Yes it was. the extra range makes immortals harder to target with MC's stalkers because it's behind all the other units.

If its closer it is easier to kill. This ain't rocket sciene people. If that first immortal gets caught out of position the entire game could've changed

The increased Immortal range was a pretty big help.

It didn't make that much of a difference, by the time the second Immortal was out MC had already lost.

Of course it was. The 1st immortal was behind stalkers and lived a lot longer than it would have pre-1.4...add the fact that vision up ramp was reduced, and it's super clear to anyone above bronze that patch 1.4 mattered a lot.

From what I've gathered from around 50 unit tests that if the gas used is equal the phoenix will always win. The closer that mutalisk get to the same mineral consumption the better chance they have to win engagements. With good to above average micro or a good spread of phoenix the more likely they will beat out bigger amounts of mutalisk.

if your opponent mass muta and you mass phoenixes in response all the time, you'll die to zerglings and ground attacks because phoenixes can't attack ground while mutas can.

Not to mention no Zerg above platinum will mine the same amount of gas as Protoss.

Phoenix cant hit ground unit (energy can runout and they are cute in big battle only) and their biggest weakness is not being able to attack building. Why mutalisks harass is more annoying, and you cant produce phoenix fast enough as mutas.

The big difference is the production rate I'd say. Commiting to more than one stargate is a big deal while zerg can choose to use all larvae on mutas or something else depending on the situation while only building a spire
