They are being paid to cast for a large-scale tournament. Bias is fine to me, as it is not reasonable to assume you'll find a caster with no strong bonds with certain players, but to insult players is going too far. It is easy to be funny and respectful, and I think that's where the professional line is.

ps. their job definitely isn't to "spread e-sports around", though that may be an auxiliary benefit

Sigh, I should have known better than to try to debate on the internet. Shit-talking instead of any actual discussion occurs invariably. And you can't really reach a conclusion on what most people watching the stream thought by counting the "LOL" posts in the Team Liquid thread. But sure, I'm quite willing to admit that there are people out there who find cheap shots hysterical. When I heard it, I sort of cringed. "Casual" is not equivalent to "with insults and bias". I actually spent a lot of today listening to Carefoot's interpretation of the Korean stream instead because there are aspects of the official English language stream that I just find disappointing. I'm sure some people would like to imagine that I hate jokes or something but that is not the case. So is the premium ticket a service they're selling or is GOM a charity? In what sense does it not matter when they've gone to the trouble of putting an international face on their event? Saying that nothing needs to be legitimized on a forum loaded with people who want this to be considered "e-sports" and not just "video game playing" doesn't make sense, in my opinion. I definitely agree with you when you say that you can't measure the amount of appreciation from reading the TL thread. And at the same time, I can see how some people might not enjoy the more relaxed atmosphere of Tastetosis. Whether casual means that they can say things from their perspective is a much larger argument, and I think we can agree to disagree and what not. On the main point, I think you misconstrued my argument. I made 2 main points. The first is that GOMTV as an entity driving e-sports operates primarily for Korea, which is pretty obvious. And while we'll never get the actual numbers, I'm sure that they get much more money from the Korean scene than the foreigner scene, just because of advertising and what not. As a result, there is a need for legitimacy in the Korean scene because they are primarily catering towards the Korean scene, especially advertisers and sponsors. The foreign casters for GOMTV need not try to legitimatize e-sports past making it popular because their main market is Korea, and Korea has their own commentators who are very careful about what they say, because they are the face of e-sports to the primary audience. My second point is that Tastetosis is being professional and helping Western e-sports by growing viewership. If more people like what they say than what they don't say and viewership increases, it follows naturally that they are doing e-sports a favor. Increased viewership of GSL is good for GOMTV as well, since they are primarily selling passes to watch the stream, not looking for sponsors as they do in the Korean scene. This also has a side-effect of helping the foreign scene because increased viewership of GSL helps to drive up interest and viewership in the tournaments, such as MLG, that are focused on the foreign scene. And in these tournaments, the casters must be cautious about what they say as well, because in that case, they are representing the tournament to potential sponsors and advertisers. This is where legitimization of e-sports is important. Anyway, this is my last post on this subject. I think we're fundamentally opposed and there's not much left to say, and besides, thread derailing, even if there's nothing to LR atm. I'd just like to say as well that I agree that Tastetosis can be too casual about their job and Artosis almost definitely shouldn't have made his comment about Choa, but that just means I'm on the edge of their target demographic, provided that they actually entertain more than they drive away. P.S. I agree with your stance on 'retard' and 'gay'. Much overused, and flat-out offensive, even if none is actually meant.

Please don't use it arbitrarily without at least explaining what your intended meaning is and once you've stated that, explain why this should be the goal. Also, it appears to me many of you throwing the word around aren't actually avid sports watchers and definitely do not know what kind of casters the audience actually likes. ps. their job definitely isn't to "spread e-sports around", though that may be an auxiliary benefit I am more interested in the general publics opinion.

I would say that, overall, the commentators recognize that the foreign players are very skilled. Continuing on with Jinro, the commentators are comparing Jinro's medivac play to 임요환's dropship play in SC1. They really love Jinro ㅋㅋ. [edit] They also mentioned Jinro's recent MLG win as well. I think they are fairly knowledgable about the foreign SC2 scene as well. -> well at least well enough ot mention his win on air ![]()

Idra build roaches to deal with the cannons and after that pushed towards his opponent. The FE had a dent in it's defense, Idra abused it, entered the base and destroyed the Nexus. After that it was GG. Game 2 was on Steppes. Idra spread creep started to slowly push with Spine Crawlers and Hydras. His opponent started to pump lots and stalkers (don't ask) out of six gates without building any T3 units (despite having all the time to do so). Idra just slowly pushed and win. Overall, Idra just outclassed whoever he was fighting.

Then Idra suddenly won out-right because the toss placed his gateway next to the ledge, where the roaches could hit it, and the toss had literally no attacking units, at all, and had 3 cannons that were positioned perfectly so that they couldn't actually hit the roaches. After the gateway went down, P had no gateways. And Idra had just 3 roaches in his nat, and forced the GG.

The Idra from GSL S1 wouldn't have ever attacked, he would have been passive until he had 200 food army. I like the new Gracken, he is aggressive and relatively polite, wonder what happened to him? Is this some transformation into Magical Boy Greggory?

Those same roaches then kind of sauntered their way over to the protoss natural, where there was an overlord. And the mighty Gracken saw that Choa did not sim city well. And those 6 roaches won Idra the game.
