Hi, I'm a complete noob, and at the moment I don't use any buildorders, I just kinda play every game by ear.
I'm looking for one macro-oriented build order for each matchup, that I can follow in the opening phases of the game, and that hopefully keeps me safe from most cheeses and doesn't have me entering the midgame too far behind. I'd prefer a robo build over a stargate build, if possible.
There's a lot of stuff written about buildorders of course, but I worry that it might be outdated or similar. If you could link me to a good article that would be appreciated.
Protoss can be a tricky race to start with in terms of ironing out your macro - its difficult to find a single opener that will be optimal for every matchup because of how vastly different your matchups are.
If you really are a complete newbie like you say, then it doesn't really matter which build you pick.
Its a 2gate -> nexus -> robo build, it will be safe against pretty much anything and will give you breathing room to learn your fundamentals. Don't get too caught up in the timings or worrying that things will be outdated.
PiG has a little video about it there as well, and as you improve you can start to variate your build where it matters for each matchup

I'm aware, I'm saying if you are a complete newbie (it would be better if you provided more information) and playing protoss, it's better to just have one easy 'macro' build to focus on. Varying your build between the matchups isn't going to give you any edge at that level, and honestly is likely to hinder you.
There are no advanced or matchup-specific protoss builds that are just sit back and practice your macro, they all involve executing opening pressure to set up a 3rd base.
You can play whatever builds you like for practice, though. There is no right or wrong way.
Well, more information. I want to play Starcraft II mostly because I really like watching the pros play, although I can't quite appreciate their skill as much as someone who knows the game well.
I bought the game when it came out, played the campaign and against the AI a bit, then uninstalled it.
I've tried playing it a couple of times in since LoTV came out, mostly I've played against the AI and also a few games on ladder, where I got to platinum sometime last year before untinstalling the game. I've now reinstalled, and play a bit on laddder and a bit against the AI.
Were I to describe myself, I'd say I'm okay at macro (for my league, obv) and am mostly on top of my probe production, but am really terrible at transistioning out of just gateway units, and in particular I'm bad at harass and using spellcasters. Is this the sort of info you were looking for?
I'm hoping following buildorders can give a bit more structure to my play, and give me a sense of timings and when to expand, transistion etc. Also, just being able to follow a build order itself is a handy skill I think :p
Here is a bit outdated one, but just remove the MSC from the build order and everything else aligns nicely:
When you hit Diamond I suggest getting more build orders which are match-up specific, but up till there you can go with this one and it is a quite solid macro build order, and you can add your own transitions (or go all-in if you just add more gates).

Is there a good resource to find out what builds are popular. I've basically not played any LotV at all previously (I bought it when it came out, but I kinda cbf learning all new stuff back then, so I just started playing other games).
I managed to get to Plat 1 in my placements (is this the bottom or top of Plat, I'm assuming the former?) by just doing WoL builds (PvZ immortal sentry push still seems kinda great ), but I honestly have NFI what I'm doing yet .

What bulya said. On that allthingsprotoss reddit page, in the sidebar is the Build of the Week archive, where many pro builds are broken down and analyzed by Gemini, one of our resident GM community contributors. Is a fantastic resource, I highly recommend utilizing it. Plat1 is generally the sweet spot where you understand the concepts of macro and are able to follow a build order pretty well with some practice, youre perfectly set to start improving. Good luck!
Thanks a ton guys. I tried a really safe 2-gate + robo into expand build last night and completely annihilated a couple of Terrans, which felt very nice. My hands were tired after though, apparently I'm shockingly out of shape, lol.
