But the two final players were players which noone there really knew anything about, so noone really cared about the result, and the commentaters never gave any background information on them other then that violet lived in us or something like that.
Also, there was quite a bit of lag, which was exactly the same on all graphics quality levels, the people there said it was mlg side. But it kind of ruined a lot of the suspenseful moments.

While high level ZvZ might be interesting for zergs looking to steal builds, as a spectator sport it isn't at all really very enthralling. (there were about 20 people chatting and eating snacks not paying attention to stream as the final battle went on, as nobody really cared a huge amount by that point. All the energy was gone from having already seen 8 zvz's or so and not rooting for anyone, combined with constant lag during fights,)

I understand that mlg can't control the brackets, but at least invite more top tiere players of other races so you don't get only zvz's. It's up there with pvp as the worst matchup for a spectator who isn't really familiar with the matchup, especially a bunch of times in a row.

if you dont know who violet is you probably dont deserver to watch starcraft

That is a terrible thought. Violet is not a big name player, nor is Symbol. To cut people out for not knowing big name players is just idiotic.

Of course i know who he is... But at a barcraft a large number of the people there don't follow the scene very closely (at least where i was.) They know some of the foreigners and a few of the top top koreans but it's a lot harder to get a room full of excitement when over half of the viewers have never seen either of the players play.

The main thing i was commenting on there was how during the finals, the commentators never even really attempted to give any information on the players. They just said their teams and races and went straight into the game. So all the casual players, people who watch mabye one or two big tournaments and thats it, and also all the non playing friends who get brought to try to get them into the game have no idea who the players are.

With this my point is made, casuals don't know him so he's not a big name yet. Most people who actually pay attention to the scene know him, but that does not make him a big name.

Amazing player, but not a big name, yet. It takes a lot to be a big name.

Violet is a big name player. He's won an IEM and finished top 4 at another MLG, came 3rd at Homestory Cup and continuously boss mode every team league for Empire

He might not be Idra or Huk but Violet is definitely a big name.

No. A big name player is a HuK or IdrA. A big name player is a player that all the casuals know. That's what makes them big name players. Violet is a great player and has won things and I love him for it, but he is not a big name player.

Well if what you did a year ago and BM spam to stay in peoples minds is what it takes to be a big name, then no Violet isn't a big name by that definition. Anyone who pays attention to the scene knows that Violet is better than Idra though. Huk too but huk isn't as bad off as Idra.

Even casuals have to pay more attention than other sports to know anything about anyone. Its not like you will hear news reports about SC2 players lol

No one was saying they're better than Violet. Just because a player isn't well known doesn't mean they're worse than the players, just means they're not a player that draws the crowds.

The guy I quoted was saying that if you don't know Violet, who isn't a big name, that they don't deserve to watch Starcraft. Which is stupid.

I think the general consensus is that Violet is one of the best zergs in world, but he's not well known.

He reminds me of squirtle, best Toss at the moment, but no one knows him compared to Incontrol/idra/huk/naniwa.

Violet is deserving, great games.

I agree, Violet is top 10 Zerg in anyones list and top 5 in mine. It is such a shame that people don't know him; but I guess this win will put him on more peoples radar (hopefully).

Violet is well known to anyone who's opinion matters.

Perhaps guys who get 90% of their Sc2 content from Husky don't know him but the real core of the community who will be around for years to come sure as hell know who Violet is.

Violet has been around along time and Symbol is code S now. not sure if you are trolling or not.

Big name just means what it is. Big in name. Marketable, popular, name-recognition, good fan base. Idra. huk. Stephano. Boxer. MMA. Those are big names. Violet has achievements, Symbol has skills, but their names aren't relatively big, not yet.

Luckily the biggest earners are the best players, not the players with most fans.

Which is why MVP has earnt more than Stephano, Huk, Idra and Naniwa combined.

I think violet needs to go gsl to prove himself, hero has proved himself in foreign tournaments and also got to ro4 and showed he is a top korean, Puma is another who needs to progress in gsl, hopefully violet goes back sometime in the future.

you re probably really stupid to take "not deserving to watch starcraft" a serious post, and even more for replying it

i just said you're a poser viewer with no understanding of the game and thats why you dont see things exciting, but you can do it, right?

What a dumb comment, if you think casuals don't matter then say goodbye to your game.

You know that all the EG players get paid a big salary and that Idra makes ~100-200$/hr just for streaming right, he has probably made more money streaming then mvp has won.

There were 11 protoss, 10 terrans and 11 zergs. How much more variety do you want? Or maybe they should make it so that when there are zergs in top 3, they replace 1 of them with a player from another race, oh and maybe they if there is a finals with no names, they should tell them that they are not being accepted into the finals because they are no names (despite earning their way into it) and put a big name like incontrol in it? Is this what you want?

Come on, your complaint is futile

if you dont know who violet is you probably dont deserver to watch starcraft

That is a terrible thought. Violet is not a big name player, nor is Symbol. To cut people out for not knowing big name players is just idiotic.

What a dumb comment, if you think casuals don't matter then say goodbye to your game.

You know that all the EG players get paid a big salary and that Idra makes ~100-200$/hr just for streaming right, he has probably made more money streaming then mvp has won.

I doubt it, you really think idra has made 300k streaming? lol

Strawman argument... He wasn't saying that at all. He isn't asking for more variety or diversity or replacing of people. That's stupid. Read his post again. He specifically said "I understand that mlg can't control the brackets," which means he doesn't want what you said he wants.

He wanted more representation of top tier players from races other than Zerg. A fair complaint, seeing as DRG, Stephano, Violet, Symbol, and Leenock were there (arguably 5 of the 6 top zergs in the game right now, with the other being Nestea) and Jjakji, MVP, Taeja, Marineking, Bomber, aLive, Ghostking, theSTC weren't there to represent Terran, and Parting, Squirtle, Puzzle, Naniwa, Creator, and Hero weren't there representing Protoss. He didn't want these players inserted into the finals; he wanted them AT THE EVENT.

I'm not sure if he wanted more invites from MLG, or whatever, but I can tell from a spectator's point of view that one race was represented better than the other two. Perhaps that lead to his barcraft's disappointment.

lol Idra doesn't make $100-$200 an hour streaming. If he did, he would stream a hell of a lot more.

I think the general consensus is that Violet is one of the best zergs in world, but he's not well known.

He reminds me of squirtle, best Toss at the moment, but no one knows him compared to Incontrol/idra/huk/naniwa.

Violet is deserving, great games.

Is incontrol known for being a player?
