That one post which I shall not quote isn't just a Troll, that is a CAVE Troll.

Anyway, respect to Ret for actually giving us firsthand insight in the games, as annoying as the general forum crowd with the expert criticism can get these days.

But meh, all the GSLs so far have left such a bad aftertaste. =( Hopefully Jinro or Idra can pull off something really brilliant this time.

You guys are defending Ret like he's a Freshman girl in highschool. I'm pretty sure the dude knows he's good and a couple of random trolls won't break his confidence cause if they did he wouldn't be able to compete on the Korean level anyway where it's all about being able to cope with loss.

Even fruit got knocked out last season this early and as Ret said plenty of more didn't qualify.

Trolls will never go away, just the way it is.

Not being able to Veto maps, and this SCV push thing, is making this GSL less appealing, Now this "Technique" with early marine scv, is showing that a lot of these terran players though Pro Gamers/amazing players are really bad. Now you can do this and still be good but if you noticed a lot of these Terran after failing with that rush have just been awful if the game goes longer.
You do have others who do these pushes and stay ahead or have a solid strat/plan.

You might think i'm hating on the scv marine push but really when foxer was doing this it was amazing to watch, but he still plays for the long game and is solid, I'm just hating on the guys that seem like they made it to the round of 64 only because they killed a bunch of greedy zergs(which deserved it obviously) and have no real depth in their gameplay past the early game.

just watched the vods and I have to say that were some very good games from ret. Everybody critizising him should realize that Ret has probably a lot less games under his belt than most of the other players at GSL. And thats exactly what was the problem imo (and from what i read in his comments) - he just hasnt the ridiculous amount of games needed to be familiar with ANY kind of attack. From what I saw, Ret has a friggin ton of potential, his game is faster and cleaner than almost every other Zerg I have seen. Once it gets to midgame, he is unstoppable. If he gets rid of insecurities in early game he will be an absolute monster. At the rate Ret has improved im fully convinced he will be tearing it up with another month of practice. And im not just saying this cus I have trained with him and Jinro in Beta

But great play Ret, keep at it, we are all behind you!

Ladder is the only place they are able to prepare competition. do imagine what will happen if GSL starts using custom maps. you can't even get fine practice partners because most of people are not playing GSL custom maps.

Aside from that, also think that Blizzard probably wants the GSL and other big tournaments to use their maps, so its possible they imposed that, seeing it gives major balance data to them and also promotes the ladder playing heavily.

Thanks for taking the time to reply in this thread, Ret. I'm wondering about game 3, you say you think it comes down no ling speed. It would obviously have helped against his first attack and you could have gotten away with more drones, but you still held it off and I thought you were doing reasonably ok. Do you really think you lost the game there? Because by the time the second attack came (the one that killed you), ling speed was done.
On a purely personal note, I'd like to show Yellow the beauty of infinitely repeating Starcraft 2 bunkers. -Boxer

Just watched the matches (between classes and work it's almost impossible to find the time) and Ret I was so sad to see you get knocked out. I was cheering and yelling during game one though, that was really impressive. I'm sure you'll do even better in the next GSL!

p.s. It's totally awesome that you replied in this thread, I love getting a view of how you saw the situations you got put in instead of just theorycrafting

Is it just me or is the peekleek troll banned but not in the automated ban list? Mysterious.

Also, I'm pretty sure his name comes from this thread: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=172828&currentpage=4

Man, is anyone else really, really disappointed by all of these Terran all-ins? SCV-assisted rushes, extremely early timing attacks, whatever you want to call them.

I'm not arguing balance and I'm not arguing its cheapness or cheesiness or anything like that, it's just very disappointing to have 10 minute games over and over and it's not really fun to watch once you've already seen it once or twice or fifteen times. Once in a while is okay, but we've had them almost every single TvZ match thus far (and that's been like the major matchup of this season and last season).

I agree, but I think it's because the TvZ success rate was so low in season 2 that since FoxeR went pretty much uncontested with that style, people are copying it like crazy. I'm pretty sure (or I hope) that once the 2011 tourneys come rolling around that the Zergs stop 14 hatching blindly or develop different strategies. The matches like Clide/Leenock give me some hope.

This is the legacy of Foxer, as we hear all the time from artosis, the korean ladder metagame is absolutely filled with this kind of terran play. They seem to fully acknowledge the fact that terran can almost never beat zerg in a long macro game.

Anybody know what exactly was GSL trying to achieve by disallowing map thumbdowns?

It's not as if it is a secret that some of the maps are horribly imbalances at higher levels where terrain truly becomes as much of a factor as a player's skill.

They wanted more map variety and since certain players from each race tended to downvote the same maps depending on their matchup. So they would see the same maps for TVP, TVZ, and ZVP. GOM thought this was a bad thing apparently and decided to scrap the vetoing process entirely and now we get to see Steppes, Delta, Scrap, and LT all the time, even though they are horribly imbalanced maps.

My personal opinion is that Ret's games were pretty shaky overall, even in game 1 especially during the mech push done by the terran. His micro seems quite a bit off as well.

Overall, nice performance by him to reach Ro32, and i am confident that he will improve and reach even further the next GSL.

What was really nice in day 2 was the hongun - jsl match. I thought that JSL would pull through but HongUn showed some quite solid play, plus the carriers in match 2 . Hopefully he will get far and show us some more interesting matches.

They'll only get harder from here. Ret played way too passively, its probably unlikely he'll make it this far next time round.

Anywho, looking forward to seeing ANY protoss pass ro8... if any do at all..
