Extended series is making this match less exciting for me

Forum Index > StarCraft 2 Tournaments |
Here we go again. This weekend is about good games and good fun. Don't rain on that parade. Play nice guys. Here's the very standard and friendly: - NO Balance Whine. - NO Player Bashing. - NO Caster Bashing. - NO BM whatsoever. Breaking these rules (from pg 166 forward) will be met with severe punishment.

I know, but beating the best players in the world head to head does. Its just so rare that 1 player faces and beats all of them in the same tourney run. It's one thing to win a tourney while getting a great lineup, but Naniwa has beaten the best players in the world each of the past 3 days. Who would you pick to beat him right now? Nestea? MVP? DRG? MMA? MC? Huk? Leenock? Taeja? FXOLucky and Check Lol, well done well done. I suspect there is something about the GSL that just gets to nani and prevents him from playing to the best of his ability or maybe theres something about MLG that doesn`t have the koreans play to the best of their ability. To be fair for both foregners and koreans both tournaments are so vastly different.

No, Leenock would need to win 2 sets against Naniwa, while Naniwa would need to win only 1 set. It's double elimination, which means everyone gets to lose 1 set, Leenock already lost 1 set this tournament, Naniwa has yet to drop a set.

Why? :_S Not trying to be racist at all here, but I have several friends from Stockholm and they all kinda act like that. Theyre great dudes but they come off as very weird/awkward until you get to know them(some even after you know them). From my experience at least, Swedes like Jinro seem to be the minority. Aye, we're an awkward country with awkward people. It's got to do with Jante-lagen, get one of your swedish friends to explain that one to you >.> Haha will do. The only time i was ever in Sweden i was too young to remember anything about it, but my friends always tell me things that are kinda funny(to me at least). I thought it was hilarious that my friend was studying to become a "Landmeister"(sp?) and had classes with the prince of sweden. Guys a friend on mine is swedish, and he´s kinda the most charismatic and outgoing person i know. Dont generalize this ![]() oh idd, Naniwa is in no way the typical swede :p quite the opposite imo. but hey, I cant really be objective now can I. Naniwa isn't typical, no, but there's a certain northern reserved disposition that's common all throughout Northern Europe. pretty damn rare in younger generations I would say

Praying for Leenock to win so we have a proper final! Leenock would still have to win two Bo3's while Naniwa would have to win one. MLG uses a proper implementation of double elimination, that's how it works. What? MLG has never worked like that. They just put Nani up 2 games in a BO7. They've always worked like that, if a player has not encountered another player, the Winner's Bracket finalist has to win 1 Bo3 while the Loser's Bracket finalist has to win 2 Bo3s, that's how double elimination works. That's what happened with MMA vs MVP. Nope, it's an extended series and Nani is already up 2-0. Are you reading what I'm posting, or just blindly responding? If it's Naniwa vs DongRaeGu then it's an extended series with Naniwa up 2-0. If it's Naniwa vs Leenock it's 2 Bo3s with Naniwa having to win one and Leenock having to win two. That is how it's always been, go look up the Anaheim finals, MVP beat MMA 2-1 because he only had to win 1 Bo3. There is no extended purple, the VODs will reflect the same. I got the posts mixed up, while skimming and for some reason thought it was about DRG, there obviously can't be an extended series without a series to extend.

I think its plausible that Naniwa is the best player in the world right now, I don't know what else to conclude from these results. One tourney doesn't make you the best player? Nor does repeatedly failing to get out of Code A. I have the nasty feeling Naniwa is going to win, and ride his hype train right into another GSL brick wall. It's a bad habit for MLG winners. The problem with MLG is that the format makes it so that you can't say "this player all these players in this tournament" because certain players are given such favorable circumstances. Both naniwa and DRG had really good seeds, and Naniwa only had to win 3 series to get to where he is. Sure, take his series over the tournament as good wins over top players, but it's not like he bested them in a 64 player tournament where he had to win from the starting line. And for people saying he "deserved the seed and the advantage for previous MLGs", but sorry, in no way should you be given ridiculous advantages such as this just for showing up to the other MLGs. He basically had 1 good performance like a year ago against no koreans, then just got like 7th+ at the others. He won the Global Invitational under the same circumstances as Nestea, MVP and Idra. Also it doesn't delegitimize the win. Even in GSL it's very rare for there to be games played under fully-optimal conditions for both players. (they have to get used to the booth, they might be sick or slept badly, jetlag, computer settings weird, etc).
