He recently said in an interview that the game was becoming fun for him again and that he was feeling more confident in his play again (or something like that), and 2-1'd MVP. Tails played pretty terribly against Happy who also played pretty bad. I'd say Polt will 2-0 easily unless Tails suddenly busts out some weird unorthodox strategies that Polt doesn't know how to deal with.

Poor luck for Seed, having to face GumiHo right after coming from LA. I feel really bad for Polt, especially coming from that extreme high he had after being Mvp. He seemed happy and ready to beat anybody, but I guess things aren't going so well right now, wonder what is wrong. I just really hope he can step it up against TAiLS, especially after losing to Adelscott, which really hurts the morale. It still is Polt's best MU, but anything can happen when a player is in bad condition.

To be fair, other than a GSTL upset last year where he beat MVP and Nestea, he just hasn't impressed. His games at IPL 4 were weak, and I haven't seen a strong performance from him in 2012. He kind of reminds me of a Korean version of Haypro, actually.

Pretty bs hero manages to get to hang out in SF for a day and have his match postponed while Seed flys in, then plays, then flys straight back home for WCS

It always feels like the Cloud Kingdom intro song is suggesting like Cloud Kingdom is in a much different place than it actually is. The music has a Middle Eastern feel to it, or something of that sort; I'm no music expert, but it sure doesn't feel like a bunch of purple rocks in space.

well not really, dota2 has constant big tournaments running (gosugamers to check for which matchs are coming up, nearly everyday they have games been played, and theres ton of the small league games that ur able to view straight from the game client live) I dont know about LoL but dota2 runs pretty consistently considering its still only in beta

To be fair the main revenue for certified Brood War professionals would be salary which is not accounted for as well.
I think the WCS prize pool will be solid, I do not for a second think it will be the same as The International or whatever will be Riot's equivalent. And to be honest, I have no problems whatsoever with that. In fact, I think that for StarCraft, I am a lot happier with the investment in national tournaments with all expenses paid and building up local infrastructure rather than having all online stuff leading up to a global event with a huge prize pool.

Yes, but my point is it only happened once. Valve funded that prize pool hoping the enormous amount of money being offered would give them the publicity they needed to start competing with League of Legends.
That's a very different concept from the SC2 tournaments that are self-sufficient being paid for by third party sponsors as well as the fanbase.
One model has long term viability, the other does not.

Pretty much this. The fact that you see almost 5 million dollars over 500 or so tournaments means there's a lot of tournaments with a goodly amount of prize money going out. If you had that 5 million and only like 10 tournaments, that'd be bad, because in the pro scene if you didn't get money off of one of those tournaments you'd probably be completely out of luck. With so many tournaments, though, it gives a chance for smaller scenes to grow, because you're not going to have MKP, MC et al flying out to Kekderp, Idaho to play in a tournament offering 5k to the winner, but 5k isn't bad for someone trying to get started.

I love Soulkey, but i loved SKT first along with Bisu(even tho is was on mbc) than i fell in love with soulkey later, and hence the fanclub but no one ever posts in it anymore and most of the SKT players had fanclubs

Tails somehow seems to have a blackout and pulls his whole army out now and goes for the attack at Polt's side of the map. Polt flys back in with the drop and also sets up a good position and kills Tails main army with the drop still going strong. Polt takes the first game convincingly.

I honestly don't get what Tails was thinking. I guess from early game losing his Sentries he felt too badly behind and never felt safe enough to do anything to actually win and was just trying to stay alive. And then he got desperate for whatever reason. I don't know. . .just strange.

I think Tails is just feeling the pressure of being in over his head. I'd imagine if you asked him he realizes that he got about as far as he's going to get.

Just terrible anti-drop defence. Basically, he had none. I think he did not even bother to remake his dead Observers, did he? You can't play blind like that in PvT once you're on 3 bases. It's begging for being doom dropped.

Well, this win will get him Ro8. If he wins the Ro8, he is in Ro4 which is automatic spot. If he loses Ro8, he will fall to Lower bracket with 7 other players (8 total) who will fight for the remaining 6 spots. Basically if Polt wins this, he would need to lose 3 in a row to be out.

Calling his play "blind" is one criticism you cannot level at Tails.

On the other hand there is a lot of open ground in the middle of the map, making forcefields and Aoe in general considerably less effective whilst allowing for more flanking and runby options.

The gates finish and Polt doesn't scout anything. Polt has only one Bunker up.
Tails attacks with Stalkers and takes down the Bunker. He also built a Pylon at the natural cliff of Polt and can reinforce right into Polt's base now. Polt tries to defend with Marine-Marauder and a lot of SCVs and tries to built another Bunker at his natural but Tails takes the fight even though Polt shows some nice Marauder micro. Tails walks into Polt's main and takes the game and therfore equalizes the series. The score is now 1-1!
Why did he try to go down the ramp again? Couldn't he just lift his orbital and and stay at the top of his ramp. They were about equal on harvesters and with double mule Polt was fine.

Good choice by Tails I guess, 4 gate can work rather well on Entombed. (I remember I got the same thing done to me on this map by BabyKnight in TSL quals..)
You cant go back down the ramp like that, he shouldve lifted his OC to the main, hold the small ramp and oversaturate his main. Move down when hes stable and retake nat, about even with the P.

Ive often wondered why we dont see 4gate more often. I guess its because protoss players are feeling more comfortable in the standrad game, but 4gate is still very powerful and good to use once in a while.

Polt forces the Stalkers down the ramp with an attack and now drops two Medivacs full of units into the main. This time Force Fields can't save Tails and Polt takes the game and therefore the series with a score of 2-1!

True that. I was more responding to Wolf's comment thinking he was expecting Tails to trap some units, but thinking about it, you're right about the overlap. Didn't matter much in the end though; he'd already lost.

Why vote No? That build was quite interesting and would have beaten a lower Terran player. The game was close at one point and it was cool to see something innovative even though it didn't work out for Tails.

also faster tech. 2 rax or 1 rax into star will likely die given appropriate control from the protoss

If unscouted, this build can beat pretty badly standard 3 rax medivacs. Here, Polt went for fast add-ons 2 & 3, which is why he was able to hold. But to be honest, Tails' execution looked poor, I think you're supposed to wait at least a third Immortal and not build that many Stalkers.

I remember similar builds being used by P against T in GSL Season 1 or 2. I just can't remember who was using them. Those immortal timings worked well though during those days.

He had the easiest run in by far the worst group the only decent player (By that group's terrible standards) was zenio and he lost to an amateur, it could have only been salvaged by stork winning that group but stork lost to TSL.ragnarok in the RO4 and tails beat ragnarok to qualify.

Some players just get really nervous in booths and cannot perform as normal. And with any prelims, it has a lot of randomness depending on your draw and how you opponent is feeling that day.

The protoss has to push through to the T production to win, you can do that by running away. When stims done you dont stim your marines to 5 HP, you hold it untill the P commits (which they have to do or they lose because of no expo), then stim. Even if the P just runs away it gives time to get out more units (better production for the T), repair/build bunkers etc. Medivacs arnt far away when stims done.

Not unlimited FFs, but this build is supposed to have many Sentries—more than Tails had.

I think Tails is under-performing. He may not be a force in GSL but I recall him to be a somewhat consistent player for MVP in GSTL.
Still, I don't think he's Polt's level or anything.
He's not that good in GSTL any more, lure and finale have proven to be much better than him for team leagues. It's mostly moot since sniper does most of the carrying for MVP these days.

Yeah I remember staying up on the weekend for my first MLG (the one Leenock won). Friday and Saturday night werent too bad, it was a weekend... but the finals... I stayed up all night (it was a Sunday night... work on Monday), just waiting for Leenock to lose so I could go to bed...
Got to work 2 hours late and with no sleep because Leenock won the whole fucking thing. Luckily I was buzzed enough from that to survive the day!!

He was thinking some sort of proxy (due to the pylon) but since there was only one gas it couldn't have been proxy tech, so proxy 4gate is kind of a reasonable guess.

3 Immortals is not what I would call “lacking real fire power”. FFs easily separate SCVs from the rest of your army and they don't last long against Zealots anyway—and Zealots with +1 armor and Guardian Shield take only 2 damage from Marines on their armor. When executed correctly this Immortal bust is way scarier than what Tails did. I remember the times when this build was popular on ladder, there were so many posts in the Terran Help Me Thread asking for how to deal with it. People were losing even if they had 6 bunkers ready, etc.

Too bad Gumiho wont get any creds for winning against seed today. He could probably do it if seed wasnt jetlagged too, but now we won't know until they meet again. Maybe seed will come up the losers bracket so he can be knocked out properly by gumiho.
Gumiho is one of the absolute worst players to play when you're tired, ultra aggressive with multi pronged attacks for almost all of the match without pause.

Yeaaah, Gumiho's basically a player I think can best almost anyone at some point in time. He doesn't quite have that champion aura about him, but I can't think of any player in the world that would expect to beat Gumiho 9 times out of 10.

Seed engages Gumiho's army out in the open and with huge storms the fight is closer than expected but Seed still loses. A drop does damage in Seed's main. 20:00min Gumiho is maxed against Seed's 100 supply and pushes into Seed's natural now to take the game! Gumiho leads the Bo3 with 1-0!

Do not remember whether it was Bumblebee or Treehugger that said that HerO might lose out on WCS due to scheduling conflicts but that they were working with Gom to resolve it. So we know that Liquid requested some kind of reschedule, it seems likely that IM simply did not. No reason why HerO would be while Seed would not if both teams requested.

This set is really thought provoking, they're both playing a different flavor of standard that is really thin and really awesome, they're both taking expansions really quickly but neither is being completely passive, they're both doing things in the middle of the map to help them take additional bases.

Well that and the team's. I mean IM knew that Seed had this important match coming up and still brought him to the TAC finals, probably figured that was a more prestigious title to win, but it does leave Seed in a bit of a jam here.
Also I mean there is a loser's bracket, so it's not all over if he does get knocked out! IM/Seed probably figured it was worth the risk

10:00min Gumiho adds more Gates and goes for pure Gateway units for now. Gumiho scouts the third with an SCV and is on 4 Rax with 2 Reactors and 2 Tech Labs now, researching Stim and Combat Shields
12:00min Gumiho takes his third Base now, and only now finishes his Starport and his Stim and CS, is ahead on the +1 +1 research though. Seed researched Blink and adds a Templar archives and Charge.
14:00min Seed is at 73 to Gumiho's 60 workers now. Gumiho adds a Ghost Academy and Medivacs now and pushes out with a lot of Marine Marauder but only 1 Medivac Seed engages him in the open and Gumiho has to run away.
Seed pushes into Gumiho's natural with a huge Chargelot-Archon-Stalker-Sentry army and kills all of Gumiho's units. A single-Medivac drop by Gumiho does some damage in Seed's natural but gets deflected. Seed pushes further into Gumiho's base and Gumiho has no answer to the mass amount of units Seed has. Seed takes the game and evens out the series! The score is 1-1!

Pretty sure that would be Gumiho. Unless we at some point start to see that Seed is not a machine and goes through patchy play, I would rather gamble on having Gumiho show up in non-GSTL finals form than having to face a rested, prepared Seed in TvP.

That and the Korean Protoss seem to get so much more mileage out of their gateway armies. Foreigners are generally afraid to move out with gateway units unless they have a massive ball of 3/3 with templars and/or collosi with support. With the exception of all-in builds of course

The trend in LR thread to blame every loss for anyone whos been travelling lately on jetlag is getting quite annoying.
- Not everyone has a hard time adjusting to different timezones. - Jetlagged doesnt automaticly mean tired. Jetlag might cause tiredness at hours you're normally awake becaues your body watch says something different than the clock. But it doesnt mean you're tired 24h per day. You can be as alert as ever even if your body watch isnt in sync with the clock. - A lot of people here really arent good enough to spot the difference between "normal" level of play for a player and "slightly lower" level of play. And even if you can spot the difference, you cannot under any circumstances know its because of tiredness and not something else. - Hell, sometimes travelling players even gets non-mistakes called mistakes and blamed on tiredness, even though given the information the actions werent mistakes at all. And opponents playing awesome doesnt get recognized at all. - Funnily enough, when 10 or 20 people travel to an events in EU/NA just for a weekends and play, their losses almost never gets blamed on jetlag (see Korean losses at DH Summer for example) but when its one big game and not a whole tourny, like in GSL, jetlag is suddenly affecting everyone and is to be blamed for all losses. - How come almost every Korean seem to be travelling foreign events and doing well there!? WHY NO JETLAG!?
So please, stop blaming everything on jetlag. Even if it actually does play a role (which it does a lot less than people claim), you have no idea it does.

I have lost track of the amount of times I lose lategame PvP to guys with 60 APM in 'War of the Worlds'. Also if we had something a bit more interesting and not good against EVERYTHING on the ground, we'd maybe get some other units that scale better with micro.
ALso this is the first time I've watched Seed's PvT, guy's pretty godamn solid

I have lost track of the amount of times I lose lategame PvP to guys with 60 APM in 'War of the Worlds'. Also if we had something a bit more interesting and not good against EVERYTHING on the ground, we'd maybe get some other units that scale better with micro.
ALso this is the first time I've watched Seed's PvT, guy's pretty godamn solid
Saw Axslav and SaSe get some Carriers (slowly replacing units sent to death such as Zealots harassing, etc.) in lategame PvP, maybe there's hope for some post-Colossus era in lategame PvP!

WP Seed! Think Gumiho's got the chops to come up from loser's anyway so it's not a massive disaster for him either.
Gumiho played so damn well, but Seed predicted his every move, poor guy is much better than most of the players that are going to advance, tough tough luck.

Seed really looking strong again. We might see the start of the era of protoss. We have so many very very solid protoss players at the top right now, which you barely see drop any matches and seed seems to be their king!

Seed vs Polt next round, I have a feeling those are going to be some weird matches, both players can macro and play the late game but both players have some seriously dirty all-ins they can employ as well. Do the maps change from round to round?

Hm, I want to see Ohana, Daybreak and Cloud Kingdom. The maps with the most interesting gameplay of those. Entombed and Antiga mostly play out more boring, those maps are predictable. Shakuras is a kinda bad map and Taldarim had its fun time but that was a year ago. + Show Spoiler [Rant on maps] +
Those maps need to go soon. We need new awesome stuff like the anniversary maps of the ESV team. Those would play out differently from everything we have now and would change the game. Blizzard needs to change their map-pool a lot. It's getting boring. And we need more cool features on the maps. Entombed for example has no special, interesting features whatsoever. 3 easy to take bases, only 2 ramps. Wide-open middle with a watchtower. And then those useless high-ground expansions behind rocks and the little ways behind them which don't get used at all. Just a boring map. Just my opinion of course. /rant

So please, stop blaming everything on jetlag. Even if it actually does play a role (which it does a lot less than people claim), you have no idea it does.
Well, I think case was a bit different from jetlag. Seed just got off a 10+ hour flight 3 hours ago (and had to spend 1 of those on a train). It is true that some people can sleep well on flight and are not as affected, but you could tell he was pretty tired.
As for poor play, there can be many reasons and we can never be certain of which one it is or it might be a combination. But I don't think anyone is implying that the person with jetlag/feeling tired will lose for sure. But to claim that Seed wasn't at a disadvantage because of the scheduling would be underestimating the affects. And when players of the same levels play, this disadvantage could be the difference maker.
As for you DH Summer and foreign tournaments example, most players arrive the day before the tournament starts to get adjusted.

Seeds best PvT map is apparently Antiga while his worst is Daybreak although his sample size for that is fairly small. Polts best TvP map is ..Antiga and his worst.. is daybreak and his sample size is much better.
So we're probably going to see Antiga for sure and not daybreak but beyond that it's anyones guess.

Actually, if you are on a deep team. The starter spot is actually really important and should be taken but a strong player. Optimally, the starter is a very good all around player with no weak matchups so if he wins, he can't be sniped easily. I think the reason IM wanted to play Seed as the starter was to force Taeja to come out early. I don't think Liquid would have been confident sending anyone else besides Taeja. It didn't really work out because Taeja went beast mode and AK'ed but the strategy itself was sound. In GSL, IPL TAC, you had a lot of big name starters like Byun, Squirtle, MMA, Gumiho, etc. So I don't think Seed was put as starter to be the sacrificial lamb.

Really glad Squirtle beat Genius. I was a bit worried because I feel like Squirtle isn't quite at the same level that he once was back at the start of the year. Hope he keeps practicing hard because I really doubt any Protoss was better than him in the first several months of 2012.

We had some plans on Sunday that we wanted people to attend, but they didn't work out unfortunately. Also that date was stated in my original message to Mr Chae about scheduling, sucks it had to be this way but we'll manage!
