Welcome to the Korean StarLeague Daily! The KSL is sponsored by own3d.tv and can be viewed as an European event series that features the Korean Pro-Teams. From Monday to Thursday there will be a single player competition. Each of the 8 Pro-Teams will send out one player and they will play each other in a single-elimination tournament-style bracket. All of the games will be best of three. The winning player receives a $100 prize, with $50 going to the runner-up! Friday through Sunday there will be team-matches, which will use a Winner's League format, with the winning team taking home a prize of $200!
Today's Line-Up! Friday, December 2nd 13:00 GMT (+00:00) (Team League):
Sweet. Looking forward to the team league even more than the 1v1 competition. I hope teams send out their stars and not just their bench players, but even if they don't it will be a good chance to see some of the lesser known Koreans out there.

Wish it were a bit earlier. I do tend to stay awake until 7 or 8am EST most nights but then watching a few hours of games at that point is complete overkill. >_<

I have already mentioned this to the guy I have spoken to from the KSL, I think a lot of people want to see a ProLeague style Korean league.

Not me. Winner's league style is more exciting. I like watching potential all kills or someone going on a streak. All the NA tourneys like EG master's, gosu, etc use pro league format and I don't find it as exciting to watch. I hope the KSL doesn't get a false impression that people want to see pro league format. Of course I don't have the facts which is more popular either, but would hate for them to be persuaded just cause you tell them people want pro league, which may or may not be true. Think a poll may be needed.

Non korean teams are fairly small when you compaire them to korean teams. I wouldnt find it that much fun either to watch proleague style for thoes as i pretty much know most of the players being fielded. But korean teams are in general rather large and the system gives a chance for the lesser known players to get fielded from both teams. Pretty much why i want to see less winners league in korea as its all that have been shown so far in SC2.

All I said was
have you considered running the Team portion of the KSL broadcasts in ProLeague format, rather than Winner's League format? It would really give the KSL a more unique feel to it in Starcraft 2.
Really more of a personal opinion than enforcing strong public opinion haha.
Really looking forward to this. Love team leagues, and when it's Koreans vs. Koreans you don't know who's gonna come out on top. I'm expecting like 3 B teamers mixed in with maybe 1-2 A teamers, but honestly Startale isn't that big of a team, and Prime sends out their "B team" all the time.

Thanks for letting him know. SC2 (in Korea at least) really has lacked in a proper Proleague style team league.

Could you please explain how this system works? I know each person gets to play 1 game regardless of winning or losing, but how do they pick who gets to play and when?
I'm asking this because if everything was predetermined before the match, luck would be a huge factor in this format, I don't like that.

Well the next player is chosen from each of the teams after a match is finished, and most commonly the maps are pre-determined so a lot of the player strategy goes into that.

Who gets to choose first? Or do they announce the chosen players at the same time?
If so, Isn't it very luck dependant? I could see a scenario where a team goes "Ok, I'll send this TvT specialist and I hope they send out a Terran".

They choose based on which race seems better for that match up or which player is most confident on that map. And yeah I believe they submit the players who they're going to pick independent of the other team's choice. Some seasons ago the BW Proleague released the matchups prior to them being played (so players could actually prepare before hand). But recently they've kept it under wraps so that no match fixing can take place.
Also, that the part you say about luck dependence is one of the attractive factors. Players need to be all-rounded enough to play all 3 match-ups. It kinda rewards skill a bit more rather than just pure strategy alone.

Well everywhere seems to be listed at 5games, so I'm not sure if that means it's first to 5 wins, or whether it's only a 5 game max. I'd have presumed 5 wins, but a 5 game max would have made Bomber ST's ace which would make some sense too.
Cool match now, going to be tough for Bomber playing Creator on Calm imo.

Julyzerg on Crossfire. Well that should be a mapwin. I don't think Protoss can win vs Zerg here without doing some fancy stuff, and... well Creator isn't the guy for fancy stuff i think. :o

According to liquipedia, it's ZvP: 19-13(59.4%) so yeah advantage to the zerg, but still some chance to win
Wow, it seems July had the same thoughts as I did, but Creator doing some fancy Nexus Cancel Stuff and going for a nice killmove. Creator is a smart player, he knew he has little chances in the midgame with all the counter attacks, so a very good choice and punishing greedy julyzerg!

PvT on Calm that goes beyond 3 Bases is basically a Toss Autowin on that Map especially since i was 1 Rax expand vs Nexus first which puts you super behind since you can't apply pressure.

Yeah, Bomber's TvP being good is months old (same with Polt's).
I guess that's true. Did Creator do his double forge build? I guess the map was calm before the storm so it's easy 3 bases
Yeah it was just very solid double forge macro game, Creator could turtle enough that Bomber was unable to do anything with drops, and then when they engaged Bomber was at 200 to about 160 supply but Creator was at 2-2 vs 1-1 and had nice defensive positioning so ended up coming out with about 140 v 120 in his favour.

Are there any Korean terrans who are good at TvP right now?
Well, MVP beat MC 4-2 and HerO 2-0 at Providence quite convincingly. Jjakji crushed Puzzle 3-0 in the GSL, with a few interesting builds. PuMa still seems really strong at TvP going by his DH performance.
There are definitely Terrans that can more than compete. I'm really enjoying the 2 base mech pushes that are popping up lately.

It's so map dependant. If you got good maps on which you can play macro games, the "old" good TvPers are good, if you got some weird maps (daybreak, calm before the storm, etc) I guess Jjakji, Polt and MKP are the best with their builds & execution

imo, he already established himself as one of their better players during GSTL season 1 - and I'm sure there are some creator fans who'd seen him doing well even before that.
he's the best protoss on Prime.

That's ladder, and ladder maps are way different from GSL maps which don't favor MKP's style. A lot of "early game" players do really well on ladder like alive, but you can tell a lot of them aren't super strong with late game management.

Of course he is almost unbeatable on ladder, with ladder maps his execution can win him as many games as he wants. It has to do with the maps more than anything else imo

Not really, he did well in WCG too, he almost always lose to Mvp, or bo1 groupstages, but yes he plays safer offline than online, may affect his results quite a bit.
If you are Protoss or Zerg, you SHOULD be frightened of Marineking, whoever you are. It needs a really good TvT Player to beat Marineking in a Bo Series. That he fails to MVP, well it might be mentality at some point, but nevertheless MVP is best TvT player in the world by far, so no shame that he keeps losing to him (in his weakest MU), as nearly everyone does. People saying that are seeing themselves as favorite against Marineking are either TvT experts or just dumb.

So? He still loses online tournies, it's not like he's unbeatable like you say at all. Also, I've watched those games, and it's not like he executes better than I see him at live tournaments. His opponents are just much more prepared. He's made it to enough LAN finals to the point where you can't discern performance quality, but his opponents in the live finals are typically 10x better like MVP.

Where did I say he is unbeatable?
"He is almost unbeatable on ladder"
Idk why I'm bothering to talk about this when he didn't even play today, but he has really volatile results because of his builds. It's really not a mystery, but he's had success in high pressure situations like up and down, and gotten deep enough in live tournaments to the point where I'll say he doesn't have nerve issues.
Same with Bomber. He's said so himself that he doesn't have any issues with nerves, and I've never heard of MKP saying anything about it either so people should stop speculating random things like that. The only thing I've heard MKP say is how good of a player MVP is.
I don't think MKP has nerve issues. You don't make so many deep run into GSL finals if you have serious nerve issues. But i certainly don't think he has a strong mental aspect to him, in that sense that a loss in a series can rattle him really hard or that he can screw up leads.
When mkp's good, he's really really good. When he's bad, he's really really bad. That's why he can make us fans either high or want to bash our heads on a wall. That said, i don't think his problem is nerve issues or weak mentality. His problem is Mvp.

No his mental strength was not the best, not just Mvp. He himself said (to Polt at least) that he got overconfident in his semi-final against MMA, and threw away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2. He improved quite a lot on it tho (see his extended serie against sC in providence for example), I think that if he improves his tvt to the level of Mvp's one, he will have the mental strenght necessary to beat him.
Anyways it was a great clanwar, but I'm a bit disappointed by the number of protoss/zerg used by both teams, I wanted to see some terran action t;t. Khaldor and ToD did a great job, ToD's commentary is as amazing as always (remember HSC 2? :D). CreatorPrime displaying his skills again, this young protoss gonna go far in the future (he already helped Prime A LOT in GSTL playoff)

Probably stage fright, happens to alot of players (MarineKing springs to mind)
MarineKing doesn't have any stage fright, nor camera fright edit : Mvp fright != stage fright
Actually many korean pros are saying that (source Artosis, god of everything) MKP is not that frightening IRL, but on the ladder he's almost unbeatable.
That's ladder, and ladder maps are way different from GSL maps which don't favor MKP's style.
He raped AOL 1 aswell and this was not on ladder maps. He won because he is better at his home/teamhouse playing online Tournaments.
Dude.... the internet isn't one big person talking to you and you can't exactly attribute one person's quote to another guy.

No his mental strength was not the best, not just Mvp. He himself said (to Polt at least) that he got overconfident in his semi-final against MMA, and threw away a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2. He improved quite a lot on it tho (see his extended serie against sC in prov wouldn'tidence for example), I think that if he improves his tvt to the level of Mvp's one, he will have the mental strenght necessary to beat him.
Anyways it was a great clanwar, but I'm a bit disappointed by the number of protoss/zerg used by both teams, I wanted to see some terran action t;t. I wouldn't call him mentally weak. Because if he is that he will never get in deep. I would say that when he's focused he is strong. What he is is young and maybe immature. Still unstable and subject to bouts of insecurity. Esp. after losing to Mvp.
Edit: I'm glad to see more players from prime growing into their own.
