if its a server issue, then it makes me wonder if they have consulting/contracting with a major networking company such as Cisco. Its not like this scale of bandwidth usage is immeasurably big, it pales in comparison to any major corporate website.
Hell if location was an issue, they should setup a stable server somewhere in the US, upload streams there then use that location as their server base. I can only imagine that they have everything running directly to the venue and that they probably didn't invest in an architected solution. With the amount of viewership they have and the fact that connectivity is their major crux, this should be a no brainer.
At the very least, someone needs to tell the MLG head that they need to hire someone who actually knows how to run a business
Thats not really the issue they've been having. Their intranet is fine and working normally; the stream is at least decent and I haven't had any real downtime today. Their problem is getting the game data to the Internet.
Since people are playing so many games at once there is a ton of up/down traffic going out to their ISP and then being routed right back into the building. Routing through an external server wouldn't help this, getting a stronger intranet wouldn't help this, but having a LAN solution would, having a Blizzard server on their intranet would, and getting a better ISP would of course help.

And now this:
The Open Losers Bracket action is getting intense as the player field continues to narrow down. OLR4 is getting underway, with headline matches such as Destiny vs Axslav, Muder vs Whiplash and Inka vs Titan leading the way.
I am still confused. Anyone who is good with tech-stuff can explain or guess what is their REAL problem? I just can't connect dots. Stream of audience is working, studio stream is working, people are playing games almost all the time but we can't watch games because of internet problems... I just don't get it.
Seems pretty simple to me,
1) Theyre upload bandwith sucks. or, 2) The PCs they are using to stream the games to the masses (the Observer account) suck ass and are not capable of streaming to the masses. (set up wrong, not 6 core with 6gb/ram etc)
As we see, the off-stream play seems to be fine, its as if theyre internet provider is throttling theyre uplaod. Theyre ouputting the stream at something like 360p for christs sake, they dotn even need a decent pc to get that out, i can stream on my home pc @ 1080p.
I wonder how this event would have gone if they had used Justintv or Own3d like IEM use, This Infinity stream is very poor, i like how you get to see the casters at 480p but the game at 260/320p, very very poor indeed.

Again it sucks, but it really is a fine line of what the hell do you do.... It's sucks for us, it sucks for MLG. But it's not an easy fix either, they are probably on the call with their ISP and trying to get something worked out, but in the end they probably don't have a big enough pipe to their site. I would love to see the utilization charts on their main routers, I bet it's 100%.. For them to pay to have that increased when they only use that site for a weekend isn't worth it....
It is called an investment, and It would be well worth it as long as they make profit after paying overhead costs and what not, it seems they sold a LOT of season tickets, so chances are the cost would make up the means, and who says they can't host two events in the same city int he year and bring in even more money?
To have an event for a few days, it is not worth the investment, I'm sorry it is not. I work for GE and the amount of money some of our sites have to pay for just a bundle of 5 T1s is insane. That is a 7.5 mb up and down connection and that is thousands of dollars a month... I honestly don't know what the traffic hitting that site is, but I think it would need a big pipe...
You are quite naive. The amount of money MLG is losing right now via customer, player and sponsor dissatisfaction is orders of magnitute more than a measly few thousand dollars for a proper internet connection.
I would like to know how you quantified this loss that is orders of magnitude more than a few thousand dollars.

Not really, MLG has had bad/unrealiable streams and ridiculous delays for years now (even pre SC2) and it's still going. People always forget about it and only remember when the next MLG is on LOL

Maybe so, but retards like MLG being the face of western E-sports is holding us back even more.
No need to call them or the organization that name. It's one event of many and it isn't like this is the result of some great evil conspiracy. Crap internet happens. And since when did MLG become the face of western esports? They have potential to be a huge contributor, but I would not dub them the face of esports.

lol no he didn't. one it was an old tweet, two its only 2:35 PST
Actually, it is (was) 2:35 PDT. PST stands for Pacific STANDARD Time, but almost everyone uses it regardless of it being daylight savings time or not. A pet peeve of mine that almost never matters, except when people from other time zones use the internet to look up time conversions.
