It isn't the captains fault, sometimes players are just really hard to get ahold of. I do think captains should be removing inactive or unresponsive members, especially ones that schedule a match days in advance and then drop off the face of the earth. It takes 1 minute to post in the thread or send a pm that you won't be able to make it and several times this week some of players have waited for hours online for their scheduled match before giving up.

this is like the fourth time you've come into this thread and been a dickhead. for a mod, that's unacceptable. isn't being a defensive jerk overstepping the boundaries of a for-fun team league?

that said, hazardous HAS TO cast my game with cyantheory this week. a total lol-fest

First off, for the record I'm not a moderator. I'm not here to make sure you say and play nice with each other. I'm here to make things run, that's it.

I respond to what I get, if you're a dick, that's what I'll respond with, especially if you decide to make inflammatory comments about the administrative team, my person or members of my team.

you're splitting hairs. you're still representing CTL management and it shouldn't be acceptable to come in here and antagonize players who are trying to have a good time.

plus, considering you're a big administrator, I would think that would mean you should put forth MORE effort as a captain in assembling your team than those who are not. you know, lead by example?

I concur. the majority of the mods have done a fine job listening to and serving the community. however, dasende has antagonized players numerous times, and this attitude shouldn't be tolerated, considering he is management.

this thread just turned into a poo slinging contest.

step back, have a drink or sniff some glue, whatever relaxes you.

We're ALL just doing this for fun, the admins included. No one is hired by TL or Blizz to make this league work. If the Admins get too much flak for doing volunteer work, they wont do it any more.

The Mgmt is just as susceptible to getting pissed off as anyone else. The difference they have to deal with -all- the shit going wrong, not just team to team issues. A greater number of problems are player created than based on the structure of the league.

If you and your team are super close and trade phone numbers and stay up all night talking about what boys you like, thats fine. Some teams may not want to get that serious, if they did, chances are they wouldnt be floating around bronze-gold for too long.

That said, players who schedule a game and no show without giving a PM or in game msg probably should get the L, and a warning, or dropped from their team, in favor of people on the waitlist. But there would have to be proof of a scheduled match for that to be workable.

Proof of scheduling is something that should definitely be included (such as a pm or chat screenshot). So far if we've had a walkover the opponent has admitted it, but if a player disputes then it's just a bunch he-said-she-said (with all the shes also being hes in this instance). Right now, with Hazardous stepping up and doing such a great job casting, we're kicking around the idea of having a semi set match schedule for most games, with players who could not make those times would be allowed to schedule for what times actually do work for them. Is that something that people think would make scheduling easier? It would certainly make things easier to cast.

It's not official yet, but we're looking at having a half-hour period after a scheduled match time for games to begin. This would apply to set, specific times - if the closest you and your opponent can agree upon is a 3 hour window, there isn't anything we can do if they don't show up for the first two and a half hours. We're still tweaking it because we do want to allow rescheduling because not having matches played just sucks all around, but it gets really hard to reschedule as the week goes on and is nigh impossible on Sunday.

And for those who are curious, there is literally nothing in this for us but a chance to grow SC2 and esports. Remember that when you build your effigies of me!

Um, we're actually not getting paid at all lol.

A lot of scheduling problems come from the fact that players aren't very invested in playing or captains that don't contact players regarding their match. Both come from a lack of team structure. GnR has a pretty good way of dealing with it: they've just set up a team blog where they can reunite all information relevant to their team, and where they can talk to each other. That's the kind of stuff that helps captains getting ahold of his players and players getting a fixed place where they can learn everything they need about the matches they need to play.

Unfortunately if everyone was commited to a little bit of time per week to CTL, we actually wouldn't have to deal with inactive players, unresponding people or misunderstandings. What we recommend for captains is to contact directly (preferably by something like Skype or e-mail) their players informing them they have a set to play that week, to make sure they know they need to play. If any team has inactive players to the point that the team cannot simply count on them to play for the team, just send an e-mail to choboteamleague@gmail.com explaining the situation, and we can have a replacement for you.

This is all much more fun if teammates actually feel like teammates.

Considering the difficulties myself and some players on my team have had scheduling their matches or even contacting our opponents at all, even after talking to their captain, I again suggest having a deadline such as Wednesday night for contacting your opponent at least once to exchange info and hopefully schedule a match.

Yeah we are all busy with real life but how long does it really take to send a pm on TL saying 'hey man I'm free to play on friday night is that good for you?' Not very long I hope and if anyone is too busy to do that they probably shouldn't be playing Starcraft to begin with.

Additionally, no-shows are unacceptable and my team has already experienced two this week. The player in question contacted me hours later the first time, explaining that he lost track of time. I rescheduled for today and he agreed. Once again he didn't show only this time I have heard nothing from him.

Whats more annoying for someone who can only play casually in a 'for fun' league, contacting your opponent with your schedule that takes 5 minutes or having to wait in lobby for 2 hours and not being able to play your match? Having lives cuts both ways, and sitting around for 2 hours on a weekend is not exactly how I want myself or my players to spend their time.

We agree, and we've been discussing rules for forfeiting that are to be implemented from next week onwards.

That was completely unnecessary. Don't try to disparage a team for actively communicating with one another. If there was more of that then we wouldn't be having these issues with scheduling.

This thread has gotten quite heated, so I just wanted to say that the vast majority of my experiences in the CTL have been great and I think its awesome that their is a league like this for scrubs like myself

This thread just needs slightly less negativity, slightly more team organization and it will be perfect!

Yes, that was me

I think eventually, you would want something like that for the league. It would be trivial to set that up using Wordpress (as I did for GnR), perhaps a bit more tricky if you prefer something more customised.

. Don't worry, you will know it's been a success by the number of promotions by your participants - I think a lot of us are spending more time playing in general because we are enjoying the league.

Sadly, poor team organisation is a feature of any low-level sport. This league has had a remarkable completion rate so far!
