Where is the passion? I don't understand why so many people root for him, yes his play is obviously stellar but I personally just don't find him interesting I have never seen any statement from Stephano stating that all he cares about money. He did explain that he had set himself a financial goal in order to ensure his studies in medicine. And during the Atlantic city IPL panel discussion with Incontrol, Select and MC, when he was asked about other interest, he explained that all he thinks about and does in SC2. Hardly seems like someone with no passion for the game Agreed.
Besides, who the hell becomes a pro-gamer so they could make a ton of money? There's only a handful of people in the world who are getting somewhat "rich" from pro-gaming.
Stephano is very talented and obviously has worked very hard to become the player he is today. That just seems to be tough to swallow for some.

the casters asked why terrans skip their tanks for so long. there you have it: there are too many things that counter a low tank count too well.

LOL. Stephano is the first sc2 bonjwa ofcourse people compare him to flash. I'll assume that you're trolling and not know what a bonjwa is. A lot of times the people who put Stephano on a pedastal like that aren't really Stephano fans; they're just doing that to get people like you to dislike Stephano fans. I don't think you understand. He really is, arguably, the best Zerg in the world. He really isn't while he proves his - undeniable - skills on inferior stages. When Stephano makes it to a GSL final a couple of times, sure you can call him the best Zerg in the world. Until then, it's just blowing smoke. The talk around Stephano now is identical to the talk about Naniwa before he went to Korea. GSL favors Korean players since it's their home turf. Foreigner tournaments favor foreign players since it's their home turf. When a Korean player takes a foreigner tournament against the best the foreigner's scene has got to offer, that shows a gap. When a foreigner player does the same in GSL, that shows a gap. I don't think Stephano will ever get to the point where he'll be able to show a gap against the best of the best. For this reason, I think requirements like yours are way too high. I think a good bar for Stephano would be if he consistently defeats GSL champions in foreigner tournaments. If he can do that, I'd be willing to say that he's the top Zerg, with the understanding that there can be multiple top Zergs around the same level. I agree. Also, with Nestea playing how he play nowadays, the only 2 "top" zerg that consistently win in Korea are DRG and Leenock. Coca was another that felt above the rest while he was playing, incredibly smooth play, but he has been inactive for a while. I wouldn't bat an eye if someone could think Stephano was Top 3 Z in the world. The rest of Foreigner aren't even close honestly. Naniwa and Thorzain are the best two behind him right now, but they're incredibly inconsistent, and i wouldn't put them even in a Top 10 for their race. How are my requirements way too high? Koreans usually WIN the foreign tournaments they attend. There's no favouritism for foreigners at foreign tourneys. At one point if three Koreans entered, we already knew who 1, 2 and 3 would be. These days koreans STILL usually win foreign tourneys if anyone significant turns up, with occasions where a foreigner wins it and the koreans take position 2, and usually 3 - 4 as well. GSL is simply harder than any foreign tourney. It's not about favouritism, and that's why being the GSL champion means as much as it does. The problem with these discussions is people always over-react. If you say Stephano is over-hyped, this somehow means you're saying he sucks. If you say he hasn't proved himself in GSL, you're saying that you don't rate any of his achievements. It prevents even the beginnings of a sensible talk about the matter. Stephano is obviously a great player. But GSL has the rep it does for a reason, and it's not because Koreans play there. It's a combination of 1. Koreans being the best players right now 2. GSL being a SAVAGELY difficult tournament and 3. Foreigners consistently getting massacred in it while Koreans turn up to foreign tournaments and top 3 almost every time. Even if Steph is always up there with them or even beats them, it's the GSL where he needs to prove his overall skill level. I think he'd beat round of 32 unless he got Group of Death'd, but I don't think he'd get very far once he ran into terrans who are very good at customizing builds to counter styles. Stephano's weakness - to me - seems to be that he has his style and he sticks to it. Against people with slightly inferior unit control and macro, that style looks unstoppable. Against people who's mechanics are up to scratch and who know it's coming, I don't think it'll look half so unbeatable. But that's theory for now because Steph has no interest in going to Korea. That doesn't invalidate the observation, though.
GSL has the home turf factor. Naniwa has beat pro Korean players in foreign tournaments, and can't win once in Code A in GSL, making a lot of sloppy mistakes and whatsnot. A lot of Koreans code A players fall to players that aren't even considered top tier in foreign tournament. Home turf factor is relevant, a Foreign to win that would mean that he's so incredibly better, like Bomber or MMA were compared to the competition when they won their MLGs.

Fuck that tank/infantry positioning was so nice.

Why are the casters always looking at minerals when comparing income ? If the income was 5 minerals per minute for zerg and 6 minerals/m for terran, while zerg was mining 1000 gas/m and terran 0 gas/m, the casters would still say the income is favoring the terran (usually citing mules in the process). They never notice that usually, there is a big gas income difference which involve a lot of workers on gas.

Weird, works just fine for me
