Anyway, respect to Ret for actually giving us firsthand insight in the games, as annoying as the general forum crowd with the expert criticism can get these days. But meh, all the GSLs so far have left such a bad aftertaste. =( Hopefully Jinro or Idra can pull off something really brilliant this time.

Even fruit got knocked out last season this early and as Ret said plenty of more didn't qualify. Trolls will never go away, just the way it is.

You do have others who do these pushes and stay ahead or have a solid strat/plan. You might think i'm hating on the scv marine push but really when foxer was doing this it was amazing to watch, but he still plays for the long game and is solid, I'm just hating on the guys that seem like they made it to the round of 64 only because they killed a bunch of greedy zergs(which deserved it obviously) and have no real depth in their gameplay past the early game.

Ladder is the only place they are able to prepare competition. do imagine what will happen if GSL starts using custom maps. you can't even get fine practice partners because most of people are not playing GSL custom maps. Aside from that, also think that Blizzard probably wants the GSL and other big tournaments to use their maps, so its possible they imposed that, seeing it gives major balance data to them and also promotes the ladder playing heavily.

p.s. It's totally awesome that you replied in this thread, I love getting a view of how you saw the situations you got put in instead of just theorycrafting

I'm not arguing balance and I'm not arguing its cheapness or cheesiness or anything like that, it's just very disappointing to have 10 minute games over and over and it's not really fun to watch once you've already seen it once or twice or fifteen times. Once in a while is okay, but we've had them almost every single TvZ match thus far (and that's been like the major matchup of this season and last season).

I agree, but I think it's because the TvZ success rate was so low in season 2 that since FoxeR went pretty much uncontested with that style, people are copying it like crazy. I'm pretty sure (or I hope) that once the 2011 tourneys come rolling around that the Zergs stop 14 hatching blindly or develop different strategies. The matches like Clide/Leenock give me some hope.

This is the legacy of Foxer, as we hear all the time from artosis, the korean ladder metagame is absolutely filled with this kind of terran play. They seem to fully acknowledge the fact that terran can almost never beat zerg in a long macro game.

It's not as if it is a secret that some of the maps are horribly imbalances at higher levels where terrain truly becomes as much of a factor as a player's skill.

It's not as if it is a secret that some of the maps are horribly imbalances at higher levels where terrain truly becomes as much of a factor as a player's skill. They wanted more map variety and since certain players from each race tended to downvote the same maps depending on their matchup. So they would see the same maps for TVP, TVZ, and ZVP. GOM thought this was a bad thing apparently and decided to scrap the vetoing process entirely and now we get to see Steppes, Delta, Scrap, and LT all the time, even though they are horribly imbalanced maps.

Overall, nice performance by him to reach Ro32, and i am confident that he will improve and reach even further the next GSL. What was really nice in day 2 was the hongun - jsl match. I thought that JSL would pull through but HongUn showed some quite solid play, plus the carriers in match 2 ![]()
