They really weren't though. G1 was p good but every other game was bad, not just in comparison but in general.

G2 was presumably Min meant to snipe Gumiho and it seemed like Gumiho did a weird build he wasn't expecting and Min got flustered trying to think on his feet. Trading brood lords and corruptors for raven energy is NEVER going to be a good trade, no matter how booming your economy.

G3 was Coca killing himself by beating down his backrocks halfway. This one is a little bit hard to tell since he held the initial SCV push with reasonable losses but had he not started tearing down his back rocks to take his third he would've had more time to scout the natural backstab and mount a proper defense. I'm not saying that Coca would definitely have spotted the push in time to defend it, but it was as much Coca screwing himself as it was Gumiho winning the game. Repeated SCV pulls are never fun to watch.

G4 was Ryung just being stupidly greedy and being taken by surprise by a 2base timing and rolling over.

G5 was not as close as people seem to think it was. It was a typical TVP where the T gained small advantages every engagement and slowly just picked apart the P until there was nothing left. Not a good game.

If it were these exact games, and MMA all killed FXO, people would not be praising these games anywhere near as much. People are enjoying this for the underdog story. In a similar fashion to how QXC all-killed IM, the games weren't good. The story was. You don't need to be a SlayerS fanboy. Once the hype dies down and people look back on this game, Everything past Gumiho's initial opening in G2 will be immensely forgettable.
A storybook ending for FXO, yes; but NOT the amazing 5 straight 5star games people are claiming it to be.

if MMA had allkilled, i'm pretty sure all the MMA fans would be praising them a lot.

these games were good and most people agreed i would give them 4.5 star, 3 star, 3.5 star, 1.5 star and 3 star, which is 'good' in my book (anything 3+ is good) - so i do agree they're not 5 straight 5 star games, but they are definitely not bad or boring

But guys, Terran is underpowered.

GG FXO. So happy for a well-deserving team. Gumiho is fucking ridiculous.
Time held me green and dying though I sang in my chains like the sea.

I feel like you didn't actually read my post. Yes, it's true, the SlayerS and MMA and Terran fans in general would be jizzing themselves if MMA allkilled as well.

What I'm saying is that people are thinking somewhat irrationally in a heat-of-the-moment situation, mentally biased through being pumped for a potential all-kill, the thrill of the underdog story etc. Lots of emotional bias which is shifting people's judgement. All of these things make for a good story. But that's just it. It was a good story. Good for spectators that just want to see shiny things die and ride the emotional roller coaster. But what it wasn't was good starcraft. Unless your definition of good games of starcraft is one-sided stompfests.

G5 for example would be nowhere near as highly rated if it were a regular Code A/Code S game It was a simple reasonably standard TVP and people are hyping it up because they're emotionally compromised based on the situation. Likewise, if you took that game and got people to vote for it again a 3 months down the track, I would be willing to bet that it would get nowhere near the praise it is at this point.

tl;dr People are judging these games highly because of the narrative, not because of the quality of the games.

But that's the important thing - yes, of course by pure starcraft they weren't impeccable games, but rarely are impeccable games the most highly rated. Mvp-Squirtle game 7 was a 2rax. Leenock 6 pooling alive is a gold league strat. naniwa-drg games were very messy and sloppy. jyp-hack was a mess lol

But their stories, as you say, make them exciting to watch and good games, so that's enough for most spectators really. (the games weren't that stompy anyway, gumiho had to work hard for them).

Parting-MKP in GSTL last season was a great skill game, but was voted horrible due to the story.

So of course, context is important, and context made these good games to watch. maybe we just have different definitions of a 'good game'

Maybe I'm just bitter that NSHoSeo didn't get its storybook ending the other season

I guess this is more my problem with the rating system then anything else. At least we understand eachother it seems.
If only there were a way to differentiate between good narrative games and good starcraft games. But I will admit, you are right. The stories are a huge part of what makes up SC

all-killing the finals is so anticlimactic =/ It's time they adopted proleague format.

Yes it can be. But you can also have epic reverse all-kills. Dunno proleague format sounds more "fair" but this format that gstl uses makes up for more dramatic games I think.

Pro-league format can also be over quickly if one team bashes the other.
Pro-league format is more fair but I think this format is more fun and leads more often to close series and upsets. The team just losing a game get's a reasonable advantage of picking the map and player resulting in some more closer series. Of course a good player in form can potentially keep playing more games unlike pro-league format but overall I still think winner's format leads to the ace match more often. Pro-league format also has a lot less upsets because each player just plays 1 or 2 games, making depth in the team more important while in the current format one player in form can carry a team. Less fair perhaps but upsets and seeing new players is part of the fun of a team league i think.

Players not completely being able to prepare the games beforehand also makes it fun and along with the choosing players part and the whole strategical thing about it it's more fun overall I think than pro-league format which is what should matter for a team league i think, for fair setups and perhaps higher skill level you have all the individual stuff anyway.

damn... props to gumiho for taking out slayers. I was rooting for FXO, but kinda wished there were more games, so it would be an epic hard earned victory, like against startale, mvp, and nshs. Well whatever, they deserved the win too bad leenock didn't play.

kind of funny to think what would have happened if MMA didn't manner mule when he was ahead since it was at a point in the game where resources were hard to come by

I agree with you- Gumiho's triple expand will be remembered, the raven bombardment, and all of game 1, which was a very very good game.

I really don't like this king of the hill style, it's way too boring.

For this to be truly a TEAM league, then we have to actually see a TEAM winning, not just one person who just so happens to be on a roll that particular day.

In the end, did FXO beat Slayers? No... Gumiho beat slayers, and that just sucks.

GSTL should switch to the BW style of team competition.

what I loved most about game 2 was gumiho playing an aggressive multi-pronged style with MECH in TvZ.
Thor drop in the main, hellions running around, two separate squads of four thors + hellions wandering around the map killing stuff. you can do that against broodlords, and it was hilarious to watch his thor raiding parties. He stockpiled ravens and vikings and kept them home to defend, and his ground untis were always just running around killing stuff.

Look at Gumiho's recent losses... they are all to Protoss.

TvP is his weakest match up. Did Slayers put out a Protoss before Puzzle?

NO

Does Slayers deserve to be all-killed for not doing any research on their opponents?
