We often see a short period of dominance from a single player. It seems, to me at least that, for a player to be seen to exert such dominance, they have to play a lot of tournaments, then after a while they just don't get to do the focused practice and slump a bit, or their traveling schedule starts to take a toll. The last two players that showed such strength for me were MKP and DRG a few months ago, but they went to several MLGs and other foreign tournaments and then showed a subsequent dropoff in results. Hopefully Taeja can get back to Korea, get practicing for a good GSL run and keep up this current level. It's a really difficult balance it seems between keeping up your optimal practice routine and level, and actually getting to use your skillset to earn some cash on your travels. Polt is one player who saw this, stopped streaming, stopped going to foreign tournaments (after quite a bit of success there too) and is now reaping the results. Hopefully in the future there'll be a few more Korean-based tournaments so the top Korean talent can just focus on showing their best games instead of having to choose between sacrificing potential GSL results for the cash in foreign-based tournaments.
This is pretty much the best time of the year to be a Korean player, we have OSL, GSL, WCS, WCG running right now. They have lots of stuff to take care of.
Hell they had to reschedule Seed's WCS winners round 2 match just so he could go to the IPL TAC finals.
Last year we had a similar situation where WCG Korea, GSL Team Ace Invitational and GSL November were all happening at the same time.

Win or lose, still very proud of the Liquid boys!
GG!

I thoroughly enjoyed these finals, especially since it was my first SC2 live event. The breaks between games were quite long but the crowd was pretty good and it was ridiculously exciting overall.
With that said, even though I like Liquid in general, I had a hard time cheering for them on this, and I was glad that IM took it in the end. Just seemed wrong to have them win by getting carried harder than any team I've ever seen get carried in all-kill format. Not just in the games today, but Taeja all-killing Prime, 4-killing SlayerS, and so on. Hopefully the other members of Liquid can step it up in the future! Shame that the final game came down to a PvP for Hero >_<

I dont get it. Why has IM the first spot instead of TL. TL has won the first set 5-1 and lost the second set 3-5, still makes 8-6. Or can you consider the first set as a "warm up round"?

horrible production by ipl this time. the bias of the casters for liquid was a pretty big turnoff too.
looks like relying on one hard carry isnt the best strategy. maybe liquid should pick up a few more koreans

Double-elimination. Liquid dropped a series in the course of this tournament up until the finals, IM didn't. Therefore, in the finals, the team that remained in the winner's bracket the entire time gets two chances, because all the other teams got two chances (i.e, one in the winner's bracket and one in the loser's bracket). They're also two completely separate Bo9s so combined scores are completely irrelevant.

No, but the team comming from the losers' bracket has to win the BO9 twice . From my point of view, it's pretty stupid, as the losing team has already proven itself by grinding the lower bracket.. Oh well..
Regarding the production, it was horrible. The casters were ok, I actually preffer them over some of the ones that shout about anything Well, the good part about all this is that Taeja got a lot more fans now, including myself :D

IPL should just give Demuslin, Idra, Incontrol and 2GD's kitten some money, or even better: hire them as casters and shit chatters for the next event. They saved the whole thing for me, if it wasnt for those guys, I would have switched off the stream after the xth 30 min break between games. Also Incontrol is better at beeing Kevin Knocke than Kevin Knocke is!
On top of that I missed the last 2 games cause it was already four in the morning for central europeans.

IPL production wasn't THAT bad. Ok, actually, it was bad, but I don't think we should go pitchforks on them unless they do this "to us" again, next time. Rather, I think we should take the constructive criticism approach and demand that they bring their production levels back up to how good we know they can be (e.g. IPL 3) for their next event.
For me, I guess sometimes I can tolerate a lot, so it was still watchable and enjoyable (although they did commit some grievous errors). But the problem is that this is SC2 in 2012, and the level of competition from other recent productions this year has been so much higher, so when something like this happens the community is ready to go ballistic.
To recap, some of the grievous errors ranged from unfortunate/unacceptable (computers crashing, video feed going down completely during one of the games followed by the AUDIO going out, too) to seriously poor judgment - namely, flashing the IM Winnner screen before Hero had GG'd. At least that's what I think happened - I was watching on mute with an unrelated partying going on in my living room, but it seemed liked IPL jumped the gun and did a preemptive winner screen (reminds me a bit of Florida in the 2000 US Presidential election) while Hero was still playing the game...
As I already mentioned, wasn't the last major IPL event (I'm thinking of IPL 3) lauded for its really high quality in production value? So, I know IPL can do better than this and I hope they really make amends for next time!

Between the other poor performances shown and the absolutely SHIT production from IPL it was the only thing that saved it from being the biggest blunder to date, and even then it's a strong contestant. Seriously, there's enough saturation with well produced and ran tournaments that we really don't need this kind of bullshit. People were actually falling asleep in the crowd and I had to stare at the same AMD logo the entire time just so I could see my favorite players duke it out.
I know I might be acting entitled, and I rarely do such, but this was just a joke. That's why I muted the IPL stream, and just listened to DeMusliM, Incontrol, Idra, and 2GD casually bash everything. Are they on someones stream? I'd watch that. They were all on DeMusliM's stream, casting/ analyzing the games as they were being played.
More like they were having fun and sometimes mentioning the actual games But a big thank you to those guys, if not for them I would never have bothered to stay for the game on Antiga

Something tells me they pulled back the dollars for production...WAY back. Hopefully they learned a lesson from this and realize they can't pull this off with barebones.

TL Foreigner Squad needs to Step up their game...They aren"t even average anymore..Everyone Bar Ret (who still makes some pretty fucking horrendous mistakes from time to time) is a Below Average player.

What I didn't get at all was why weren't the players in sound-proof booths ? I mean, what was the alternative? The players promised to turn the volume loud or something ? )

Nice to see Seed did back up his recent status as one of the best players in the world by closing this out for IM.
Poor Taeja just had to carry too much on his shoulders. Hope he gets a bonus >_<

I guess so, again I think TLO's getting into a bit of shape and Sheth is pretty good as well. Perhaps I'm too much of an optimist though!
I think Seeker said to me earlier that Liquid didn't want to pick up more Koreans as they still want to retain a foreign core. Wonder if there's anybody they'll be looking to pick up in the future along those lines, I've felt for a while that what would be beneficial would be picking up a foreign player who's really set on going to Korea, and staying there a la Huk back in the day. Sadly the only player who seems to have such aspirations is Naniwa and I doubt, much as I personally respect the guy that he is the kind of guy who would fit the Liquid ethos

Nice try Taeja!
Would love to see Liquid succeed as a team. C'mon guys!

If you can deal with some of the issues I'd strongly advise watching it, some really good games of Starcraft in there among the technical difficulties
