MAP AND RULES
TENTATIVE Map List:
Somewhat updated maps:
Korhal Compound Cloud Kingdom Shattered Temple Shakuras Plateau Antiga Shipyard GSL Daybreak MLG Dual Sight
TENTATIVE Map Selection/Rules:
Each player veto’s a map until there is one map left. The first person to veto in each 1st match is the person who is on top of the bracket layout. The 2nd and 3rd match veto’s work the same as the first, but the first person to veto is the loser from the last match. So basically it's like losers take-out in basketball. Players can only veto one map at a time.
For the finals, each player can veto one map leaving 5 left. The player that veto’s first should be decided by a coin toss before the matches start. The player that wins the toss can either pass his veto and veto last, or veto first like a kickoff. And the map order for the finals should go according to the order stated above while noting that if a map is pooled, it will be skipped in the order.
****[UPDATED] Winner's bracket advantage/ loser's bracket penalty is as follows: the first place player from the loser's bracket meets the first player from the winners bracket in the grand finals and starts down 0-2 in a best of 5 series.****
The moderator of this thread will be Karnifexlol. We will be checking this thread periodically, but please PM or talk to Karnifexlol if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. You can also e-mail us at support@odyssey-gaming.com.
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN KEYBOARDS, MICE, MOUSEPADS, and HEADSETS as we will not provide any.

$40 registration seems quite high. Good luck to those who enter. Might stop by to check it out

Seems like that now, but I guarantee that once we get the prize pot higher and announce more official sponsors, it won't be a big deal
|
Woot! Stoked for another tournament at Odyssey! They are always a blast! If you don't believe me, do a forum search for Verizon SC2 Open and check out the action from the other one there should be a photo dump in there somewhere. Look forward to seeing you all there! Hit me up with any questions/concerns
|
They've had some pretty great SC2 tournaments =] This time around i'ma participate rather then spectate although i'll probably become a spectator after the first round =/ haha
|
shesh, i think 40 is kinda hefty i will probably go and support/watch, but who knows, i might end up competing.
edit: with the price change, i will almost forsure be competing now, thanks!
|
We have discussed the pricing for OG SC2 Open and we've decided to lower the price to $30, where $15 goes to the host (LAN Center) and $15 goes to the prize pot. This significantly lowers the amount of money for the potential prize pot (from admission fees), but allows players to enter in the tournament at a significantly lower price.
However, we are working with our sponsors to get the event prize pot at the highest possible amount. Again, please keep in mind that the previous SC2 tournament at Odyssey had a prize pot of almost $3,000.00.
Enjoy!

oh damn 3k prize; wow lol who won it last time?

some of my friends aren't attending because the entrance fee is a little steep :/ you could probably count on itsgosu/x6mystik at the very least.
|
ya i remember mystik was here at the last tourney. I complemented him on his headset and cheered him on vs IdrA
|
sick lan. went to the last one in july was legit. try to make it if you can!
|
How does spectating work? Free?
|
I've been in contact with the organizer and he says spectating will be free but most likely limited depending on how packed it gets
|
|
The entrance fee is a little high for people like me who basically just feed the system. I have been to two LANs and enjoyed both of them, however price is definitely keeping me from this one.
|
Spectating will be free, but we'll have limited space.
@streetwise - unfortunately we can't make it any cheaper as the LAN center does have costs to cover for the event. Additionally, with the sponsor support that we are expecting to potentially receive (to support the prize pot), it will be a minimal factor for those who want to compete.
We'll have more updated information in due time.
|
Bumping for great justice! Super stoked for this LAN guys. Last one was epic. Tell your friends
|
great lan, looking mad forward to this

Wait... those computer specs seem like they can't even run the game.... Can they?

Yeah they run the game perfectly fine on high settings... lol

Lol...quad cores aren't enough for SCII? Since when? Game runs great on them on high/ultra.

really no reason to get sarcastic when someone asks an honest question. especially when a lot of non tech savvy people tend to think that intel i3 and above is usually the optimal build especially when you look through the tech support threads... not to mention the other socal lans had better specs(im led to believe) and so it is more unusual then it is common; that being said the cost is a bit steep for me to want to go

Hello there... it is free this time, however, space is limited.

After further evaluation of this event, I've decided to take a different approach. We are guaranteeing a $500 prize pot plus product prizes, while the entrance fee for the tournament is $5.00 online and $10.00 at the door. I am working with our sponsors to up the prize pot even more without adjusting the price on the entrance fee. We're here to provide the SoCal SC2 community with a great fun event and not looking to make a buck (not that we were before). I understand that times are tough and all you guys want to do is compete and have fun. Finally, spectating is free, but space is limited. I hope everyone in the community can make it out and have some fun!

If I remember correctly this thread was announced that there was 40 dollar buy in and people said way to much. If that's the case, and you guys lowered the entry to 10 bucks and made a minimum prize pool of 500, that's really awesome. Ill see if I can attend.

The 2nd day of MLG NYC now conflicts with this tournament! Does that mean I have to miss all of day 2 if I go to this LAN??? Or can I watch it somewhere there?
MLG News
|
Abbadonnergal and I spoke together... thanks to him, we'll have the MLG stream up on a 57" LCD TV while the event is in session! This way you guys can game and watch some matches.
Enjoy!
|
Well, crap, I'm pretty sure I did it right, but when I registered I did pay with paypal, got the receipt, but no confirmation from the OGI site, so I'm not sure if I am registered :x
|
Hey Nightshade, you are registered and confirmed
|
Is this seriously the same time as MLG? ><
|
Yeah MLG Winter in New York
|
yay Lan plus watching MLG in a big screen
|
If I'm not in NY I'll be there.
|
Bump! So stoked. MLG is going to look sick on that big screen.
|
hahaha yeee for the mlg on the screen, i mean isnt that mlg invitational only anyways?
|
|
"The Top 8 finishers from each region in the Online Qualifier will meet up with the Top 8 finishers from Providence 2011. All 32 of these players will have their travel and accomodation expenses paid. The Winter Arena will be streamed live from NYC: details to follow. These 32 players will battle it out for a significant wad of cash and the chance to go straight into Pool Play at the Winter Championships, avoiding its Open Bracket entirely."
Should be epic! :-)

We announced our StarCraft 2 tournament, OG SC2 Open, a week or so ago. Now we have some awesome news that we'd like to share... the event is now officially sponsored by Dolby Laboratories and co-sponsored by Astro Gaming!! We'll be doing some online product giveaways from Dolby/Astro very soon, so be on the lookout for that.
Dolby has generously contributed to the prize pot for the StarCraft 2 tournament. The guaranteed prize pot for the Dolby SC2 Open SoCal tournament is now $1,000.00 with a $5 buy-in online and $10 buy-in at the door!!!!
Honestly, don't miss on your chance to win some cash for playing SC2 as well as some great product from Dolby, Astro Gaming, and our other sponsors

I seriously doubt it, guys. We've always done top 3 in the past. Even with bigger prize pools. With the entry cost so cheap this time around, I kind of doubt it even more. haha. Hope to see you all there all practiced up and ready to go
Also, thanks a lot LaGTT and Primadog for those awesome pics from the last event. I feel so cool being in a few of them

like the harvey mudd LAN had like $300 total to give out but top 8 got money, even if it was like $10 or something for 5th-8th.
|
Getting a list of the casters for you guys, just been so busy.
@ blabber
I feel like doing that just makes the tournament less competitive. I understand we're here to have fun and all, but I think keeping the competition fierce is important. That's just me though.

This looks pretty sick. Must go :3

You do not have a debit or credit card? If you'd like, you can come into the store prior to the event date and pay $5.00 OR you can pay $10 at the door on the day of the event.

so if i pay the fee at door do i still need to register online somehow? or do i do eveything including payment ad rgistration at the door

There is going to be space if I pay at the door right?

I think they have 45computers to hop on and practice when one is free during the day of the tournament, but yeah, no reason the tournament can't have more than 65 people. If there was a limit it would've stopped at 64. or 128/256/etc.

I actually think for a double elimination tournament, 64 players is already a lot and should probably be the max but that is because of my experience in playing in 32 player tournaments that took all day to do double elimination.

Yes, you are right. However, loser's bracket (or winners... I forgot) was Bo3 matches throughout the whole thing... this time it will NOT be like that, so matches will go quickly. Only semi finals, and possibly finals will be Bo3. If winner bracket finalist wins the first match of finals, then he is crowned the winner. If finalist from losers bracket wins first match of finals then it's basically bo3. Standard tournament procedure.

from my understanding that looks accurate

Just updated it to 5 -- sorry for that. Because of time constraints and how the tournament has been setup, it will be a best of 5 instead of 7. That means that the winner of the winner's bracket must win just once to place 1st in the tournament (the first match).

|
Is there a stream for this?
|
ATTN: We have had our IP blacklisted at the moment. We have a Blizzard employee in contact with us and our IP should be whitelisted within at least around 2 hours. Tournament is postponed until then. Axel, we don't have too many accounts online right now. As soon as we do, we'll message you. Sorry for the delay, but it's out of our control.
Thanks for your patience.

Let's just decide the prize pool by having a broodwar tournament.
|
whats the scoop? if this is moved for tomorrow, would the registration be open again? ( or i can actually make it around 530-6 tonight)

Great tournament despite the uncontrollables. Thanks Bobby for pulling through once again.
And special thanks to CableSC, Muffins, Axeltoss, Arken, Brent, CaucasianAsian, antoine, and off hour blizzard staff for coming to our aid when needed. Very appreciative of Frodan and Gwin for being such troopers casting a 17-hour duty. And thanks for all the cool ass people I got to hang out with today.
Without qualifiers, it was a fun lan. Anyone who ever question why go to a local lan is missing out on the fun.

gratz on the successful tourny Bobby!

Change from BO3 to BO1 on the day-of was extremely disappointing.

I am glad we did the change because otherwise, we would have an unexpected two-day event. Getting our IP blacklisted and delaying the tournament three hours really doesn't help. Additionally, 80 competitors and 40 computers doesn't make things any easier, but with the BO1 we were able to pull off the event in one day. Sucks, but we gotta do what we gotta do. Plus, people paid $5 to be in a fun event and lots of people won product in our raffle, so I think it was worthwhile for many.

Thanks Primadog, Gwin, Frodan, the community, and EVERYONE who helped us to get our IP white-listed. Was a super long day, but it was pulled off! Thanks to all the sponsors too for making this happen!
We'll have pics and a video up soon. See you guys in the near future.
I'm beat. See you guys in the near future!

DAMN WOW!! mystik taking it!!
even with random brackets and bo1 for most of the way, i'm kinda surprised that the top 4 was pretty much who should've been top 4!

Yeah, huge shoutout to the system administrator at blizzard who sorted everything out for me when I called. Josh: Saving eSports one tournament at a time!
I want to thank Odyssey Gaming for hosting the event. It is a massive amount of work to put on a live event at a venue and their entire crew worked to make it all happen. Also, Frodan, thanks so much for casting with me for enough hours to kill most people. Also a huge shoutout to Primadog who is "The Man"
Thanks to everyone who tuned in as well!

tournament started at 10 am....
and my first round started at 5 pm, with the immense amounts of bodies, and the unbearable weather..I was simply pissed off at the beginning of the tournament. As soon as I settled in and met some awesome people, things brightened up, and 5 pm eventually came around. Thanks for the event, and it's unfortunate what happened, too bad it couldn't be helped. (

You guys aren't ready to handle 80 players. You'll be better off capping the player pool at 40 or 32.

Yea, seems like the venue needs to be bigger. Overcapacity is a great thing, except for the fact that functionally its horrible. I'm glad it turned out well and people had fun though!

The lan started 1 hour late to begin with and add on the 3-4 hours that we were delayed because of battlenet.

Cap it at 64 makes a lot of sense. Personally, i dislike the final bracket solution that came out as result.

what we need now are PICTURESSS
|
I would love to see the pics
|
Pics coming soon. We'll probably cap at 64 next time...

Exhausting, but we all end up having a lot of fun.
