I think I've heard of that guy.
Imagine the next MLG events will be bigger than the 32 they opened with here. The fact that it sold out so fast shows good things - if the event is well attended and watched by a large number of people, it'll only grow.
It's the only way to help with these things - viewer figures are more solid than forums saying it's going to be big. Just make sure you tune in to watch :D

Guys If you purchased one of the original 32 passes PLEASE check your email and respond! Thank you

to be honest, you missed quite a few.
so SjoW is coming from Sweden? Very nice

JP, shouldn't you update the OP ?

I hope some MLG reps can give some info about spectating.
I read http://www.mlgpro.com/forum/showthread.php?t=295733 but it seems to only be talking about console gaming (halo) and is not updated for starcraft which is completely reasonable considering it's never been in an event before ^^
I've been looking all over the MLG site and the various threads here on teamliquid but I can't seem to find any info on spectating. So here are my questions.
Obviously some (if not all) of the games will be casted online but what about at the venue itself?
How will live spectators be watching the SC2 matches?
Will they only have a chance to see the semi-finals and up or can my friends watch every single game i play?
Also, if i do bring a friend, will they be allowed to be around while we are warming up and stuff? I would hate to bring a friend and then find out that they will have to wander around the event by themselves since i'm going to be playing.
edit: also, are cameras allowed?
Hopefully someone will be able to answer these questions so I can convince some people to buy live passes
Thanks!

Backpack, I've been to a few MLG events before, so assuming this works like Halo somewhat (bearing in mind things could work differently for SC2), I can probably answer a few of your questions.
Obviously some (if not all) of the games will be casted online but what about at the venue itself?
I would assume that the only games which will be casted will be ones happening on the SC2 'main stage'. That's how it works for Halo - only the main stage is setup for broadcasting/streaming/etc.
How will live spectators be watching the SC2 matches?
Depending on the match, either standing behind a player watching their screen directly (typically the players are roped off from the spectators behind them, though) *or* on some overhead plasma displays *or* (for the main stage, possibly) projected onto a screen.
Will they only have a chance to see the semi-finals and up or can my friends watch every single game i play?
Since all of the playing areas (aside from warm-up stations, possibly) are setup to accommodate spectators, your friends should be able to catch all your matches.
Also, if i do bring a friend, will they be allowed to be around while we are warming up and stuff? I would hate to bring a friend and then find out that they will have to wander around the event by themselves since i'm going to be playing.
No idea. Even if they do end up having to wander because you're in a warm up area (assuming they're separate from the actual playing area and assuming it's players-only), it's still not necessarily a bad thing -- there are a ton of other things to do: other games to watch, free hot pockets/dr pepper/stride gum and such to load up on, free play stations, spectator FFA tournaments, etc.
edit: also, are cameras allowed?
I've brought cameras to every event since 2008.
Hopefully someone will be able to answer these questions so I can convince some people to buy live passes Thanks!
MLG Pro Circuit events are a lot of fun, man. This one, being MLG's 50th, is shaping up to be its largest ever. If ever there was an event to have your friends come and hang out at with you, this'd be the one. That and the fact that spectator pass $$$ goes right back into making MLG SC2 better.
Anyway, hope that helps.

Thanks Delo, it certainly does make me more optimistic about bringing people along.
Though i would still like some more official info since nobody has been to a SC2 event before
I also have another question though. Do players get free spectator passes? Since SC2 is only the first 2 days will we be able to attend sunday as well, or if we get knocked out the first day can we come the next 2 days?
Thanks again!

Heh...neither has MLG! :-) They're likely playing this one by ear since this is the first SC2 tournament and will be taking copious notes on what's working, what's not, etc. That said, I'm guessing most of the general MLG event stuff applies, thus my response.
As for players getting spectator passes, my understanding is that your player pass doubles as a spectator pass. I'm 99.9% sure you don't have to get a spectator pass on top of your player pass. Put simply: you should have access to the whole event regardless of your placing or whatnot.
I would add that you should totally attend all 3 days. You'll meet tons of cool people from different competitive communities and, possibly, find yourself cheering players/teams in games you previously didn't follow closely. And the same will likely happen for SC2. There'll be thousands of folks from other communities wanting to learn more about competitive SC, which is pretty cool.

Is this 100% confirmed for the next MLG (DC) event as well? I live and Maryland and would be so stoked to see someone like qxc play for free.

You won't be able to attend the event for free, though - spectator passes are $25 (which gives you access for all 3 days).

TeamLiquid isn't in that top links bar, I notice
Anyway, I hope to see some great SC2 action in DC.

If halo can be sponsored by mlg, then SCBW or SC2 would certainly fit there too!
