Having been to a lan-party in the iSchool lab before, space is definately an issue and 32 really would be the max.
I also like the idea of the 1 month ladder run ups, it involves more games and especially as they are ladder games, it's easy to participate in. It's a fair way to determine seeding, and it's sick to have a cool event actually in Seattle.
Plus you can sign up up til like the 23rd, so if you know a week before that you can make it, you can play a ton of games and climb the ladder easily. (If we can get 32 people to sign up!)

Thanks Panzer,
You took the words out of my mouth with that response. We do have a space issue with the iSchool's lab, and we chose to run the Ladder to allow our competitors to play more games and hopefully feel more involved in the community before and after the tournament.
We've gotten mixed reviews, some players love it, and for some it's a turn off. But the players on the ladder already are enjoying it...
And you can't argue with the prize pool

Hey mockturtle,
What do you mean by being forced to choose way in advance turns it into a no? In my opinion, the tournament format is nice in a way that it attempts to build a community around the tournament itself. There is no penalty for losing as of now, but you will be able to catch up rather quickly if you win against the players in the tournament. What I like about the ladder is I can get points from playing other players in battle.net as long as I validate my replays. Even though I'm joining just for fun, this gives me more chances to win since I will be randomly matched with players similar at my own level (bronze, rofl). Hopefully you will be able to enjoy the tournament too bro, good luck have fun!

I could not agree more bro. It's so nice to play at my own time and convenience. I can submit replay and watch my standing move around in the ladder. Unlike other tournaments where I have to set up meeting times and things with other people, this is much easier. Although I might be able to get some points off of someone not showing up in normal tournaments ;p haha

Hey! I created an account on the website, but didn't pay to enter the tournament. I had a couple of people I'd never spoken to before challenge me out of nowhere. I went back to the website, and somehow, I'm on the ladder anyways! How did that happen? I'll consider actually competing if you let me, but as it is I'm not really sure what's going on, and I'd imagine that it's not really fair to the people that did pay.
EDIT: Never mind, I get it now. I'm not in the tournament proper, just on the registered users list. So players in the tournament can challenge registered users to get points? Interesting.

It's not byoc at all, you'll be playing on computers provided (but you are welcome to bring your own mouse/keyboard)

That is correct. If you are registered in the tournament proper, you can play anyone with an account on Yoi for points. But if you are not in the tournament proper, you're obviously not in the ladder, and cannot submit replays until you.
We chose to go this way to encourage people to challenge you, and so that if you can feel what it's like to be a part of the community before deciding to join the tournament. Hope to see you on the ladder soon!

Can we invite other people to watch us play if we make it to the final rounds?

Of course! In fact we encourage it, and spectators are free. The more the merrier.

Hey guys,
I saw this notification on yoigaming website, and I should pass this on to you guys.
Thanks to MoeLuster, he has graciously volunteered to host a channel for everyone to find/play their Yoi matches (the ones worth 15 points).
As of right now the channel is "YoiGaming Channel."
We all should try to meet up in that channel and maybe get some (15) points! Good luck and have fun guys.

I live in the Seattle area and really want to attend this even, but I have a few questions.
I'm not really clear what this 'ladder' thing is. Here's what I think you guys mean:
Find other Yoi! Gaming members and submit a replay if the game is won with 'gl hf yoigaming' typed in the beginning of the match?
Do we find Yoi! Gaming members from http://www.yoigaming.com? And we can only play 1 game with them? And if we lose, we don't get any points?!?!? And I can get points if I go laddering on the StarCraft 2 laddering system and submitting the replays?
What are the points for anyway? I understand that the top 32 ladderers will go to the tournament, but what if there isn't even 32 people in the ladder?
Sorry, I'm just really confused, lol

I understand computers will be provided, however, CAN we bring our own to play on? im used to playing on a tiny laptop and switching to a regular computer monitor will most likely effect my performance.

Yes you "can" bring your own computer, provided it has wi-fi and can connect to the University of Washington's network. If you are a UW student, feel free to use your own UW net-id. If you are not a UW student, we ask that you let us know a head of time if you are bringing your own computer, because we will need to provide you with a guest login account to access the network. We will also need to check your computer for 3rd party modifications to the SC2 client, as our terms of use for the tournament prohibit any form of 3rd party software.
Also, we are not responsible for connectivity issues or hardware malfunctions if you are using you own computer.
If you're okay with these guidelines, then yes, feel free to bring your own computer!

I think you will get 15 points by winning against people who are registered in the ladder.
You can also get points if you play against people in battle.net through the quick matches mode, but you have to type "gl hf yoigaming" at the beginning of the game to claim tourney points (to validate your replay was intended for this tourney). You will get 3 points for this.
And I believe you can only claim points once from the same person, but we are always free to play each other as many times as we want, just like a gamer's community in general.
Yes you don't get any points if you lose, but as of now I'm pretty sure you don't get penalized either.
Actually, I wonder about your question too Bullet. Although the chances not enough people signing up is slim, what happens if there is not 32 players registered by the night before the final event? Do you guys offer walk-ins? or will you invite famous players? etc?

Hey Guys,
All good questions. VermoutH answered your questions right on. You can't play yoigaming members (or anyone) more than once for tournament credit. It prevents 2 people from exploiting the ladder by playing each other over and over again.
IF there are not 32 players registered in the ladder by the day before the tournament, whoever is registered for the tournament will be invited to play. If there is an uneven number invited to play, the first bi-matches will be assigned by ladder ranking.
However, we do have 27 people signed up for the tournament as of right now, so the chance of not filling the 32 spots is small.
