CHAT ROOM: FXOpen

This will be a tournament open to all players with access to the North American server. The qualifier will be a 128 player, single elimination bracket. Every round will be Bo3 except the Grand Final, which will be Bo5.

The finalists will be invited to the FXOpen Invitational Series #2 - please only apply if you are able to meet the required times for the tournament. There is no prize for winning the qualifier other than an invite to the main prized event.

Sign ups open ~3 hours before the start of the tournament to limit the amount of no-shows and will be on a first in first served basis.

The tournament admins will be FXOfrequency.299 and FXOdeL.468 - all results must be reported to the admins. Brackets will be available within 15 minutes of start time and some replays may be available.

Brackets:

FXOdeL#468 - http://challonge.com/fxo_is_qual1
FXOfrequency#299 - http://challonge.com/fxo_is_qual2

If you get a BYE it counts as passing Ro64 so you would start on the Ro32 map

I'm really disappointed on the short notice for these 2 qualifiers. Unfortunately for me, I committed to other tournaments which I don't want to turn my back from. I hope for upcoming qualifiers, things are planned ahead and more announced. Sorry for being sad but I was really looking forward to get a shot at qualifying for the big tour. Thanks for hosting these. In the end, you guys have no obligations to host these qualifiers.

They opened the thread 3hours before the qualifier so we could sign up for it...

I was informed by my manager/fxo people 1hour people the actual start of the qualifier.
In the end, I guess I could be reading their main thread over and over every day to make sure I don't miss an update but you know... :\

I like their work and I know I sound bitter but anyone who's going to put their head under the sand and say outloud " Their qualifier is well organized, is well announced and shouldn't be improved" is obviously wrong. :D Don't act like an ostrich, ride one instead

1) The dates for the qualifiers were announced with the main thread, this is enough information to know whether another tournament will clash or not, especially considering you could assume it would start within a couple hours either way of the main events.

2) Opening the thread 3 hours before is to reduce no-shows, and actually results in at least the same or more numbers of people show up (as compared to having the thread open for weeks before the event). This format was announced along with the dates earlier.

3) That's an emu not an ostrich.

IDC at all about this, but the logistics of this tournament was just factually terrible. Sorry.

It's actually a dinosaur/blind ostrich.

Why host your qualifier the same day of the Justin TV invitational.

Do you not like Justin TV?

How would you feel if they removed your partner program and you wouldn't make any money from streaming ?

At the end of the day, you guys acted like kangaroos picking fights with anyone (not caring about other tournaments) and not caring about us, players.

It was us players who had to deal with it/ take a loss for that.

Desrow, calm down. There will be other opportunities. There's no reason to dump on this thread because you're upset-- We didn't really plan to shut out other tournaments (and we didn't), but just made an open tournament on the best date available for us. It's a really busy weekend.

This doesn't have anything to do with us disliking players or justin.tv; don't make wild accusations.

No. A large number of no shows ruins a tournament and the atmosphere, makes ugly brackets, and above all makes the players and hence casters have to wait around some times for excessive amounts of time to wait for a game. Opening signup a short time before or using a check-in system results in less no-shows (note: I never said it completely eliminates them) and a smoother experience for the players and stream. It's a matter of 300 signups with 50% noshows compared to 150 signups with 10% noshows, even though a handful more people might sign up .

Additionally, I don't like backup lists as I seed tournament and I feel making replacements is fundamentally unfair unless every no-show spot is filled up (why should someone else not get a freewin just because their opponent noshowed first?) and because it disregards seedings (replacing bronze no-show with a top player - another matter of fairness).

The dates of the qualifiers were known in advance and you could reasonably assume it's not going to be at too different a time to the event or it would make no sense. I am not going to accept 'I couldn't schedule my events around this time' as an answer as no one is going to write a personal letter to each player tailoring it to their needs, they have to (or their managers have to) read the thread and take note of the date if you want to compete. Realise it was only the actual registration that was "short notice", which was basically a check-in system. Forgive me if I don't believe when you say that just because you wrote your ID in a 3 week old thread before accepting an invite to a tournament that is, let's be realistic, easier money, that you would definitely show up and not leave or pull out.

Challonge requires that the bracket results be reset if you make name changes if I recall correctly and so making replacements from a backup player list results in more delays.

The date of this tournament was already made in advance to get the invites and to co-incide with the staff's requirements as well (who all have school/work to consider) and a significant number of invites were confirmed before they were announced in the Justin.TV invitational. And on the topic of the justin.tv invitational no I don't have anything against it but when players are prioritising, this event has a comparable prize pool with the additional benefit of the 'ladder points' that will contribute to much larger tournaments so if players are serious about competing in these events rather than just looking for a quick easy pay day they should consider this when making the choice.

At the end of the day, the qualifiers are for people who we weren't particularly interested in inviting right now, and the justin.tv tournament included a lot of people who are participating in our own main event so it would not have a huge impact. There was no significant personal benefit to us hosting this tournament other than giving some other players with the drive to participate in FXOpen events who aren't that attractive as invites a shot. The streaming of it was done by the casters with much effort without 'extra views' or out competing everyone else in mind (if that were the case surely FXOpen could afford to just throw in a prizepool to this?). It was more of an 'icing on the cake' event that allowed people overlooked as invites a chance to show they want to be involved or that they have the skill to compete and with today's qualifiers that certainly seems the case.

Desrow, I appreciate your frustration. But its been 2 weeks since the qualifiers are announced. Not only is this NOT the only qualifer to happen for our events, but its only the FIRST.

To wet your pants over it, is uncalled for. deL and Frequency do their best to cater to an industry that is riddled with online events. If it wasnt this weekend it was another weekend when another event is on.

Having a hissy about it, isn't going to help you at all and to be honest, its unprofessional and unacceptable.

IF you have a REAL problem about our event, you can always contact me by PM.
