Why Does this Person have 500 apm?

Looking at the replay and this persons history there is no way they can have 500apm. Yet after reviewing his/her match history, they have the 400-500apm every game.

If you look at the keystrokes, the spam is not enough to maintain that APM. Is this a hack or am I confused.

As far as I know very big apm is not really that big of a deal due to the fact that there are only certain proper clicks that need to be clicked in order to make a command. That being said, what happens is that instead of clicking F,F to select larva and build drone, the players start to press F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F while out of supply, the same applies when there is not enough money to build a building and also when someone is issuing a direction to move, the player is clicking right mouse button 10-50 times instead of just 1 so that the army would move a little forward. another example, when player has little to do he just switches between locations using fast travel option getting something like F1, F2,F3,F2,F1,F2,F3, F2,F1,F2,or T,G,T,H,Y,N,B,G,T,Y,H,N,G,B,N on occasional basis.

So, you can build a drone with F,F or with F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F,F.

Is that enough to get 500apm, I dont know.

Besides, do mouse clicks add to apm or not ?

Heromarine showed on stream how this can be easily achieved. I don't remember exactly, but I think he bound the left mouse-key to a keyboard-key. He than started a custom game which he exited after 1 min. He basicly only "clicked" on the mineral patches using the custom key. It resulted in 1000+ apm. He said it can be useful for fast creep spread, ghost snipe and so on - mostly it is just spamming.

APM doesn't tell anything. You can hold 2 keys, and if your keyboard settings are fine for that it will give you around 500 or more APM (depends on the keyboard).

APM is not really a tell for anything, so don't look at it.

I noticed with the APM display on you could get thousands of APM from just spam clicking with a lot of units selected

if you have RapidFire on Attack or Patrol, you can hold that down to make:
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

it will issue Attack/Patrol then select target on pointer, and so on as long as you hold key. With that it's easy to reach 1000+ APMs:

I got the habbit of holding down Attack command like that, which is a bit bad: you can easily kill your own stuff if the pointer in on your units or buildings. In case you do that, it may be better to use patrol

Pros that have lots of APMs are having a good portion of them that are meaningful camera jump, unit box micro, spell caster perfect spell landing, multiprong attacks on top of world class macro. But worker compulsive boxing or similar is just to keep fingers warm, and train boxing precision… more generally pointer precision

this Protoss guy seems to have an early game approach with nexus and 3-4 probe in control groups
he is changing selection super fast which brings loads of APMs (600+)

not sure what he is doing with his 4 single probe groups:
– one is to go set up proxy stargate at some point
– the 3 others, I'm under the impression he tries to find probe with return cargo, or going back to mining to build the next building to optimize early game mining (not sure)

More or less, some players know their capabilities and try to optimize early game at max. At master every detail matters and macro tends to be perfect: small advantage in early game can snowball in mid-game. As a comparison I tend to be lazzy early game :D I guess that as soon as you start trying optimize the next digits of your early game macro to tend more to 0.9999~=1 perfect macro you get some benefits in micro capabilities that scales for mid and late game
