The page hasn't been updated yet so I figured I would post them here.
Marineking(FoxeR) vs Fruitdealer Genius vs Tester Maka vs Thewind Boxer vs Kyrix
Should be some awesome matches.
Now we need to find a stream.
here are the brackets http://ch.gomtv.com/view.gom?ch=414&intpid=23523&intbid=394280&type=2
http://ch.gomtv.com/view.gom?ch=414&intpid=23523&intbid=394031&type=2
This might work for a stream.

The other two games should be Maka vs Thewind and Boxer vs Kyrix

I'm going for Genius and MarineKing.

Thanks I completely forgot about those, hah. I was used to them splitting it up.

Would be awesome if Kevin did it again, but I think he said he wasn't doing it anymore for G-star.

does TL have a post about proxy viewing korean stream?
|
KevinAce said he won't be streaming any more of the games so unfortunately we won't be able to enjoy him constantly noodling with the codec settings and prattling on about nothing anymore.
I'm most interested in the first match, for what are probably obvious reasons. But I'll be watching them all for sure if that ends up being possible.
|
If Genius was able to beat IncA and WhiteRa's PvP he should handle Tester with ease.
|
I don't know about that... Tester is godly.
|
These matches should be insane.
|
how sad is tester and genius played each other already
|
I want to see Tester beat Genius. I'll get to see Genius play in the GSL but not Tester so I want to see Tester take it home. Sad they have to play against each other though

I really hope we can find somebody who can restream. If not, we're doomed!

Can someone please restream and post the links to the vods later? I'm going to be working at the time so woudl hate to miss these!
|
Someone please stream this, you would be a hero.
|
Are both the FD/FoxeR and Tester/Genius games tonight?
Also, I hate the fact that we are going to lose one of the two best protoss in the world in a PvP between each other.

When will first games begin?

Guys, the stream is available from ppstream.com, but I don't know how to read chinese. Can anyone translate for us and post up how we can watch the coverage? I believe downloading the player is required.

Ok, I'm not entirely sure because it just automatically worked for me, but try this:
.
http://ppstream.uptodown.com/en/
download this, install it. If that one doesn't work, download from here http://dl.pps.tv/ (It's Chinese so let's just hope the other one works)
Open 2.plu.cn

Click PPStream, then a video player will load in the middle of the page. They have other sc2 programs before the actually game, so use it for testing.
Someone try it, i think it would work that way, but I'm not sure.
The stream quality is fine, i had a lil lag but it didn't affect the game. There will be a Chinese caster, you probably wont understand him but he's the Chinese equivalent of Day9, so don't be mean to him :D
If it doesn't work, come back to this page and post what went wrong, and I'll see if I can figure it out.
|
Would be awesome to get a stream working...I'm having moneyz on the line here, around $10 on Kyrix against SlayerSBoxer...odds are 2.1 v 1.65
The game seems to start 9 am here in Sweden though so I'd better get to bed if I'm gonna be able to get up in time...see you all at breakfast!

Tyler criticized Tester's play against NaDa (on the forums), saying it was too fragile and that he could've done the same thing with less risk. Day9 has been ripping the protoss FE straight into colossi strategy, which is what Genius likes to do (and popularized.)

I'd stream if I could but I have friends coming over to visit and I have to go pick them up from the airport today & tomorrow...so I just won't be around to take care of this. There are PLENTY of other people on this forum living in RoK. All it takes is them launching it and using ProCaster (and someone's 'verified' account if they personally don't have one). Good luck on seeing the matches. Hopefully someone steps up for you guys.

Eh I don't think Tyler or Day were saying that the players themselves were bad or anything, obviously they're both great players. I think what they're trying to get at is their builds are unnecessarily greedy and risky, and therefore it isn't surprising that they can be "upset" in a Bo3 qualifier.

Double starport, feels good for FD. It was the early rine pressure he had problems with in GSL2, not banshee play.

Lol boxer fail with banshee + repair, didn't focus fire well enough
|
Fruitdealer easily defends banshees being repaired by scvs with his queens
|
factory doesnt produce marines im confused
|
mass banshee = fail, knew fd was going to rush for spire.
|
enable the chat, it doesn't cause lag.
|
|
FD shuts down the banshee play completely only losing a queen. 2 base to 1 base. Big advantage for FD. Spire up, mutas causing havok.
|
|
Bye Foxer. Your cheese failed.
|
They're using the Razer SC2 set. Do you think they were forced to? :D
|
Mutalisks now wreaking havoc in Boxer's base, this looks to be all but over
|
No, FoxeR's strategy was really clever, and probably would've caught many a player off guard.
This wasn't FoxeR being that bad, it was FruitDealer being that good.
GG. Fruit Dealer so gooooooooooodd
|
Germany18839 Posts
.. not a really good build :S! I want to see him use the strategy Artosis talked about.
|
completely owned that match by fruit
|
Fruitdealer's revenge!
tbh, the 2port banshee repair was a decent build idea.
|
|
Interesting strat by Foxer, but doesnt work against FD!
Stick to making marines, foxer
|
|
I am rooting for Foxer, but that was pathetic. You know he is so far away, why don't you just expand man. Fucking cheesy gimmicky build.
I hate these Banshees. Really, banshees are easy win bullshit. In this case, easy lose, because Foxer went for it despite the fact.
|
Great play by FD totally deflected
|
Nope foxer does his standard double port banshee rush
|
time for Foxer to do a marine push
|
Not horrible, just "all in"
And it failed, so he lost. PRetty standard game of SC2 if you ask me.
|
Bad bo? Or good counter bo? I dont understand TvZ so dont flame me ^^
|
Does anyone know the score between them now? I just tuned in to watch TinyBoxer loose a game..
|
Cross positions metal 12 6
|
Haven't really seen FoXeR win on Lost Temple.
|
FD at 6oclock and Foxer at 12oclock
|
Gm2 Metalopolis cross positions again Boxer in the 12 o'clock this time and Fruitdealer in the 6 o'clock
|
What bugs me is that he tries cheese in such a big map so far apart. In the first game of the set. I could understand if he was 1 up.
Foxer, get your act together!
|
So much hate on Foxer, it was a really smart build. Normally, against thor drop, FD goes roach drops, not mutas. He wanted FD to think he was going thors then destroy FD with banshees, which is why he got a tech lab on his factory without building anyhting from it. It was a smart build but FD played differently than he normally did and Foxer got Crushed.
|
anyone have a different stream with korean version... the stream I am on started dubbing in chinese
|
Germany18839 Posts
Is that typical Foxer Marine-Rush or that unstoppable (as in really hard to stop) Artosis style rush... we'll see.
|
On November 20 2010 11:48 SoL[9] wrote: Bad bo? Or good counter bo? I dont understand TvZ so dont flame me ^^
BO was interesting.
Put tech lab on factory to feign Thor drop. Went double starport banshees (no cloak), and medvac to drop SCV's for repair. FD dropped Spire, made 4 queens, and used perfection transfusion to only lose 1 queen.
Then counter pushed, and used Overseer to stop production of starport for Vikings.
Great hold by FD
|
Fruitdealer goes hatch first, Boxer going for 2 rax orbital
|
and 2 rax UNfrigginBEATABLE build coming up
|
Foxer going 2 rax Expo into 4 rax.
|

Nope, that involves a proxy and some scvs.
|
2 rax tech labs and 2 rax reactored, FD takes 3rd with banes coming in/
|
Nope, just as Artosis said, the Terran can start to force you to commit to ground, and drop a fast expo.
FD scouts and drops a fast 3rd.
|

FoxeR has evolved, he has learned to make MARAUDERS, OH GOD.
|
Fruitdealer really needed that lair up earlier to get speed on those banelings.
|
Slow banelings are absolutely useless against Foxer
|
He accidentally made Marauders, but that worked to his advantage.
|
wonder if they've been told to extend games, there's been some really bad GG timings in this tournament
|
WOOOOOW!
FoxeR attacks with marines and marauders. Engages on creep, but no bling speed, perfectly micro's the marines behind the marauders. FD tries to reposition but FoxeR re adjusts and loses no marines. Runs in and snipes the spawning pool!
FD extends, finally GGs.
FoxeR > Slow Banelings
|
No sunkens or baneling speed or roaches
|
Nice second set by Foxer.
|
Has fruitdealer heard of typing gg?

Fruit's timing was completely off that game. He had Banelings outside Foxer's base at the perfect time right before all the Tech Lab upgrades finished, but then decided to pull back. And his Baneling control in the deciding battle was uncharacteristically poor...

I agree though, it's hard to watch with that going non-stop in the backround. I do love listening for the occasional ALLINDEHKUH and a BANERING and such though

Foxer already had several marauders out and could have seen that attack off pretty handily in my opinion.

Yes but he correctly backed off as he would be attacking an army bigger than he could handle.
FD tried to regroup and get more stuff but couldnt in time.

There's nothing he could've done with slow banelings. Especially vs Foxer

Guys, may be it's just that FD was greedy. Going for 3rd without proper army to defend against marines, controlled by none other than MarineKing!
Insolence!

FoxeR tries to pressure with early SCV marine. FD pulls 4 drones, and micro's to wait for 8 lings.

HOLY EFFING SHIT BATMAN.
FD baits FoxeR up his ramp and runs his banelings into the marauders. Then brings a few hidden banelings from the back and kills the entire marine force.

GG.
FoxeR goes for marauders and medvacs. The StarCraft 2 scene explodes- and it seems here that FoxeR is actually unbeatable now.
FD thoroughly outplayed- not just outmicro'ed.
Baneling speed would've helped (and will be criticized often) doubtful there was ever time to do it.
|
|
I missed the beginning. How did Foxer get into such a lead? Where are the speed banes?
|
Yea, somehow Fruitdealer needed to mix baneling speed in there faster. He delayed lair for a super long time in both games for more economy and faster expos.
|
Id like to see Foxer on a macro game to see how good his macro is. His micro is insane.
|
Fruit Dealer needs to fix his strats against Foxer. If he techs Lair earlier for banneling speed, he would rape the army so hard.
|
|
People are still gonna say Foxer/MarineKing/whatever is bad. He can win this GSL and the next and he'll still have more haters than any other player.

You don't make it to Infestors vs Foxer.
|
Game 3 was pretty much a repeat of Game 2 on different maps. Heavy marine marauder pressure from Foxer completely countering Fruitdealers speedlings and slowbanes. Fruitdealer seemed to get his lair way too late in both games, perhaps got a bit too greedy grabbing an early third, and simply just got out-microed by the MarineKing.
|
Folks, it's not fluke. May be some thought it was fluke, including me, when Foxer beat FD first time. No, it's not fluke. Kyrix had more chance than FD.
FD is greedy. He probably thinks every terran will let him expand all over the place like Top did. No buddy, if you are greedy like that, then you die.

Getting infestors would be really hard but he just needs to get baneling speed... can't win against foxer without it.

Hardly unbeatable. All FD had to do was opt for a lair before his third and he would have what he needed.

He puts pressure early, trades small armies which is better in early game for Terran, since usually Zerg wants to saturate the expansion - but he can't. While Terran can and build an army. If you trade armies in late game its better for Zerg since he can replace his army faster when his bases are saturated, not even speaking about you losing a fight - you won't catch up again.
but yeah.. basically its the pressure and the army trading in the beginning, that forces Zerg to make nonstop units instead of what he wants - drones. /delaying his tech etc while you slowly 'creep' ahead in your advantage.
|

The biggest problem is that FoxeR tries to apply constant pressure, and as soon as he sees his opening he attacks and never stops.
Each time when he pulled back to expand, FD dropped a third to stay ahead. FoxeR timed his pushes right as his second was starting to satuate- seemed to be exactly when FD droned up. That, with FoxeR's micro, AND MARAUDERS (Seriously, I thought he hated them?), seemed unbeatable.
It's not terran or zerg or protoss imba. It's FoxeR imba.

That series for FoxeR seemed like:
Game 1: I'm going to try a new build so people think I'm not a one-trick pony. Fruit Dealer scouts my build, and perfectly holds.
Game 2: Shit. Okay, going to my old strategy, except this time I'm going to use marauders to catch him off guard. My Micro wins.
Game 3: Same thing. Oh wait, he still didn't rush baneling speed? I win.
|
You can tell Foxer has learned a lot from the GSL final against Nestea. He's using the same 2 rax build but he's not going all-in with it. He's just using it to pressure and force lots of Lings, then he backs off and expands to stay even on economy.
Attacking through the back entrance was also smart play in game 3, he was able to use the ramp really effectively to prevent Fruit from ever being able to get a surround. But I agree with whoever said that Fruit needed a much faster Lair, I think he got a bit too greedy in both games and it cost him in the end.

That was the latest lair possible, idk why FD would think that would be a good idea. Maybe he felt behind and just want to get a 3rd up as quick as possible.
However part of me also thinks, that FD probably wouldn't want to show his full hand vs Foxer. Just in case they meet in GSL3.

Foxer is the form player of the world and the best Terran for me. I also think losing to NesTea was probably the best thing that could have happened to him for his play, it taught him that he can be hyper-aggressive without being high risk cheese (delayed marine scv all-in).

I wondered: How did FD knew banshes were coming in the first game? i thought the tech lab on the factory placed on the choke (was it just a mind game?) would have been a sign for a thor-drop for FD. Not sure about the earliest moment, but he saw the first banshee leave Foxer's base, so he had a bit of time to prepare at that point. I think he had knew about it before, because there were 4 queens already in his base when foxer arrived and also he made no defense (spine crawler) at his expansion (maybe he even dont when he prepares for thor drop, who knows).

Genius got colossi tech before he got additional gateways. Getting 4 gates before even getting a robo is a pretty long winded way of doing things.

Holy shit, this game is amazing. Tester techs DTs but Genius attacks and wins the Blink Stalker battle because Tester invested resources in DTs. Genius kills Tester's base, but meanwhile there are DTs in his mineral line killing everything. Genius makes a proxy Forge and two Cannons to protect it in a faraway position, but Tester finds it and kills one before it finishes.
Current situation: both players have no Probes, it's 7 Stalkers vs 2 DTs, but the Stalkers are standing guard by the Forge/Cannon so Tester can't kill it.
I think they just declared it a draw?

a pylon has more hp than a cannon, he wouldn't have finished it off before losing his dt, which escaped one shot away from dying.

Seemed like Genius could have won that by hit and moving on the buildings without taking hits from the DT. Would have taken a while but it's not too hard to avoid taking damage from a single DT when you have blink stalkers.

He could have at least sent 2 Stalkers out to try taking some buildings down. It's not like he needed all 8 of them to defend his cannon.

Well, could it have been possible to wait until Genius moves some of his stalkers up, and bumrush the cannon with his 2 DTs? Cause if the cannon dies, as long as one DT is alive, he wins.

He probably knew he didn't have enough time to kill that pylon. The only option was to try and kill the first cannon and hope he had enough time to kill the other one before it warped in.
|
It's scary though, Genius doesnt know how many DTs are out. If Tester has 3 or more, Genius is risking a loss. But yeah he might have been able to poke a little more.
|
I will clarify since nobody gets this.
NexGenius has no idea of how many DTs were on the map.
Tester could put DTs on Hold Position at the bottom of his ramp, and Genius would not be able to blink into the main because he had NO SIGHT.
More importantly: Tester's DT had 30 kills. Zeratul?
|
maybe NEX didnt know how many DT's tester had. perhaps he though there were 3 maybe 4? and if he didnt keep alot of stalkers /w the cannon they could have just ramobo'd and killed it

Yeah i suppose the issue of not knowing how many DTs were in play is probably the defining factor. I think if the roles were reversed you would have seen Tester have a crack at it, as he is a more risk-based player.

Fuck yes Tester. Beautiful play.
That draw game really emphasized the difference between the two players. Genius is safe and boring. Tester plays this game in a way that's just brilliant to watch.

Tester is so happy, was rooting for both but I'm glad that he won over Genius since he won't get the chance to play in this GSL3.

I hope tester wins the tourny to make up for the GSL prelim losses; would be nice to see.

Proving to all the doubters that he is still one of the top 3 protoss in the world.

Sort of. If you have two dts blocking the bottom of the ramp, I don't believe you can blink past them. I'm not entirely sure though.
However, if you have more than 2 (which is key because Genius didn't know how many there are), I don't think it's possible to blink past them to get vision.

Genius, go train you standard BS shit against average players.
His micro is as good as anyones really, nipping at the heels of Foxer.
He can be so frustrating to watch though, Tester and Genius are my two favourite players, however i feel Genius uses the ability he has better. Tester is a big underachiever, and i think the hugely risky DT tied game outcome epitomises that.
Tester plays like a guy who isn't actually as sound a player as his opponent, so he takes huge risks, but he IS as fundamentally sound as anyone, so it hurts his consistency and level of success.

IF there were 3-4 dts and considering each do 60 damage (i think) it is kind possible for a stalker be sniped before blinking ...

Pretty intense matches. They are so similar in skill they had to go to a game 4 in a bo3. These guys may be the ones to carry protoss in the future GSL's.

Yes, but a couple of those games were lost on bad impulsive decisions, against a smart patient player. Pretty much the major anti-Tester complaint you see all over this thread.
The advantage for Tester, is that FoxeR is an equal risk taker, so this is shaping up to be an incredible series!

Watch a couple of Testers Terran play games and you will see how solid his micro is, even though his Terran play overall might have a number of flaws.

Wait a sec, about game 3...
Couldn't Genius win by leaving a couple stalkers by the cannon, and then send the rest to kill Tester's buildings? Even if he wouldn't manage to kill the buildings, it would still be a tie because 2 DTs can't kill a cannon and 2 stalkers.

Yeah. IMO if he's good he's clearly the best protoss in the world and maybe the best player, pity he's inconsistent. I think he has the best chance to take this tourney though, I don't see him losing to anyone else on the other side of the bracket if he beats Foxer.

Genius could've won by micro in game 3, but he didn't even try to. That's why it went to draw. He was just sitting on his cannon at 0apm.
Also, if anyone wants to question Tester's micro, go watch the GSL ro16 Game 3 of Tester where he has insane zealot micro to fight off a perfectly conditioned proxy zealot rush.

I am a fan boy. Good Protoss are so scarce that I am a huge Tester fanboy.
In fact, in BW, I am a Bisu fanboy. I want somebody to be mentioned in the same way as they mention Jaedong and Flash, or even historically, Nada, Boxer, oov, Savior, July. Freaking annoying that there is no one. I think Bisu has the potential, so I am a Bisu fan boy, although would root for any other protoss as well if they play other races.
Similarly, if Genius played any other Z or T player, or even a P player, I would root for him, because I consider him the second best P. Come on PROTOSS!

THANK YOU Tester. What a baller. Just shows that not qualifying for the GSL twice doesn't change the fact that he deserves to be in the competition at least. In my eyes you are the best Protoss player at the moment and if you practice hard enough the best player in the world. Please bring Protoss out of it's current dark age and show us the way. Damn man I sure as hell hope you beat Foxer next round and go on to win this thing. Good luck man, the entire race is behind you.
|
Not a huge prize? GSL has a bigger prize, but 15k is nothing to scoff at.
|
Ppl complain about Foxer's cheesy play. Yes, but almost everyone is defeated by his 'cheesy' play. When you know that Foxer is going to early rush and you still cannot hold off, it simply means that Foxer outplays you. Remember when Flash began to win a ton of games in 2008, people also hated his cheesy playing style, considered him as a boring player. "It wasn't until later when his genius in relation to economic timings, defensive play, came out. .. Flash went on to have one of the most dominant winning sprees in progaming history, ..."(wiki teamliquid) .
|
I am pretty damn sure that the players are giving everything they got, with slightly less pressure and less intense practice schedule.
For individuals like Tester and Inca who got knocked out of GSL, this is pretty much the only thing on their schedule for the next month.

It's not like he could just chip away at the buildings slowly, because the DTs will come to chase him, meaning he has to run away, and then the shields regenerate some more etc. It would be impossible to kill the buildings without bringing at least 3-4 Stalkers imo, and it would be too risky to leave only 2-3 behind to defend considering that he didn't know how many DTs were out there.

I really like watching Tester play. Sure, what he does is not solid at all and sometimes just plain foolish, but its still entertaining as hell to watch and he just seems to not get flustered by anything.

Folks, if anybody can stream with Korean commentary and in-game sound, it will be great, but so far, people who posted links have very laggy stream, it's unwatchable.
trunxs stream is still the smoothest.

Crapstation first map, bad for T.
IMO when it's this far in the tournament more balanced maps like XNC/Metal should be played more often.

I feel like GOM put that Chinese guy in just to troll everyone. Like, even if I could understand what he was saying, the Korean announcers just sound way more knowledgeable and exciting.

Fruitdealer had to play Foxer on Lost Temple, and still won. Good players can adapt their styles to different maps, even if one is more balanced towards one race than another. Makes for more interesting games to watch that way, even if it may not be totally fair for the guys competing.

It works for me too, but it is very laggy, maybe someone who doesn't get the stream laggy can restream? It would very nice not to have to listen that chinese guy -.-

Interesting Maka doing Foxer tactics while not microing his marines. I can lose with terran like this :D
Also we seen today Foxer start to use Marauders as well to tank blings (and he has as great control with them as with his marines), but other terrans are still making only marines :D

Cannot believe the lack of scouting from TheWind. He was expecting an attack for long periods and ended up being always 2 bases vs 2 making a lot of zerglings and banelings. Never got air defense, couldn't do anything to dropships.
From Maka's stand point, he had good moments to attack, but probably he isn't as confident in his micro as Foxer, so he just waited and tried to keep equal base vs TheWind. Still, a better zerg will beat that.

I thought maka played extremely well in G2, constantly in a forward position to force little amount of drone production, not suiciding his armies and always denying the third. I think not sending his whole army in on the creep to either win it right there or be in a bad position is what made it really high level play.
|
Can you call that a Makarax? Or is it just part of the new Terran early rax builds?

well maka just kept faking attacks, which forces zerg to make units instead of drones. basic play right there, and he kept feigning attacks in order to get ahead while denying expansions. his play was actually extremely good there.

I think Kyrix is probably a favourite, but Boxer may have improved his TvZ since the GSL. Kyrix plays completely differently from Nestea, which could work for or against him. Either way, the winner of this game will probably beat TheWind and make it to the finals.

In G2 he couldnt make up his mind to defend the front of the back so he got his whole base killed by a small amount of units.
And then after losing the game he cant decide to attack or not when he lost his whole fucking base.
In LT against rainbow, he tried to attack the thor healed by SCVs, sure do it, and then he decides to retreat......dude wtf.....
Sure he won, but he's strategic decision making is kind of terrible, kept losing units due to wrong decision.
I'm not talking about the entire game strategy, it just seems like he can't make good split second decisions......a thing that most good players can do, like FD and Foxer.

lol why would he make hellions at all?
Pretty sure all s-class players would never lose to something like that.

Kyrix showed us why he's kyrix.
Not only banelings, he's also an expert in good old "losing your whole fucking base" transition.
|
I was disappointed in Boxer's play. He had 9 blue flame hellions that he danced around the map with instead of crushing Kyrix's economy.

On November 20 2010 17:34 klauz619 wrote: lol why would he make hellions at all?
Pretty sure all s-class players would never lose to something like that. Because he almost won with it? It completetly countered the baneling/speedling bust that he knew was coming(infamous kyrix style), and if he built bunkers on top of his ramp instead of the bottom he could have won that easily.
|
lol, no lag stream? There is a whole ton of lag.... It's watchable but really it's so awful...
|
dont get any inspiration watchin this =( dunno if they just show the wrong korean terrans and others play any better but that is depressingly bad

Anyways go Kyrix, dethrone the Emperor!
|
Boxer was painfully late, but his criticism is in hindsight. He had no idea if the ramp is protected and/or if Kyrix had enough roaches already. He wanted a mediavac support.
Though again, he attacked even after seeing roaches, so that does not make much sense.
Anyway, I expected Kyrix to win. Boxer is not very good vZ, and Kyrix is very hard to stop for any Terran, I'd imagine, with his characteristic aggressive style.

Damn huge mistake of kyrix with only 2 queens, really atrocious to have only 2 queens, i hope he still defends this :/

poor macro by boxer. had like 1000 minerals 500+gas during banshee harass.

Boxer dropping marauders and marines EVERYWHERE at the same time (main, nat, third)

|
|
Wow, BoxeRs TvZ in sc2 is disappointing to me but he is still the ultimate harass master-..
|
Too many roaches and mutalisks. Boxer is out.
I must say that Kyrix got really good macro.
|
Looked like Boxer was wiping off some blood off his nose, when he left the booth. I think Kyrix hit him hard :p
|
Boxer... why do you lead with tanks when pushing into Z territory... instead of with marauders? This isn't TvT with a huge no-mans land when its tank vs tank wars.
I've seen him make that mistake so many times, which loses him the tanks instantly and then the battle.
|
why the hell did he try to attack? He had killed SO many drones, and had a safe planetary fortress expo up. IT didnt make sence at all.
He lost the game, got into a good position again by some miracle. Then just marches inn with tanks first for no reason=[ Boxer has some amazing strategys , but that game it just wasnt executed very well.

i thought boxer had it with the banshees

So Foxer vs Tester and TheWind vs Kyrix tomorrow?

The 2port banshees had the potential for more damage seeing as he researched cloak but apparently never used the ability. Both games boxer actually came really close to beating kyrix but a couple of bad/slow decisions cost him. at least his tvz looks to be improving slightly.

He never stood a chance at all.
|
I think at that point he already lost the game.
The fact is, Kyrix is a great player. He showed much better game than TheWind, who was indecisive with his attacks, timings and just generally passive. Kyrix plays with no fear in his eyes. He was getting killed by banshees, but that didn't stop him from expanding right away once he got mutas. To the gold.
A player like Idra would have ragequitted or gg-ed instantaneously if he saw that many banshees coming to him and killing his queens.
I would rank Kyrix very high up, along with NesTea and Fruitdealer, and higher than TheWind. I don't know where Zenio and Idra rank.
|
Yeah you have to give credit to Kyrix, he did play a good series (again).
He's known for aggression, but as we saw in game 2 he can also play a macro style very effectively. I don't think we've ever seen Kyrix play a ZvZ, have we? I think he should be too good for TheWind, but anything can happen in a ZvZ bo3...
|
IMO BoxeRs play had too much passivity, maybe it's because of getting all those thors, but yeah I think he shoulda been able to really punish that third earlier. That's the problem I have when going thors in tvz, after they mass enough roach/muta + shit it is hard to stop. But then again I'm a noob who just likes to theorycraft when his favourite player loses.
Still he even made that a game with his ultimate harass abilities. Really delightful to watch. Surely going deep in the GSL again.

Chinese commentator called the banshees "Avatars" referring to the gunships in the movie. Boxer is referred to as Brother Bao. Zerg is called the "Bug Race", zerglings "puppies/little dogs"

TBH I feel vikings are better to harass zerg than banshees. 4-5 vikings can totally screw the zergs supply, and also they are helpful in fighting off mutalisks along with marine support. Plus they cost lower gas as well.

He could risk to go out and attack, but that would be an all in, because mutas can come back and just kill all SCVs,
I though he defended well, even expanded and killed Kyrix's expo. May be he should have continued turtling, but Kyrix was far ahead, may be he was feeling the pressure.

No, they aren't good vs zerg.

I feel the same way. Thors are great on Lost temple for drops etc, and for stopping muta harass. But once zerg gets enough roaches/muta they just seem useless. I wonder if we will see couple ghosts to just stop the muta harass again. They are good to snipe banelings aswell.

Obviously I'm comparing Kyrix to world class SC2 players and not myself when I say that he's awful and obviously "awful" is an exaggeration. I just think he's a fairly mediocre semi-pro who is currently being propped up by the state of ZvT and will fall off the map when 1 and 2 base all in'ing every game stops working against competent Terran players (and yes I know he managed to get off 2 base this game and won a somewhat macro game but he was completely unprepared for the banshees and would have lost then if Boxer had just killed queens and drones instead of the spire).

On the contrary, I liked Kyrix's games. Watch what Nestea and TheWind had to offer. NesTea was awful against Genius, I felt. Well, at least for a winner of GSL2 he was awful, really terrible games.
TheWind wasn't too bad, but he was not as good as Kyrix, IMO.

He wasn't unprepared for the banshees, he held them off with queens until his mutas popped. Sure he could have microd his queens better, but that's splitting hairs. I think it's refreshing to see an aggressive Zerg player. I'm tired of watching games where the Zerg just hold off attacks until they get a max'ed army. Being aggressive while expanding is not all-ining, I'm sorry.

I think kyrix and Foxer represents the new generation, and they are the same type of players.
Super aggressive, addiction to one certain unit (banelings vs. marines), good split second decision making.
No one seems to give enough credit to their macro, since it's always the endless attacks that get the attention, but I think their macro is actually really solid. Hence why they can keep making streams of units and overrun their opponents.
Of the two, foxer seems to have superior micro, but I'd say kyrix have better macro, with his good expansion timing.
I would LOVE to see both of them duking it out in the final. Due to their super aggressive styles they tend to produce great games in their encounters. Their G5 in GSL is actually the only game that deserved the 5stars.
Although I would still want ssks to make it through, but I want to see some super intense games.
BUT, PLEASE SOMEONE, KILL THAT FREAKING THEWIND GUY, HE"S TERRIBLE.
Oh, final props to kyrix, I think in his dictionary, "defence" never existed, it's replaced by "counter attack". Damn I love him.

Lol that last game wasn't an all in. He was actually on the brink of death that game (his spire went down), but pulled through with macro to win it.
Id also like to state that going all in with the roaches like that on Metalopolis, was a sound decision. Boxer had invested a lot of money in to his hellions, so he didn't have a particularly strong army. He had a good army for harass but not one to stop push.

Too bad that TheWind seems to be the better ZvZ player. I'd love to see a Foxer vs Kyrix rematch.

I want sSKS to win the tourney, but I'd rather watch another Foxer/Kyrix match, that was the most entertaining series in the history of SC2 so far.

Agreed, he was a little unprepared for banshees tho. However, boxer played a mind game with that 2 rax opening, he even did have some pretty good overlord scouting, but with boxer's building positions he was unable to scout the starports. No one can really blame him with that.
Also, for game one his decision to counter attack won him the game. It's so pleasant to see someone that has "attack" flowing in his vines. Comparing to TheWind who never seems to be able to make up his mind, kyrix is so much more entertaining to watch.

I guess Nestea and Fruit have to be considered the two best Zergs at the moment.
In the second tier I would put Kyrix, Zenio and maybe Check.
In the next tier I would put Idra/TheWind and then there are a whole lot of players who may or may not prove themselves in GSL3, namely Ret/Sen/Moon/July/Leenock etc

Count how many games he played last season where he would expand, make a handful of drones and then just pump nothing but lings, banelings and roaches and try to kill his 2 base opponent. Of course that's all-in because if you don't at least cause severe damage you're way behind and lose.
It's not even particularly impressive aggression that he does. When Foxer was splitting his marines with incredible micro, how often did you see Kyrix splitting his banelings? And yesterday against Ensnare he was just throwing banelings away, wasting 5 at a time killing empty bunkers and shit.
He doesn't play a defensive macro game because his mechanics are garbage, just keep an eye on his resource count, even when he has barely any drones (which is almost always) his minerals skyrocket.
Apart from having a fairly unique and aggressive style (which is facilitated by the current balance of the game) I don't see anything he does well compared to the best Zergs out there. I'm not a fan of Idra's ultra defensive, pure macro style of play but then I don't like Kyrix's style of spamming the z and b keys and right clicking on his opponent's base either. Long term, for the good of the game, I'd like to think somewhere in between the 2 will yield the best results and guys like Kyrix will be left behind.

Of course Genius could kill the buildings. He had blink stalkers and stalkers run faster than DTs. For me it was BM from Tester and Genius was dumb to let it go.

The reason he agreed to a draw (we assume) is because he didn't know how many DTs were out there. If there were say 4 DTs, then it's a huge risk to move his Stalkers to attack. Even if he left say 3 Stalkers to defend and attack with the others, Tester could run 4 DTs in and snipe the Cannon, thus winning the game. Yes, Tester actually only had 2 DTs but Genius didn't know that, and had no way of finding out without risking losing the game. In this case, he probably felt that accepting the draw was his only choice.
And I hate to quote myself, but this is the reasoning I posted earlier in the thread:
You're forgetting that Protoss buildings regenerate shields. It's not like Genius could just chip away at the buildings slowly, because the DTs will come to chase him, meaning he has to run away, and then the shields on the buildings regenerate some more etc. It would be impossible to kill the buildings without bringing at least 3-4 Stalkers imo, and it would be too risky to leave only 2-3 behind to defend considering that he didn't know how many DTs were out there.
Hope this helps to explain.

Tester could have just held positioned those DT's at the base of his ramp at sat there 'till Genius left. The draw was justified imo because not only was it legitimately a stalemate but Genius didn't know how many DT's Tester had.

How many stalkers did he have though, like 4? He would have to be extremely careful with them and very very slowly kill the buildings while kiting DT's that he can't see. One misstep would cost him the game. Not to mention the game would probably go on forever to finish off tester's base. He probably didnt want to take any chances and decided to take the draw.
|
i'm pretty sure he had like 8 blink stalker vs 2 dts? he could've sent 4 to just shoot down all the buiildings, but he didn't risk it, the judges should've told him to either try and split his army or its draw

7. More than enough to both defend and attack with. The question is, if he knew exactly how many DT's he was actually fighting. If he was under the impression that 3 DT's could pop at his cannon any second, his defense is totally justified.

actually... i think he should've blocked the damn cannon with 3 stalkers... he could;ve just used 1 stalker to shoot down building, rest defend then the judges might of saw it differently

I found it very suspicious that they went the same build as each other in every game. Game 1 both 4 gate, game 2 both fast colossi, game 3 both blink stalker. It's like they talked about it before hand and decided not to use their newer or more creative builds, at least I hope.

And here's the second part He doesn't know how many DTs Tester has So scout the map with 1 Stalker? He knows it's a low number. He was in Testers base and there was only 1 attacking him. And he can see there's only 1 DT attacking his own base. So if Tester has more then he's hiding them (which would be unlikely). Leave 6 stalkers initally blocking the cannon while 1 scouts the map and kills buildings.

Hmm it looks like Nestea may be the more solid zerg than Fruitdealer. Cool kept trying his fast 3rd with no lair or any tech way into mid-game and dying. He skimped too much on defenses vs the aggressive Foxer again.
What I don't get is why zergs don't just pull a Kwanro whenever they scout Foxer doing his 2rax marine rush. They keep throwing low amounts of slow-lings into Foxer's marine micro. It's probably better to get gas, make a bunch of speedlings and Kwanroll Foxer while he's retreating to set up his CC.
Tester vs Genius was pretty close. I can see why Genius regards him highly even though he failed to qualify twice. I lol'ed at how the two absolute top Protosses went 4gate vs each other in the first game.
Kyrix is apparently on his way to becoming a monster. First he perfects lings/banelings, now he's moving on to roaches, and so on... Love this guy.

Genius deserved the third game more than Tester.

do you not realize protoss doesn't have many viable builds? they both probably decided which builds would be strongest for each map, and both being skilled protoss players came up with similar builds.

I honestly think Boxer could have won against Kyrix if he had better decision making.
There was a huge timing with the hellion after he fended off the baneling bust. He hesitated for a full half a minute before doing anything. If he was worried that Kyrix may be hiding another baneling group, he should have split his 9 hellions, send 2 to scout the surrounding and 6 to harass. If he was worried about a roach switch, he should have switched to marauder right after pumping 9 hellions out. If he had two bunkers worth of marauders at his nat and teched to banshee faster, he wouldn't have lost like that.
In the second game, Kyrix made the big mistake of having only two queens, one in each base, and not react after seeing the banshees. That was an auto loss right there. Foxer won against Kyrix with the exact same build, there was no excuse for Boxer to have harassed so ineffectively, killing almost no drones and only queens and losing his first two banshees due to poor micro. He had 4 bunkers to defend against that roach push, he didn't need to park 2 banshees at his choke for a full minute. Even if he felt the need to do so, why not just use one banshee to ATTACK that roach army instead? And send the other banshee to harass the main. Wasn't the point of those two barracks and 4 bunkers delaying the roach army till the banshees have essentially killed all the drones and spire? After that, doesn't matter what the Roaches are killing. Boxer can just lift the buildings and kill all the roaches with the banshees.
God, for the first time in my life, I must say that I am disappointed with Boxer. He did incorporate some boxer-esque play with the building placements, the sexy dropship usages. But everything that he did seemed to have missed some sort of timing window. He was always 15 seconds late on everything.
I blame Boxer's poor performance on his lack of a team. He is basically training off only laddering.

I think the Genius vs Tester match just goes to show how ridiculously even these two are. I am a Tester fan myself but play more to Genius' style of somewhat safe somewhat boring. Genius and MC both knew that Tester was the only competition in terms of naming the top Protoss in the world even though he did not qualify twice. Man I don't understand how people can say he's garbage (close enough), he didn't even qualify twice in a row. By the results he's shown in this tournament he's STILL a RO 8 GSL player, his skill hasn't diminished, he's just been incredibly unlucky. If this tournament has told us anything it's that TesteR deserves to be in the GSL as he's beating really solid opposition CONVINCINGLY. I Just hope that TesteR can sit down and actually focus on the holes in his build, though it is demotivating when Protoss is somewhat underpowered at the moment but that shouldn't stop him from outplaying his opponents. I think he should revert to a more safe playstyle because he is mechanically as good as anyone but chooses to go off into these super risky builds which is why he probably never qualified this GSL. Ahhh TesteR, when your at your best, I can't see you losing to anyone. But it's so rare people actually think you're overrated. Damn, I sure as heck hope you win this thing man. Protoss and more importantly YOU need this. Good Luck.

The point of tournament threads is not only to provide a place for live discussion, but to record results for posterity. The next day, the next week, or even a year from now when somebody wants to find out the results of these matches, this thread will come up first on the list, and its OP should give them everything they need so they have to slog through often 50-200+ pages of crap. This is the hallmark of a good OP, and most TL tournament threads are like this.
If this particular OP hadn't made his post, one of thousands of others in the community would have. There is a tradition on TL where the first thread about a tourney becomes the official discussion thread, but the expectation is that the OP's job is to then make quality updates. The fact of the matter is this OP sniped the creation of this thread hours before the event started but clearly had no intention to update it. The only explanation is that he just wants to seek attention for himself to be "the guy who made the thread." If he's not going to do a proper update, then he should leave it to one of many other willing fans in the community.

Obviously he is one of the top players right now. He qualified for everything, where is NaDa with his 500 APM? (no offence to NaDa, game is pretty crazy atm!)
There is no distinct best player in StarCraft 2 right now, they all developing, they have to develop because there is so many good players.
Anyway entertaining value is amazing!!! And Kyrix is pretty monstrous, you have to really be cool to hold off his pressure and be able to expand as BoxeR did.

The point here, is that this guy made a thread, that was made solely to help people find a re-stream, and let people know the event was going to happen. That purpose was met. Just because you think that things should be added to the OP, doesn't mean that the threads original intended purpose was not met.
What if someone else HAD made the thread? What if it had results but no re-stream to find the games and watch them? There's no way to know what would have happened.

You highly underestimate the TL community. Do you actually believe there would be a scenario where out of thousands of fans of this site, nobody would post restream info?
I think you fail to understand that TL is a community, not just some random forums like Blizzard's SC2 forums. Standards for posting aren't imaginary rules. Browse through the Closed Threads section and see many such tourney threads with shitty OPs that were disposed by the admins. This one managed to get away, but if this event were an important GSL/OSL/MSL event, you can be sure that you'd have hundreds of people shitting all over him in a heartbeat!
|
If someone can make a post that doesn't have results, it doesn't also seem reasonable for someone to make a post without streams? You're asking for information to be added to the original post, not for other people to update it later in the thread.
You even admit that you're shitting on the OP... Literally flaming him now... Because he forgot to update the thread with results. And then you state that everyone should be flaming him because he forgot to update with results.....
For all you know the poor original poster if dead, and you're flaming a dead man for not posting updates.
I really have to say it again: Feel entitled much?

|
the rule that OP should update the post is stupid.
OP posts because no one else made the post, so everyone can discuss a match before hand.
Many times, I want to hype a match, but there's no thread started, so I have to shut my enthusiasm. I thank whoever makes the thread, updated or not.
If someone else want to update, he/she is free to make his/her own posts, and make it early enough so 1) others shouldn't have to make another one and 2) so that people can discuss the posts asap.
|
People should dedicate a couple of trusted Moderators who has the responsibility to update their original post.
For normal users, don't expect anyone of us to update ours.
Trusted mods who fail to post the thread early enough, are free to make a new thread, who's stopping you.

The TL StarCraft 2 Tournament forum is moderated and the admins would never allow what you propose to happen for the following reasons::
1) If everybody is allowed to make a new thread every time they felt like it, the forums would be filled with multiple threads on the same topic. The result would be garbage, like Blizzard's forums. The strength of the TL SC2 Tournament forum is that each tournament has a consolidated thread for easy access to information.
2) Given that the admins only allow one post per tournament event to exist, telling people to post earlier and earlier and earlier is a slippery slope. Do you really want to force people who want to make quality threads to have to play the sniping game? It would get to the point where the minute after GSL RO64 Day1 ends you'd have to make the Day 2 thread or risk having some shitty poster snipe it.
Better to have it the way it is now: Make a thread if you think you can at least give it the default quality (match results, link to live stream and vods/replays if they exist), and if you're too lazy then leave it to somebody else. Nobody is telling you to go hog-wild with pictures, star ratings, and interviews (though the best posts do, and they are a treat), but at least do the bare minimum. There are tons of people in the community who will gladly do it, as is demonstrated every day.

No, that one was deleted because the poster had a history of making shitty OPs for tournament events and people caught on and got sick of him ruining it for everyone. Hence my original post telling this thread's OP to post better threads in the future or leave it to somebody else.
Also, most OPs here usually get made because nobody else made it yet. But sniping the creation hours earlier than everybody just to get your name on the first post is lame as hell.

I understand what you're saying. I still fully disagree. There are lots of solution for not having the thread in time. Normal users who don't see any "quality" thread started should be able to start one without being expected to update. An example of solution is to have a certain time limit. There are times the game has started, but still, no thread in sight, and everyone else is too afraid to get flamed if they start a not-to-be-updated one.
Anyway, I'm one of those who think the Mods are abusing their power and I'm also not interested in this conversation. Later.

You don't want mods to have power, yet you want to give them more power by making them enforce time limits and shit. Ok.

Foxer got this. The games that he lost to Kyrix were to baneling busts. Surely he learned his lesson.

He had that game won all he has to do is micro his stalkers. Crazy. Yea but tester is not obligated to attack either. They can just sit there forever because Genius cant really kill testers buildings either. I think the draw in that scenario is justified. Of course Genius could kill the buildings. He had blink stalkers and stalkers run faster than DTs. For me it was BM from Tester and Genius was dumb to let it go.
I disagree. Genius does not know how many DTs tester really has. If he moves out and tester kills that cannon then its over. hes not no way to detect.
