy because of the late gate. I think if Seed just went for a straight-up 4 gate, he would've won straight away.

Proxy pylon while clearing enough pop space from the zealot harrass (with Seed's Zealots still there defending, way out of position), with the instant spawn at the proxy to change enough Colossus shots so that sOs' front wasn't dying.
That's really the difficult part of PvP once you're maxed, imo. Not enough cannons/defense, and you get stretched even a little bit, and it's super difficult to allocate units. It sort of reminds me of early PvP where it was 4gate vs 4gate where a few units made all the difference in the world. But now, it's late game.

The top Kespa players now in SC2(Shy,Sun and Roro) aren't just good at mirrors.
They are insanely good in late-game. Probably BW experience since games averagely goes much longer on BW games.

Kespa PvP is particularly impressive. They often seem to have better lategame compositions, i.e. light on zealots, heavy on immortal+archon.
Can't believe Seed giving that game away like that.... even if he was a tiny bit behind he still donated it to him when he completely bunched his units while in range... hell you guys already know all about it we've seen pvp end that way a million times. Just really aggravating when our last season champ gets knocked out 2-0 by some random kespa kid who has this blank stare and smug smile. Damnit Seed.... you make me love you with all your badass heart on your sleeve attitudes and then you go and lose to this guy. BLAH!
This song is quite possibly the best song ever to be played during GSL. Even if I was still laying down this song is good for passing the time, some songs just feel like you're waiting but that ones a jam.
---do not get to close to the water if you do not wanna get wet YAAAAAAAAAAH
Edit: remember when I talked bout songs that just feel like you're waiting for them to end...... yeah......

hence one time thing, as of now there are players better than him, but seed is still better than nestea, a 3 time champion, and MMA, a 2 time champion. Past results dont mean much at how good the person is currently....
But there is only 1 way to go after you win a GSL...

Kespa PvP is particularly impressive. They often seem to have better lategame compositions, i.e. light on zealots, heavy on immortal+archon.
Mirrors tend to depend much more heavily on fundamentals. When you and your opponent are making the same units, it all comes down to how fast you make them and how you use them.

This. These kespa pros have the basics down to pat hence the mirror wins. I remember the Roro win last night, he was just sending out the infested Terrans faster and dancing around more actively. I think sHy did the same. Was just on point with his scouting and denied Seed scouting on his end and was more active around the map allowing him favorable engagements against Seed.

He also beat Creator and lost to HerO (who on paper probably was the weakest in PvP out of the 3). PvP is just a very volatile matchup where just slight differences can snowball.

Well it boils down who can flipped the coin better.
Sun seems to be the best at flipping coin winning WCS Asia 12-1.
Well, two elephants fell yesterday (much to my dismay) but maybe it'll be good for us today.
Happy to see that the elephants are going to make an invasion in Code S, not just because I'm a Kespa fan but I think this'll force the eSF players to up their game raising the level of competition in Korea. Foreigners better watch out because once practice gets even more serious in KR, they're gonna have to change their somewhat relaxed approach to the game.

Talk about an easy bracket for Rain as well. He got basically the easiest bracket. He won the thing, so at least he doesn't have to prove anything, but he got 3 straight foreigners to reach the qualification point for the final WCS. :/ Anyone in his spot would've qualified, now he went beyond that so he proved to be the best PvP player in the tournament hands down, but meh, I just wish someone else had gotten that free seed. :p

I think so too but foreigners don't seem to think it. NightEnd's recent interview has him saying that Koreans are none different than Europeans. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt now (and I'm just being respectful to the EU WC3 pros) but in time both eSF and Kespa will up their games and get even more serious in their practice and I believe that as the Kespa pros have shown, having good fundamentals is not as irrelevant in the pro scene as other people think.
Rain and Roro have been in games wherein they've lost the build order battle but come back in the end by having better mechanics, scouting and taking favorable engagements. Maybe mechanics matter a little more than people have realized. Before the Kespa pros came, people talked about how most eSF and top EU pros had the absolute best mechanics you could have in SC2. Well, apparently, that's not true.

There will probably always be a few foreigners with raw talent who can perform amazing at times but you are right, koreans will dominate even harder. Our most professional foreigner team is arguably EG and look and the progress of them and the culture compared to professional esports culture in korean teams. But it will still be fun when the upsets do happen and they will for sure, just not very often.

It's kinda hard to explain. Rain got behind from parting's opener pretty badly and it looked like he was going to be SOL for the rest of the game. He then pushed out with a bunch of blink stalkers and 2 colossi, blinked on top of some immortals which he basically got for free, and then just barged into partings natural where with some of the most amazing control as far as blink stalkers and colossus i've ever seen he absolutely dismantled parting as if what happened 3 minutes ago was no big deal. I still get confused just thinking about it, and Grubby and Artosis couldn't believe what they were watching too :p
I really liked that marine formation blocking the ramp, each marine perfectly placed. I know it's cliche to say this, but it really did remind me of BW.

Damn. If Happy would have seen the SCVs in time and pulled all the SCVs at the natural to tank damage he would have held it. Nice timing by Bogus, that game was still much closer than it looked.
Pretty sure this is Bogus' SC2 account. 62% win rate. 2nd overall. One of the highest win rates on ladder behind Life's crazy 70% win ratio.
That was a sick timing.
Maybe he's going to be the MVP of 2013? Amazing ladder record but lacklustre performance in 2010, and then suddenly first season of 2011 he dominates everyone :p

I don't think even a SCV pull could have save him. Happy committed a lot to the banshee and blue flame and they both were not in the fight. It would have been closer but Happy would have still lost.
He also had Raven/vikings... pdds don't do much vs marines. Happy needed like 2 fact tanks to hold that timing.

Exactly. These things are easy to use in a situation like this, so it's a great idea, but you won't get very far if you can't play any other way, as we've seen so many times before. It's cool to watch, but it's not something that has longevity.

Everyone who answers with "cheese" is just bitter, no matter what side you´re rooting for. A win is a win and cheese is part of the game.

Your mom's a fallacy. :p Reading comprehension please. I didn't say Bogus could not play any other way. I said tactics like these work in a situation like this, but for his longevity in Code S, he will have to rely on other skills. I didn't say he lacked those skills.

Its great cheese, but I dunno if this demonstrates some kind of advanced metagame.
This guy has beat Flash a few times in BW in long games. I'd say his RTS metagame is pretty good.
Or he could have studied Happy and noticed how happy is a very standard macro player who is very predictable and doesnt scout much. The explanation doesnt have to be harder than that.

In general Kespa players cheese as a way to "mix things up" rather than as a long term strategy. If anything, Kespa players are a little too conservative in their play during BW era even when playing superior opponents. And Bogus is certainly in the camp of being a macro player throughout his BW days. If anything, Happy's lack of scouting suggested he guessed at Bogus being a macro player. Which quite frankly isn't a bad guess as far as odds go. But in this case it was an epic fail.

Don't most players do this? Almost by definition, cheese fails when your opponent expects it. So not sure how cheese can be a long term strategy. Sure, some players do cheese more than others, but you can't just rely on it.
I have to say I agree completely with Khaldor. The results are skewed, and it's too early to have a conclusion on Intrigue's argument. I think in the end, things will be fairly even between the two groups of players, while I think BW results/skill won't neccesarily translate to SC2 skills.

Pretty nice game there from Gumiho. A few mix-ups with his multi-task (because he was fighting on three fronts at once) but I really like how persistent he was pushing from all sides.
Those banshees ripped apart Trap's only chance to stabilize on 3 base. The drop and the initial attack was held, but there wasnt any answer to the banshees, as they ranked up 20+ kills. Sick play.

On big maps, you can scout the move out, kill the probes, see the pylons. And if the toss moves out, you can runby, and if he leaves some unit at home, the push will be even more weak.

Not really that interseting ? Going 30ghost or 5starport in tvp. Or going sky terran in tvt(not transitioning) is pretty damn interesting if you ask me :p

You can wall of main, but you cant wall of natural. So you can go 1base vs 1base, but with a slightly different 1-1-1 (which can be easily switched to a defensive mode *aka. marines and tanks* if T scout aggression, which you can if you have hellions moving around the map) Terran is way ahead IMO.

Have you seen Maru play ?
Maru has the best micro (sorry MarineKing!) but his strats aren't all that interesting really.
Not really that interseting ? Going 30ghost or 5starport in tvp. Or going sky terran in tvt(not transitioning) is pretty damn interesting if you ask me :p
I missed the straight-to-sky-Terran TvT. That's neat, but GuMiHo has been doing it for a while.
But yeah, I'm not giving him enough credit. His late game play is definitely cool. But GuMiHo plays differently throughout the whole game every game.

Tanks are good in some situation, but if you let toss can prepare for it, get a good composition, get flank on them, they are bad yes. Have you tried break a contain on Daybreak with tanks sieged behind the minerals of the forward 4th base? They are super strong.

Gumiho showing Terrans what they've been doing wrong for so, so long. What we've been trying to tell them... use those tanks to supplement your bio just like that. That one tank made all the difference in the final fight. I think its safe to say Gumiho had it won there, however that fight would have been quite closer if the Collosus was free to abuse it's range against the bio with nothing to siege the zealots guarding the collo.
Anyway moral of the story T's.... start using your plethora of complimentary units next time you call the matchups stale look at what protoss has to use and then feel better.

Aside from byun switching from protoss to terran, that is.
Imagine the awesome games we wouldn't have seen if that didn't happen D:

Probably better games with creative random and protoss play
Looks like next season is going to be a terran heavy one, can't see how it won't at this point. Good god that is one scary looking UnD pool lol ._.
a lot of the terrans in the U/D are rather meh/borderline, e.g. ryung, yoda, asd, mma, keen, sparta, bomber, hack, heart and happy aren't solid code S tier.

Just admit your wrong.
I accumulated 1k+ posts in 1 year + not just 2 months. Your wrong.
And I did not know gumiho was super good until just then. Anything wrong with that? So if someone does not know gumiho is good, you automatically hate that person?

look at the zergs... You have DRG and then... Remember, it is GSL Hyun and not IPL Hyun...
Also, there doesnt seem to be any word of foreign U/D seed yet. So the groups for now will be 3x6man and 2x5man

When people are wrong they like to play it off like they're not, especially on these forums. Wouldn't worry about him.

Hm. I will check this out again after the games. I wonder how accurate this could be ^.^
I tried it with the GSL semis, and it flunked both tests. XD
Though to be honest, the only thing you should read from those numbers is that Sniper will likely win, and the other matches are essentially open (which doesn't mean that they will be close).
and how exactly do you think your elo thing flunked the gsl tests?
Next season looks very promising. Looking forward to seeing big new rising Terran superstar Maru in action, as well as see how Roro fares up and how the new KeSPA guys handle it. I wonder who the 2 seeds will go to aswell...Im thinking 1 KeSPA player and 1 foreigner. And perhaps 2 up and down seeds to foreigners.
