MC might win this gsl again

I think his play this season has shown that he *should* be able to dismantle July quite handily. MC has been beasting through every round; I really hope he doesn't choke.

I think Julyzerg will be 200% prepared and will at least put up a nice fight. He's July ffs. Or perhaps it shows the difference between people who are capable of unbiased assessment and those who let other considerations cloud their judgement. And when you say unbiased, you mean... uninformed? The only, ONLY reason why players like MC and especially MVP are "dominating" these early stages of SC2 as an esport is because they were one step ahead of most other SC2 players when it comes to their BW ability. They aren't particularly talented and there's really nothing special about them as RTS players in general - they're only exploiting the fact that there's nobody better playing the game that seriously for the time being and using their skills (that 95% of crossed over from bw) to beat everybody else. Now players like July and Nada (and maybe even Boxer at a stretch) are guys that are genuinely talented and mechanically superb players on global scale. It's only a matter of how much they practice and how much they get into the game before they're better than the people playing sc2 currently. Now Boxer and I think Nada are both married, they both live at their own homes and they don't really get the top level training environment they need and probably don't put in nearly the same hours as they did during their progaming peak. July on the other hand does get that training at ST house, he's taken enough time to figure out how to play the game his own way, plus he has the mindset of a proven, seasoned champion. In fact, I'm pretty sure out of the two of them, MC will be the one who goes into the finals feeling more nervous. I'm actually quite impressed by Nada's results given how little he apparently practices. July on the other hand practices more than almost anyone and has been playing SC2 for a long time. Your post is based on the assumption BW talent/skills translate effortlessly to SC2 and the fact someone wasn't a top BW player means he cannot be a top SC2 player as the top BW players will always be better. MVP has actually played SC2 a lot less than July and yet he is still clearly the better player, even balance considerations aside. It's clear being a top BW player helps considerably, but the lack of BW experience or results is not an insurmountable obstacle and the opposite is not a guarantee of success. BW had a mechanical barrier some players couldn't overcome either due to lack of "talent" or time, but the barrier is much lower in SC2.
In summary, your post was exactly the kind of post I've come to expect from people who accept these certain assumptions at face value, despite some evidence to the contrary. Considering I got SC1 at release date and have been following the scene since BW, I'm quite informed, thank you very much.

Just finished watching the VODs. July vs. Anypro was enjoyable to watch, San vs. MC made me cringe and once again realize how horrible PvP is for spectators (and probably players as well).
Says a lot when the most exciting PvP games are those with successful or failed cheese, and regular games once again come down to "expand first, lose" or "I have one more unit, snowball effect will kill you". Of course MC deserved to win since he showed very solid play and a calm, concentrated style, but that didn't make it more entertaining to watch.
The real hero of the day is Anypro for losing. I guess a PvP GSL final would have been the first final I'd have refused to watch.

Guess MC will be the first two-time winner. He will be making ze monies.

MC already beat July this season in the group stages very convincingly. That match on XNC was a textbook example of how protoss should be played vs zerg. I think MC will win 4-1.

Very nice results, and perfectly coinciding with my Liquidbet and my hopes.
It was a good GSL run for SanZenith, and I wish him the best. It is near impossible to beat MC in a PvP, and taking a game off of him can be considered a victory for San.
Also, I'm glad that July beat Anypro, thus saving us from what could be a disastrous PvP finals. I'm quite eager to see what kind of tricks July has in store for MC.
I'm also quite eager to see how Taststosis will spin the God of War vs Kratos Protoss finals. I eagerly await the photoshopped images.

lmao @ Tasteless's "crouching probe, hidden dragon" at the end of the first vod of the first match ;p

When I fullscreen the GSL vod how do I get the video's info bar to disappear? It stays and covers up the progress bar of every unit that gets produced...

Go July!! Prove the haters wrong!! July WHITING~~~~~!! Some hate is required to counterbalance the unjustified hype Unjustified, do you even know who the guy is? Absolutely, but his past performance in a different game shouldn't come into consideration. He has played over 2800 ladder games so it's not as if he is just now unlocking his potential. I very much like July, but it's hard to cheer for him due to his current playstyle. You know that's precisely this playstyle that brought him to the top of that other game. And that idea of being aggressive ended up more or less incorporated in standard play ? That many of the best ZvTer in bw were extremely aggressive ? That Bo5s are an extremely psychological affair ? (a lesson July learned from Oov btw) But yeah, maybe July is just a cheeser lol. It's not the aggression that's the issue; it's that he overdoes the aggression, his builds doesn't seem smooth and his decision making in general isn't good. It also seems to rely rather heavily on your opponent making mistakes. It would be great if such aggression was viable a zerg, but I'm not convinced. Definitely not as a standard playstyle. 6 pools and baneling busts also produce extremely unentertaining games.
so you prefer a 15min macro game where P abuses every weakness of Z and then eventually a-moves a deathball once and it's gg? I'm not a fan of 6pools whatsoever, but the style july showed throughout the tournament is exactly why I love his matches, I don't care about his history or results.
edit: obviously if he would've lost his style wouldn't be useful, so results matter i guess, but in a different context.

Solid play or gimmicky play again? 6pool game 1 --> win anypro opens 3 phoenix, and then delays a bit and makes a lot more, goes for a push with blink stalkers, july plays reactively with corruptors and roach ling crushes the push --> win game 3 --> both players play passively at start, july goes up to 4base, anypro on 2 and then 3 pretty fast, relatively standard game --> lose anypro FFE on XNC, july abuses the open nat for 2 ling runbys into anypro has no probes, game was over right then but anypro stays in for a while, july harasses with mutas and roach and then ends it with a bust. overall, not super super solid, but when has july ever been a super super solid player. He lives and dies with ultra-aggressive knifes-edge decision making.
thank you, sir
