I think post-patch it's actually a terrible move, especially if you let protoss get to 3base uncontested. Their natural tech decision on 3base is to go fleet beacon for mothership anyway; the 7 phoenix Feast had, plus range, can kill absurd numbers of muta.

I feel like all you have to do is tech out of muta once you scout the fleet beacon. What are 15 pheonix's going to do against corrupter BL or roach infestor?

Kill the corruptors and lift infestors? Phoenix are fucking amazing, and the investment into muta is a lot bigger than the investment into phoenix.

Protoss doesn't need to make nearly that many phoenixes. Feast could have stayed on 1 stargate and the +2 range would have been enough to prevent the mutalisks from flying into his main and wreaking havoc.

Have you used this upgrade yet? it's so damn expensive to get and when Zerg scouts your fleet beacon they just tech switch. It's not as easy you claim.

On 3base eco it's pretty negligible, especially since you want mothership anyway.

Are they? I'm pretty sure Phoenix are a bigger investment if you're trying to compete with Muta.

Mutalisks hit ground units and do splash damage, Jehct. I sure hope they're a bigger investment.
