Players such as Jinro, HuK, and Adelscott did not apply for this tour, so don't ask why they aren't on this list. DIMAGA, Kas, and LaLush turned applications in late so they will not appear either. Please take some time to learn who exactly applied. Please inform yourself about who applied and who didn't. |
BTW to the Zlashers of the thread (who seem to be really worked up) you don't have to blindly support NASL due to the esports tag. If the goal of your rhetoric, however, is simply to help improve the league - you can do it privately. Emails or PMs are easy ways to communicate your concerns and questions. The NASL should have private avenues in place for feedback.
Conversing on a fan forum has a tendency to turn small hiccups into all-consuming shit storms. I'm all for open discussion, but some of the issues presented have been beaten over the head already.
Also, until you attempt to run something as big and complicated as the NASL, tone it down a bit. Offer constructive criticism in a calm, polite, and mature manner. I wasn't happy with the showmatch's hype and the resulting production value. I voiced that opinion on the forum, probably in a less than optimal way, and I'm not sure it had anymore usefulness than a short email would have.
Nobody is saying blindly support the NASL, but you should AT LEAST go easy on them. Minigun has a point, we all want this thing to succeed. Unless you see a glaring mistake (like the showmatch was for me) then just let it go or mention it in an email or PM. I'd much rather apply a little blind faith in this situation and have this league be a success, then aggressively question it at every turn in an attempt to "make it better". They're running the league (not you) and I'm sure they know when they make a mistake LONG before you address it.
Just my 2 cents.

Well there wasn't too much to say between them two before TSL3 from what I understand, other than IdrA being positive he would roll Cruncher.

People, there's only 50 places. Not everyone is going to get in.
Last time I checked, this is only the first season.

He's just a better player, offering better results, more compelling play, great strategies and is overall an awesome player to watch.
Plus, being from UK he's a player that increases diversity, and allows a country that is normally not so hot on e-sports to have someone to root for.
On the whole NightEnd issue. It is the tournament's organizers responsibility to state ALL the conditions required to sign the contracts in question. I find it unbelievable that Xeris is justifying their mistake based on BRAT_OK's manager's managerial acumen.
Xeris, you should remember that most of these players do not have that kind of managers, and that, whenever a person starts something requiring an application process, the conditions to be met must be fully detailed. This is actually a HUGE mistake by NASL's organization, it's sort of a sentinel mistake, in that it reveals that there's a problem with how things are being done.
The damage is already done though, all you can do is look to the future and ensure it won't be happening again, but you should definitely recognize this is a managerial mistake by NASL, since nightend had no way to know this could be an issue. Basically what I'm saying is, that while RoX_KiS manager's attitude is good, and commendable, you can't expect everyone to act in the same way, since conditions are different for different players, this is why the minimum the organization can do is state is full detail every condition needed to apply. When NightEnd was informed that the finals will take place in the USA he should have realized that he would need a Visa. It's pretty damn obvious. RoX_KiS's manager knows what must be done because he is better at his job. It is not Xeris fault that NightEnd or his manager don't know the basic knowledge of foreign travel, especially when applying to a league that has the finals in a foreign country to him. Yes, and nightend TOLD THEM he wouldnt have any issues getting a VISA, if NASL wanted more than that (an ACTUAL visa) they should have asked so, and not just sat there and once the selection is done turn around and tell him ''oh btw we needed a visa so youre cut'' Implying that Nighend or his manager dont know how travelling word is a baseless statement, obviously they know how this works, but actually knowing that you require to ''already have a visa in case you get selected in the 50'' is a whole different issue Also, from the general tone of your post its obvious you havent read half of this thread but ill still bait, rox_kis' manager did so only because brat_ok already had issues in previous tournaments, this is also a totally different situation.
I have read this whole thread, been keeping a close eye on it since the NASL was announced. I know about Brat_ok's troubles with traveling too. It means he and his manager have learned from past mistakes. Why didn't NightEnd or his manager learn from Brat_ok's troubles?
NightEnd thinks he wouldn't have any trouble getting a Visa, but it is not a given. Yes he should have gotten his Visa in advance not only for NASL, but also if he makes the finals of the TSL. What if it turns out he makes the finals, but can't get his Visa in time or at all? Its a process he and his manager should have completed already.

The last two rounds of invite really has given me a renewed sense of hope for the NASL
|
Am I the only one who sees a conflict of interest to have iNcontroL the "face of the NASL" and obviously having an influence on the selections of players (seeing as how he lives with those who own it) and having him actually compete in the event? I mean I've always been an iNcontroL fan, but honestly I don't think he should be competing in the event AND being an employee or whatever as that gets rid of objectivity in player choices and decisions IMO.

Still don't think Cruncher should have gotten in lol. If we go and invite every person who has beaten IdrA then there's a long list. People lose games, it's not a big surprise. But we invite Cruncher just because there was some "BM" between them? Thats ridiculous. There are other way more qualified people that should have been invited instead of CRUNCHER. I don't even see the big deal with him anyways. He won game 1 convincingly, got smashed in game 2, and won game 3 because IdrA underestimated him.
I am also laughing hard that POKEBUNNY didn't get invited LOL. Especially after his post about not inviting any koreans (so that he could get in). Good mix, I like it, a good share of Koreans and Europeans. To the people bitching about this being the "North American Star League" the name means nothing, it just means the tournament is based in North America. Nothing more.

Looks cool. The list seems really strong and interesting.
My one gripe is that players were grouped with rivals. Considering region and race distribution in the groups is important. Outside of that and maybe teams, I'd prefer more randomness. You would have new relationships between players fire up and existing relationships would be more interesting if the players meet after the group stage. Trying to increase the drama makes it feel fake.
Just my thoughts to improve things next time. I'm interested to see how things go.

It is a good list, but this is the internet so people are going to complain of course. This is the first time this organization has run a tournament, and it shows. Their selection process seemed TOTALLY SUBJECTIVE, and they seem to have rationalized all their choices as they made them. It's ok because they attempted to pick players that people wanted to see the most, but you should expect a shit storm like this when you have such an arbitrary invite system. The fact that they're switching to a qualification system for next season shows that they have already realized their mistake. There are plenty of quality players in the pool so far, so the games should be decent.
The NASL has been pretty noobish compared to MLG, GSL, and TSL in how they have run everything thus far, but they're trying and seem to be learning from their mistakes.
I don't care about their excuses, but everything about their "Clash of the Titans" showmatch was terrible except for the games and players themselves. The commentary was super awkward and there were lots of glitches in the graphics. This would have been fine because it was their first production, but afterwards they made excuses, saying things like "This is NOT indicative of how we will run the NASL, don't worry." WHY WOULD YOU DO THE SHOWMATCH THEN? Wasn't that the point? To give people a taste of how cool it will be?
Also, Incontrol has revealed himself to have an inflated ego through his "apology" blog post, his backhanded blaming of Gretorp (in SOTG) for the terribly awkward commentary during the showmatch, and his tendency to dismiss and put down anybody who criticized him or NASL. Also, you gotta ignore obvious trolls dude. It makes YOU look worse when you sink to their level and bicker with them.
I hope the NASL will be awesome, and I know there will be good games, but from the way things have gone so far, there is no way I will pay twice the amount I pay to watch the GSL, which at this point seems vastly superior.

Why does EG have the most invites out of all the teams?
Edit: it would be nice to see how they chose players.

Possibly being the biggest, probably best NA team.

Cruncher was put in the league before that match took place, well at least before it was aired.

I would think that they put rivals in the same group so they can have some kind of "story" to tell in the group stages. Since this is the first NASL run, it has to sound like the best most epic shit ever :D
So if a new guy tunes in and hears "well, these players are playing against each other for the first time, they dont know each other that well" he might think that it is not interesting.
On the other hand you can have Idra vs Zenio and talk about their rivalvry, how idra called him a faggot and what not (i don't really remember how their so called rivalvry started) and then the new guy thinks that their is real emotion in this game, that its like a sport with rivalry and so on.
At least that would be my explanation for it, maybe im wrong :D

They have the explanation in the first post. Display the spoiler.
Also, having InControl from EG in the actual event is going to encourage more EG people to apply for it, compared to people who have no "prior contact" to the league.

I would love to see you go to Japan, Korea, or some other country where you don't know the language as well, and have your grammar and spelling 100% perfect. It was completely unnecessary to point out his spelling.

Wanted to see PsY in it, oh well Still, good lineup of players, there's just so many high-named players nowadays to fit them all in
