I think we can settle down on the hype already. the flaws in his builds have been exposed for quite a while, whether by discussion in the ice fisher build thread, sotg, and by several -lesser than gositerran- players he loses to decisively on ladder. the hype is for the concepts/ideas behind the style, not for his execution of it, or particular build orders. true, there is also some hype for the guy himself, because he's a very young talent, a swell guy, and that is justified too, because for all his flaws with decision making and general understanding of matchups, he managed to get to such a high level of play with basically just laddering, and doing a completely unique style with very solid concepts behind it. as with any style and upcoming player, there has to be evolution from exposed flaws and improvement through high-level sustained practice. if he can get rolling on that, he's bound for sc2 glory. even if not, he's still hella entertaining to watch so well worth any hype he gets ![]()

Just a quick snippet of what I mean from what I remember: Game 2: The point of nydus in this style is to make a would be immobile army extremely mobile, it should only be used for offensive (especially in opponents base) purposes in rare cases where the opportunity truly presents itself. The attack in game 2 was not one. The threat of offensive potential is enough for the terran to take up a centralized siege position. Not only did he attack into a terrible choke, but it was a position fortified with a PF and a plethora of siege tanks. He had no need to deny that base, the correct move would have been to keep his Ultra/Queen Defensive threat and expand to the bottom left half of the map with worms at each base. The drops would have been easily denied if the worms went up as the expos were going up. That's just a basic explanation from what I remember, I can break it down much more in depth with the VOD/Replay in front of me.

The hype over Spanishiwa isn't that he's the best Zerg player in NA, not that this build is really impressive. It's more the fact that as such a young & entertaining player; anyone who has watched his stream will already know how he interacts with his viewers, as well as the fact he has a really good game sense. If he polished his mechanics some more, he could compete with the highest level of players (As seen from the fact he's already GM). Just watching him ladder is quite entertaining due his quick thinking and attempts at reacting to whatever the opponent throws him. Games where he gets all-ined, barely repels it but is contained. Then sneaks several infestors into the enemy's mineral line to fungal growth the workers to bring himself back in the game. Games like these is what has earned him this hype. This isn't to say he's unstoppable, there are also a fair number of games where he simply loses due to certain aspects that he's not entirely great at stopping, i.e. constant drops+harass.

Mutas grant serious map control. He NEVER makes Mutas and therefore he's completely countered by crippling drops everywhere.

Close enough. I think my prediction was pretty accurate though. On May 07 2011 09:33 Engore wrote: Hmm. Wonder if this gains him any respect with the community. No. It doesn't. There was never a question of his skill/potential, he's always been insanely good. But time and time again he proves that the community should not take him seriously as a person.

As far as Spanishiwa losing, many of the posts here seem... odd... to me. So, Spanishiwa starts doing these best of 7's the last month and beats Root.Minigun, And VTSpades and Kawaiirice and even TLO... Then he finally loses a series against a very good player and people jump out of the woodwork saying, "See! I told you this style was not viable!" Um... What? Like a poster above said, I think Spanishiwa is still to be lauded for bringing attention to more ways of playing Zerg. Also, in listening to him on his stream, I wish more people around here were even HALF as polite and well-mannered as he seems to be.
