I really don't know how people think that complaining about not liking a caster is valid. Guess what, you can't win them all. That's why they invited four casters.
Do people really expect every single thing to be tailor-made for them?

Meh underwhelming prize pool and player list, why do all the tournaments in NA insist of being invitationals? what is this a popularity contest where you invite your friends, the 2 main guys are from root and what a suprise 4 root players, also 4 EG players , could have had a bit more team diversity IMO. I look forward to future seasons where top players have a chance to qualify, but the first season is pretty underwhelming, and it doesnt really make sense to make the first season like this and see how it does and add more money from there, you should start the first season with a bang (take a slight risk in investment) and try and attract as many viewers as possible and go fromm there bigger risk = bigger rewards IGN seems to be playing it super safe, but i could go either way on watching 90% of these players play so probably count me out for the first season for most of the games.

The future tournaments will have open tournaments to determine 16 spots. This is just the first tournament for them to test stuff.

The first tournament is only 16 players though, so does that mean that all those players have an automatic seat in season 2? i read somewhere it will be a 32 player tournament in season 2.

Like the other guy said this is all spelled out in the Q/A part.

season 2 will be top 4 + 28 qualifiers, season 3+ will be top 16 + 16 qualifiers

Thats actually pretty good then beyond the first season, top 4 players of that tournament obviously should be pretty high quality, i could see kiwi select and other random 2. Thats not bad at all i look forward to season 2 after the open qualifiers. Im interested to see weather the open qualifiers will be completely international or not (as in including korea :D)

I like how IGN is doing a "test tournament" of sorts before launching the big league, so they can get all the bumps and kinks worked out when there isn't a huge sum of money on the line.

I'm really excited for this =D. I think IGN's name will help a ton in popularizing the IPL and introducing new people into the world of SC2 ESPORTS.

Keeping it at a low level really doesn't appeal to anyone who takes the game seriously imo.

Non-players do not take the game seriously and play-by-play is what the majority of not only eSports but also real sports spectators watch for. The idea that analysis is the be-all and end-all of commentary is an attitude that exists almost exclusively on TL and nowhere else. If you want to bring in new people into the scene by exploiting a vast opportunity to market on one of the biggest gaming networks there is, you will use casters with proven mainstream appeal and the ability to pull big VoD numbers on a reliable basis.

Sports would not be where it is today, the multi-billion dollar industry, without an army of millions of casual viewers. eSports will not grow without getting it's own casual army either.

Q: Are all the games going to be cast in the earlier rounds or only a selected few?

A: All games will be cast.

Q: Will there be an organized VOD list like the GSL or is it justin.tv stream only?

A: As of right now, the plan is there will be links from the bracket to each VOD.

Yeah, it should really be at least shown on the front page.

Maybe they want to see what type of response they get from the grass roots community before they go public on it or maybe they're not fully willing to commit to it with out good results from a first season.

Great decision to do a "test-run" before starting with the big leagues, wish more people did this.

I really like the idea of having this first season be sort of a test for the future. They can experiment, see what works and what doesn't and adjust for when they run the bigger seasons. I hope everything runs smoothly and the league is a big success!

The production looks incredibly slick and I'm really excited to see what happens. One concern though:

Sure Spades, Agh, Machine and ViBe are good players, but to pick them up instead of players like Tyler, TLO and HayprO seems a little misguided, especially when ROOT, EG and Dignitas all have at least one player (in 2 of those, 4 or more). To exclude one of the most consistent teams seems rather perplexing when you also consider how popular they are. I can already tell you that many of the Round 1 games will have smaller showings simply because there seems to be only one big name in each match (or two less well known names). Adding a few Liquid players would have brought a lot more interest to the tournament.

TLO, Haypro are from Europe. Tyler declined the invite. Only one left is HUK and he has Code S to play.

ah, thanks for clearing that up.

We were mentioned in today's Daily Fix, but keep in mind that IGN is a huge site and we're just one part of it. Be assured though that many people at IGN are aware of this and are very excited!

I agree but you also can't scrape aside the people that made the community what it is today to only appeal to the mainstream, and it's not exclusive to the TL community i.e. CS 1.6 - CS:S, Quake and WoW.

Dear people of the internet,

You cannot have casted games, and show them live. If you cast games live on the internet as they are happening, the players (who are going to be playing from home) can just log on the stream and stare at exactly what their opponent is doing.

"But they would never do such a thing!" LOL. Ok I challenge you to a live match where the winner gets 5-$100,000, and there will be a stream of the event as well as casters saying exactly what I am doing...

YOU WOULD BE RETARDED to not get on that stream with another screen and take that insane amount of cash. That's your livelihood man.

You have to stream replays because its the only way to battle the cheating that would take place. People cheated like this throughout the entire beta in live cast online tournaments. This is why they cant provide live matches, where money is involved.

Thanks for your time,
A person who is sick of this same complaint.
