Why? it's his biggest prize from a tournament in a while right? and 500 dollars is not a small amount at all, we've just been spoiled with all these ridiculous prize pools lately^^
That list is far from accurate for a lot of players and most have additional incomes beside tournament winnings.
Some people coach, for example InControl.
On another note: 500 bucks is shit lol, considering the time these guys put preparing, and actually playing for those 3 days. Not to mention the cost put in, travel, hotel etc., AND on top of that, there aren't THAT many tournaments a year.
coaching and endorsements.
but still pretty sad how small the MLG payouts are. i just watched this video: and in 1 morning this guy made more than everybody other than MC from sc2 tournaments. and look how low his APM is!
It's been said a lot of times, with poker you're risking a lot of money to make money, so it's natural that the reward is higher.

That DOES(edit) have the group stages in it but not the open bracket. You should know though that a lot of the replays are missing from the MLG site =\

He is risking a lot of money tho.
And professional gamers risk a lot of time in order to train and compete.

Time and hard work does not equal money. It's not right or fair at all but it's the way of the world, unfortunately.
It's too bad MLG doesn't release VODs like GSL or other tournaments do. It's like you either catch it live (which was relatively difficult this time due to all the problems) or completely miss it and have to resort to replays or random bits and pieces from clips people put on YouTube. It'd be great if MLG put out nice, organized VODs, even if you had to buy a ticket for it.
I know there's some VODs from random games from some of the 2010 MLG's, but not a complete Friday to Sunday coverage of the entire event exactly as it was shown live.

They do put out VODS, for free too. It just takes a while (1 week I believe) for them to get out.

Of everything that was shown on the live stream, though? Because I remember looking through the VODs from the previous seasons and it only seemed like select games and not everything that was broadcasted. I guess I should have been more clear because I was aware of them putting up VODs, I just didn't think they put up everything.
Maybe they do and I didn't know. I thought it was just some.
Why is there even this whole loser bracket thing to begin with? It seems a bit weird to me. Just seems like it's an excuse to give someone who loses a second chance to make it back. Is there a good valid reason?
^ That's the whole point of double-elimination tournaments, to give someone who deserves to "come back" the ability to. Accurate results come from more games. The best player in the tournament could just have a bad first match-up, maybe maps he isn't good at, maybe not properly warmed-up, or whatever, and lose his first match-up and get eliminated. With double-elimination, it gives this player the chance to prove himself by making his way up in the losers bracket and eventually meet back up with the winner of the winners bracket. It just helps find the true best player.
I for one love double-elimination over single-. There's just more games/content to watch and I feel like the best players have the opportunity to place where they deserve to be placed.
Anyone know the map sequence of the entire Kiwikaki vs Naniwa extended series? I'd like to know an accurate one, as MLG has Metalopolis listed twice between the two series, which I know is impossible.
